I took my grandmothers 1960s Bulova watch in for a cleaning and tune up because it had stopped running. I left it with Mr. Swift for about a week and when he returned it, I noticed right away that the watch had a different face. The face said«croton»(an entirely different brand). He lied and told me that bulova bought croton, so the word«croton» was underneath bulova all along. He said it was unearthed when he cleaned the watch and the only reason the rest looked different was because it was clean. I took the watch home and did some research online, bulova never bought croton, in fact both are still operating today. I eventually found a photo of myself wearing the watch and easily confirmed it was a completely different face. Next, I opened the back and discovered that it wasn’t just a different face, Mr. Swift had replaced the entire bulova movement with a croton movement, so essentially I got a completely different watch back. He charged $ 125 for this. I asked a friend who knows about watches to help, and he got Mr. Swift to admit the face is different but he would not budge about the rest. This time… he told me that he accidentally ruined the bulova face while cleaning and acted like he did me a favor by replacing it. He never offered a refund. It is EXTREMELY hard to believe that my grandmother at one point would have replaced the entire inside of the watch but kept the bulova face, and then Charlie just happened to have the exact corresponding croton face after ruining the original bulova. Especially hard considering his initial lie to me. I have since taken the watch to another repair shop in Camden and they confirmed everything I suspected. They also told me it wasn’t even running properly. So after all that, the movement he stuck me with is broken.
