I have been going here for years. I moved out of state four years ago. My husband and I came home to visit and he needed seafood. My mom had called and spoke to a manager about a party of 15, she stated their would be no problem. The day of the dinner my mom called again to confirm the reservation, still everything was fine. When I got their I made a mistake and said party of 16, the manager was so rude. She stated she was told 15 not 16. I said, I’m sorry 15. They put us in the corner and had us at separate tables. Why would we want to do that?! We asked if we could but the tables together and the once again rude manager told is no. Then here is the waitress telling us what we had to do as far as seating. It made for a hard trip their. I will never go back again. I feel like they didn’t care about us, just that they wanted the money for a party of 15.

After having sea scallops for the first time last week at Fox’s in Maine and knowing that Windjammers is always busy, I made a reservation for 6:30 tonight. It’s a good thing I did, as there were many people waiting to be seated. I went with my husband, my aunt, and my two younger children, ages 7 and 6. The kids wanted sea scallops, which were not on the kids’ menu, so I ordered them the kids’ portion of haddock, more to trick them into trying a new fish and save some $$. I had the sea scallops and clam strip combo(shhhh… don’t tell the kids that what I had is what they thought they were having — but they loved it anyway!). Hubby had the haddock and scallops for a combo dinner. My aunt had the turkey dinner(odd at a seafood restaurant, but whatever floats your boat, I suppose!). Portions were very generous and the food was awesome. Everyone ate most of what they got, including some of that wonderful warm wheat bread! The wait staff were helpful and attentive. The only criticisms I have are that they need more than a one-holer for the ladies’ room, as when they are busy, this really takes a lot of time, and the décor could use a bit of upgrading. Their menu is very extensive, and it would seem that«Less is best.» The amount of food on the menu makes me wonder how much of it really is fresh and how much is bought ahead of time and then thawed for service. My meal was awesome and everyone else seemed equally happy. Prices were 18.99 here versus the $ 28+ that I paid for the same thing at Fox’s in Maine. Family friendly, with the kids’ menu on an activity page with crayons, which kept them and my aunt busy until the meal arrived which was not much later! I would definitely go back again.

First of all, I’m not a huge fish fan, until now. The coating on their fried Haddock is to die for. We are visiting from North Carolina and trying many seafood restaurants and this is by far the best fish I’ve ever eaten ANYWHERE! First time there they were crowded and it took the waitress a while to get to us but food came out super fast and was delicious. My wife and I recommend the Haddock, whole belly clams, and onion rings!!!

The best seafood in the Greater Rochester area. The fried seafood is excellent, not greasy and always cooked perfectly. All of the seafood is delicious. I can’t comment on the other items on the menu… I go to a seafood place for seafood. The service is good, although can be a little slow during busy times. Very friendly and courteous though. I keep coming back, and I’m never disappointed.

I ordered the chicken scampi. It was the worst scampi I have ever had in my life. It was loaded with basil and had a light red sauce on it which was very bland. I couldn’t eat it. Our waitress noticed after a while(she was super busy) and apologized and told me to order something else. My son had the haddock which he said was delicious. I ordered the fried haddock and it was delicious. It wasnt greasy and the fish was nice & moist. My husband even commented how the fried food looked«clean».(fresh grease) The fries were a little overcooked but I didn’t really want them any ways. The hostess came over and apologized as we were ready to leave. So I guess my dad was right, don’t order steak in a fish house and don’t order fish in a steak house. Because the Windjammer isnt an Italian restaurant, its ok because the fish was great and everyone in our party liked their food. I would go back, just not order the scampi.

I went there last Saturday afternoon. I ordered the seafood platter and my guest ordered the turkey dinner. The portions were good and the food was great. The service was quick and helpful. The area was clean even though it was busy. My guest had to bring home some of the food due to being full. I look forward to going back in the future for more seafood. In my opinion, this restaurant is better than Newick’s in Dover Point.

Living in New England, we have alot of Seafood restaurants in the area. However, I’ve never seen one with such a great balance of quality food and price. This may be the only seafood place I’ve seen with a 2 for $ 20 menu, and it didn’t feel cheap at all. I ordered the fried haddock, my fiancé order the haddock nuggets, and we split onion rings as an entrée. All of the food was very good, and I was pleasantly surprised that the portions filled us up quite nicely. We decided not to go with desert, but the options sounded quite delicious. I plan on going again and giving them a shot!

I have been in the food industry(legally) since I was 15. I am now a chef, and because of that I am hyper sensitive to what 1) good service and 2) good food should be like. Tonight I was offended more than I have EVER been in a public restaurant. Strike 1: we get greeted and the hostess tried sitting our party of 5 in a table that would normally sit 4. Then openly suggest we break fire code to make it work. Strike 2: We get greeted by our server after 10 minutes of sitting down.(This should have been all it took to move on the strike 3… but I was feeling nice.) Then after we got our food, Mine and my MIL’s lobster pies, had lobster shell all in it. so much we couldnt eat it AND the lobster itself was so over cooked I literally could not cut it with a steak knife. AND our table NEVER got cleaned. so I was having to put our app dishes and dinner dishes on a different table to make room for the new ones… Strike 3:(its a DOOZIE) I tell the waitress about the lobster pies(feedback is a MUST for any business to succeed) she shrugs. Asks us to pay. we give her our card… She leaves… a few minutes later I get up to use the restroom… and what do I see??? My Father in Law’s credit card on the FLOOR!!! I grabbed it, went back to the table and just waited to see how long she would take to come tell us she lost it. Never came. We tell the manager. He goes and takes care of it. She then(behind the managers back) comes back to our table and says«What… you dont expect to get this for zero do you? Give me your card.» never once apologized for dropping our card. Ladies and Gents… I about came out of my seat. I have NEVER been so angry at a wait staff in my life. I mean, I’m lucky I found my F.I.L’s card and not some crazy drugie… She then proceeded to talk down to me in a manner that got my cool headed husband pissed. . I have fired employees on spot for being slightly rude to my customers… this… this is completely unacceptable. Long story short… manager made it somewhat right. I still left a tip. My husband is my hero. I will never eat at Windjammers EVER again.

Bullet point review: –Restaurant catered for old people — senior menu and many customers that age –Pretty busy Saturday night — line waiting when we left –2 for $ 20 a good deal — Got onion rings, baked haddock, haddock nuggets, French fries, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and corn –Portions were fairly small, but the quantity for the price is acceptable –Wheat bread yummy and warm, had a similar one before –Waitress talked a little too fast when listing the sides –Relatively standard décor, fit the seafood theme — lighthouses, boats, etc. –Lots of large plants, some hanging from the ceiling –Onion rings crunchy and greasy –For a «signature» item the baked haddock was pretty standard, but good — tender, bread crusted, fairly greasy –Probably store bought mashed potatoes, had the EXACT type before. Corn also likely store bought. –Waitress the most unfriendly I’ve had in years — older woman, but she did check in often enough –Staff more males than most

I’ve been to many other seafood restaurants and windjammer is the best of the best. This place has very generous price for the portion of the food you get also very fresh and good foods. This place has a lot better seafoods than seafood restaurant in Cape Cod. Love their wheat bread(served as a complimentary). Love their clam chowder. Love their fried clams. Love their baked scallop. Love their fish&chips. .so many to love. .also friendly staffs.

Good place to sit down and eat in Rochester; the service is very good. It’s clean, and the staff was super friendly. There are a lot of fried options on their menu, which doesn’t interest me, but probably does for a lot of people. We did order the fried mushroom buttons for an appetizer, and the serving huge! It was enough for someone’s entire meal. Portion-control, people! A+++ for their yummy bread! I ordered their lobster roll, which was very tasty – but unfortunately for me, it was really small. But it did come with sides– I had a baked potato and corn(was just ok; probably straight from a can.)

The prices comparable to any seafood restaurant, but the food is amazing. If this is your first time at the restaurant, try the old salt and seafood combo(fried) and the clam chowder. Remember to take the menu at face value, no more, no less. For example, the combo mentioned above has salt in the name which is why it is a little more salty than normal fried seafood but it goes well with the combination of seafood that is included in the platter. I’ve read a few reviews that say the soup tastes like it came out of a can or ones that say the chowder is very bland. I have never experienced this with any of their soups. In fact, the chowder is superb. It has thick chunks of clams and potatoes and has both a great taste and leaves your mouth watering for more once you’ve finished eating your portion. I didn’t want to take a drink of my soda because I enjoyed the chowder so much I didn’t want the taste to leave my mouth. The entire staff here always goes out of their way to help you out, whether you are dining in or waiting for takeout. They don’t present an appearance of «this is my table and my tip, stay away,» but actually seem to genuinely get along and help each other to help the customers. Another thing I like about this restaurant is the fact that whenever I’m there, the manager(owner?) also makes her presence visible to the customers in a way that is not overbearing, but more of a «thank you for your patronage, we really do appreciate your business» attitude. it seems she makes herself known to not only help support the waitresses but to create a welcoming atmosphere for every customer. It’s not often that I have the money for seafood, but when I do I thoroughly enjoy it and look forward to it every month.

When driving form North Conway, NH to the Boston area on Memorial Day we got stuck in terrible traffic. Traffic so bad that we were sitting in the car picking fights out of sheer hunger. When we finally were able to get off the main road to drive through this town, we stopped at Windjammers. I was a little hesitant to try it, but since it had decent Unilocal reviews and I was not going to last much longer in the car, we gave it a shot. I ordered the french onion soup and one of the day’s specials(honey mustard salmon over a salad), and both were just okay. The soup tasted like it came from a can, and the salmon was pretty much just chunks of salmon with salad dressing on it, laid over a boring salad. But, there was easy parking, attentive service, and a clean bathroom. Oh, and the best part was – they brought out a mini loaf of bread – steamy warm – with butter on a little wooden cutting board. That definitely helped the hunger pangs. It was probably the best part of the meal.

I tried the Jolly roger, a signature sandwich. It was fantastic. Crispy Rye marbled toasted bread with crispy haddock, and home made slaw with a Russian dressing. I loved the texture and the taste. Very satisfying! The wait staff seemed like theyb loved their job and were very accommodating!

I prefer this over the the other seafood places in the area. The other reviews seem to point to a potential consistency issue. My visits have all been good! I love the Onion rings!

Was so excited to bring my husband here. I ordered the onion rings(which I tried when my sister ordered them), the sweet potato fries(they were divine the first time) and that fish sandwich with coleslaw, cheese on rye bread(which I took a bite of the last time I visited). ALL of it was dripping with grease so the temp. of the oil must have been wrong. Everything was overladen with oil and that is all you could taste. old oil. It was very busy and the staff were amazing as last time, but based on this visit, I don’t think we will be back. It was too expensive for a place that is inconsistent. Such as shame.

Good basic seafood. The fried scallops are almost on par with The Ferry Landing(best around). Clean booths and tables, fast service, reasonable prices. The older crowd fills this place early. You will have to wait in line at weekend meals. The same people own Granite Steak and Grill which is also good.
