This past March two of my friends and I took a much needed break from the snow at the first iteration of Hostile Hostel in PR. Quick summary: Parties, new BFFLs, great surf, great people. The people were so great that when we heard that Laura was moving Hostile Hostel to Rockaway, I booked a room for the grand opening(Early May). After exchanging some hugs with Laura and Brady(he owns the Rockaway Beach Surf Club – also HIGHLY recommended), Laura showed me around. The hostel is a series of über-cute beach bungalows that each have their own nice little theme. My girlfriend and I stayed in the«army men» themed bungalow, which had a bunk bed, a private room, and a loft. Each of the bungalows has something like this, except one of them also has a fairly large table — the natural congregation spot. The bungalows get a nice ocean breeze and the pop-in, pop-out style ensures you make some fast friends. Laura’s prices are super fair and even if she has no room, she will always make something happen for you(we didn’t make a reservation and hit the couches our first night in PR). Rockaway has some fun surf when it’s on and is still a sick place to hang out when it’s not. Come check it out this summer and tell your kids about how cool and edgy it was before they visit and it’s all glass and steel. I’m not going to make it back to Rockaway before November(but who knows?), but I know wherever the Hostile Hostel goes, I’ll definitely come visit.
