Interesting that there are pictures and no reviews yet. Well, you’d think it’d be easy to get Filipino groceries when you live near downtown Chicago, but it’s surprisingly impossible. You have to head far up north or to the suburbs if you want something besides basics that apply across all Asian cuisines. Now, should you come all the way to Rockford just to get some groceries? Of course not, but since I come up here a fair amount of times during the year it was very refreshing to find a good Filipino grocery store here. They don’t sell any cooked or prepared food like you may expect, but they certainly sell enough stuff for you to make your own. Whether it’s marinated milkfish, tamarind soup base, salted shrimp fry, or mung bean soup, they got you covered. That is, bangus, sinigang, bagoong, or mongo. It’s a very no-frills kind of shop, but they’ve got most of the basics covered. Fear not northern Illinois bound Filipino, P2OS has got you covered.
