Suprise flat tire… called aaa, who dispatched Virgils. From start of phone call to driving away with spare tire on 35 minutes! Awesome job Virgils :)

My car was towed here with a broken shifting cable. The tow truck driver told us that the place was dead and hasn’t been busy in a few days — that should’ve tipped me off. Within about 30 minutes of them having my car, Bruce called me with an estimate. He told me my shift cable was broken and would need to be replaced. He said the cable was $ 163, and with labor it would be $ 230. I told him to go ahead and replace it.
When I went to pick up the car the next day, the bill was $ 420. Bruce was out to lunch, but the guy there told me that the labor was $ 230, not the total. I told him that’s not what I was told, but he didn’t care. If I wanted my car, I had to choice but to pay the bill. I asked him how much $ 230 worth of labor was, and he said it was just over two hours. He said they charged $ 110 per hour.
If I would have known it was going to cost this much, I would’ve shopped around and found a better deal than $ 110 per hour. That is an outrageous amount to charge for mechanical labor. I’m very dissatisfied and would recommend people avoid Virgil’s in Rochester.

My car had crazy electrical problems constantly locking and unlocking having the alarm go off causing the battery to die. They came right away to pick up my car and kept me informed of what was going on. Very friendly and courteous staff. They fixed it within a few hours and even changed the oil gave me a new battery and the cost wasn’t bad at all! They are my new go to for car problem!

My car’s transmission was shifting oddly so I dropped it off for them to take a look at it. They said it needed a new or rebuilt transmission. Since it was an older car, I didn’t think I wanted to spend $ 2500 – 3000 they quoted.
Ended up taking it to Black’s automotive who fixed the problem for $ 250. The car ran fine for almost 3 years before I handed it down to a nephew.

Our 1985 VW Westfalia camper ground to a halt out on the freeway near Rochester on our first night of a 3 month roadtrip. Visons of it all ending before it had really begun passed through my brain. The tow truck dropped us at Virgil’s. 7am I got up and wandered into the shop. They said they’d get us in right away (they have seven bays at least) and we could go have breakfast a block down. After a terrific breakfast and a couple annoying visits I made to the brothers to pester them with questions and to see the car, then about a half hour into a tea at a coffee shop, they called and said it was ready. We had burned up a wheel bearing, which after some internet research can run from 150 $ to over a grand depending on what all is damaged. At 9am we rolled out of there, for only $ 188. They had found parts to fit, done the work, and we were on our way. I could not be any more pleased — terrific and honest and fast and reasonably priced service. Thank you gentlemen.

My bearing went bad 1 week after Virgil’s fixed it. Brought the car back… fixed under warranty for free!
I can’t recommend Virgil’s highly enough.

Stopped in for gas. Location is great right opposite St. Marys Hospital. The prices were a bit higher than the speedway just up the street, but it was fair enough.

I can only speak for the gas station/​mini mart aspect of it as I have never actually used their auto service. It is a pretty crappy, run down station and mini mart. The mini mart has a very limited selection. The attendant inside was really nice though. I will never be coming here again because I am quite fond of the Kwik Trip at Civic Center Dr & 11^th Ave NW and both of these are equal distance, so might as well go to the one that is well kept and offers a better selection.

I stopped here for gas.
Although the staff just sat outside smoking and stared as we fueled up, this at a gas station of all things, they were courteous as we paid. Not quite as cheap gas as the SuperAmerica down the road.
