Important note about The Berry Patch location: The Berry Patch is no longer at the above listed Rockingham address. Due to the road construction project currently underway, the world’s largest strawberry was loaded onto a trailer and relocated north to the 351 Cargo Road address in Ellerbe NC. I wanted to make sure you could find The Berry Patch because… OMG what great homemade ice cream! Seriously folks, it’s as good an ice cream as I have ever enjoyed anywhere at any cost! Ice cream good enough to have driven an hour on a Sunday afternoon just to go get. True story, we’ve done this before. Also, The Berry Patch is a great rest stop going to or from Myrtle Beach on Highway 220, and a very slight detour from Highway 74 in Rockingham. Clean rest rooms, and then select some produce to take home if you wish. Then over to the huge berry for your ice cream. My personal faves here are: 1. Cookies & Cream 2. Peach 3. And –as boring as it may sound– Vanilla. Whatever flavor you may decide on, make sure to get it on a fresh made waffle cone. It’s a very slight additional cost, but well worth it. One warning — read the menu board very carefully when deciding on your flavor. Only the flavors at the top are the homemade flavors. The additional flavors listed lower are just regular commercial Pet ice cream that can be bought anywhere. You will cheat yourself if you select one of those flavors. One other word of caution — while on Highway 220 in the vicinity of the Berry Patch, watch the speed limit very, very closely. The construction area there currently is undoubtedly one of the highest enforced areas by the State Highway Patrol anywhere in North Carolina. I never pass by here without having seen at least two troopers between the Berry Patch and Rockingham. Enjoy your ice cream, it’s the greatest!

Not only does The Berry Patch have the world’s largest strawberry, it also has some of the world’s best homemade ice cream, shakes, and other deserts. It is outstanding! That’s why thousands and thousands of travelers have figured out that you will not find any better place to stop for a treat and a break on your road trip. Plus, the produce, jams, jellies and other items are always the freshest anywhere around. And the staff? The best and friendliest you could ask for. World’s largest strawberry and world’s best ice cream, all served up with small town charm.

What’s not to love about a building that looks just like a big, juicy strawberry? Well the ice cream even tops that! The berry patch serves homemade ice cream, and they are open during all seasons. During the warmer seasons they always offer fresh vegetables and a variety of jellies, etc. The rest rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. There are picnic tables to sit at while enjoying your delicious ice cream. Definitely a great pit stop while traveling on 220.

Never too cold for good ice cream! Bought some local veggies(hope that they were local). A lot of stands that we stop at look like the produce is from the grocery stores. Clean, organized & the staff was just as nice as they could be. The 2 young fellows were very pleasant & funny.

We stop here on the way to and from vacation 2 times a year for fresh fruit and ice cream. Not cheap, but that’s because the quality is excellent. You get what you pay for. Get the peaches and a milkshake, you won’t be disappointed.

My first stop after landing in North Carolina was the World’s Largest Strawberry at the Berry Patch in Ellerbe, NC. A small family owned business with a strawberry farm down the street, they specialize in produce and YUMMY homemade ice cream. You could have basically any kind you wanted but I opted for a scoop of peach and a scoop of strawberry. I LOVED the peach ice cream.

This place has some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. Peach, Banana and Strawberry are my favorites. Produce is reasonably priced. This place moved to exit 8 earlier this year. Much bigger parking lot now. Make sure you get the ice cream in a waffle cone(only 50cent more).
