For funky clothes, accessories, or cover ups, it’s a great gem of a store. Prices are very reasonable for the uniqueness. Found a great seahorse scarf for $ 9. Near me in Florida it would’ve been $ 25 on clearance. Bought a $ 12 dress made in Nepal. Again– near me I would’ve paid triple on a sale rack. Very worth stopping in.

I was shocked after reading the last and only review and have to counter it with my feelings about Maces. I grew up in the area and have been stopping in here for years. And I’ve never been treated unkindly by any of the staff here. Maces is a hidden oasis in the mid coast area and by that i mean it is one of few stores that does not overprice their products. I come in to buy pashmina and silk scarves for four or seven dollars as opposed to twenty plus anywhere else or jewelry for a very reasonable price. For my mother and her friend visiting from Boston, it is always one of their first shopping stops!

The window display is inviting and the clothes look good on the hangers – flowey, far-east-inspired fashion with lots of sundresses and casual skirts with pretty patterns. I grabbed a few items and because the store was crowded I didn’t want to shove past other customers searching for the dressing room, so I politely inquired, «Where do you try things on?» The two older women behind the counter looked entirely annoyed that a customer was interrupting their conversation about how annoying people on cell phones are. They looked at me and said, very rudely, «Right back there where the sign is.» I replied, «I suppose the sign you’re talking about is behind that column and that giant basket»(since the sign was not visible) and they just gave me a snide look so I walked away and then heard one of them say, «Whatever,» in an exasperated tone. Really? This is how you talk to a customer asking maybe what you consider a dumb question, but being very polite? When I got past the many obstacles between me and the sign I noticed that the sign was very small and partially covered up by a display. So I tried on the dresses, all of which were completely unflattering. I have a small frame, but some curves and every dress made my figure look like I was cinched in a patterned sack. Normally I would have put each item back where I found it but because the women running the store were so blatantly rude I left all of my unwanted items in the dressing room and hightailed it out of there. I do not recommend this store for a fulfilling shopping experience!
