First time in got a fresh cut and neck shave by Drew. She took her time and payed attention to detail which most barbers don’t. Really happy with my visit and look forward to the next.

This place is awesome. Great atmosphere, they take their time and focus on quality. Your haircut should be an experience and this place provides a top notch experience!

This place deserves all of the five stars it has acquired. You are warmly welcomed as soon as you walk in the door, offered refreshments, and given a quick tour if it is your first time. I came here to fix a cut that I had received the previous week that was trash. My barber, Rick, as well as everyone else in the shop were extremely personable and friendly. The cut is sweet, up there with some of the best I’ve ever had. I will be returning, 100%. And I highly recommend you give it a shot. (Book soon because the schedule fills up fast)

I have had the same hairstyle for about 7 years now and wanted to change it up. I recently moved to Rochester and had some bad experiences with a few different shops in town (look into some of my other reviews in my profile). I noticed that «The Gentlemen’s Barber» had some awesome reviews. Well it makes sense why, they are extremely organized in making appointments. No walk-​ins which I like, you can make an appointment and just show up… No more guessing at what a good time to get a haircut at, I have waited in some places for hours. Not a very fun way to spend your day. I made an appointment with Drew, the first thing I said to her when I sat down was «I wanna do something crazy». She laughed and said, «Ok lets go for it!». I was extremely happy with how the cut turned out, very modern look. And the most important part is that my girlfriend approved… always a good thing. I will be making appointments and getting my haircut here as long as I am in living in Rochester.

I just called and spoke with Frank and explained the predicament that I was in. I originally had an appointment with Drew, to cut my hair at 2 P.M. tomorrow (3÷2÷16) and had been notified that I was called in for a second round of interviews for a job at 2:20 that same day. Frank immediately looked into when they had an opening to get me in, which he did, an appointment at 1 P.M. with a comment of «we want you to look your best for your interview». Again showing amazing customer service and proving again that the customer loyalty is very important to them. Great company!

I needed an emergency repair job on a bad cut I got at a different shop. I called and Michael took me on the spot without an appointment. The guys are really nice. The shop has that old school cool vibe.
If I lived in Rochester this would be my go to spot.

I once liked this barber, but now it’s impossible to find an available spot. In addition to this, they’ve raised their prices to $ 25 for a simple cut. While the quality is here and is true, it is not consistent. Not all of the barbers can give you the cut you are looking for. I had one barber who was younger, and could do the cut in the appropriate time (20 – 25 min) while giving me the cut I wanted. A second time I had a middle aged barber who could not give me the cut I desired and failed to do so WITHIN AN HOUR. The consistency at this barber is very poor, I will no longer come here.

We recently moved to the area from CA, and my husband has been somewhat particular about his hair. I decided to «shop around» and schedule an apt for him, and when I saw the five-​star reviews, I booked it at the Gentlemans Barber. I had a little trouble figuring out the appt book, which may have been a browser issue. My husband went to Drew, who he said was a patient and careful listener to his preferred style, and she did a fantastic job. Might even be better than the place he went in CA — and, to be honest, I thought this cut is VERY sexy ;) thanks for making my husband look good, Drew!

I’ve only been once, and I’ve already scheduled my next visit.
After about 5 years of having my wife cut my hair, I decided it was time to go for something a bit different. A quick google search brought me to my first appointment.
Service was great. The atmosphere was pleasant, classy and professional. Pieter not only gave me a haircut, he gave me good advice about how to care for my hair.
And then there’s the actual haircut itself! I’ve gotten more compliments on the haircut that I received and any other that I’ve ever had. It has not been uncommon for me to receive two compliments from the same person!

Hands down best barber shop experience and best haircuts in Rochester. All the barbers give great cuts and the place has a nice old school atmosphere. Free snacks, coffee, water. and tea when your waiting. Classy joint with legit barbers in a city where these things aren’t easy to come by.

This is by far the best barbershop I have visited. Everything is so professional. The minute you walk in you are greeted by Michael the owner. He is a cool guy. I think he made the app and website by himself.
You get your choice of water or coffee as you wait which usually you dont even have to. And then they start you up. Equipment are top notch and they use straight edge at the end.
I had Colton multiple times and he did my hair exactly how I want it to. I am going to miss this when I move.

This place is awesome. I had never been to a barber before, and I can honestly say that I hope I never have to go anywhere else again. I made the appointment online and walked in on a Saturday morning. The owner is a nice guy and introduced me to everyone. He offered me refreshments including coffee and donuts. I made the appointment with Sean. Sean was awesome. He gave me a crew cut with a medium fade and a part. He also recommended a hair product to me based on my hair type. He definitely took his time and did a great job on my hair. The whole experience was great. I highly recommend it.

Ok so I am now bald because of the men that work here! And I have never set foot in the business!?! They volunteered their to time to shave heads for the St. Baldricks charity that raises money to help cure childhood cancers. When my hair grows back l, there is only one barbershop I am going too. I happen to get my head shaved by the owner Michael, who has one of the most bad ass mustaches I have ever seen. So friendly and funny, what an amazing business!!!

I’ve been looking for a real deal barber shop for years now and I finally found one. Michael the owner is very personalble and professional. All of the barbers in the shop are true masters of their trade.
I started out my experience with Drew, the only female barber in the pa=lace and was very happy with my experience. I got a haircut and a straight razor shave, my first time. It was a very enjoyable experience. I have since been back three more times and this last time got Sean for the same service, haircut and a straight razor shave. Like I said before Im not sure if Michael hand picks these guys but also a top notch experience. I will be going here from now on.
The ONLY down side to this place is the appointment making process. They do not allow walk ins and all appointments need to be made online. Because they run such a great business, you need to make your appointment almost two weeks in advance. He does offer an app for Iphone or droid operating systems where he sends push notifications out if there is a cancellation. But I unfortunately do not have either so its hard to know when someone cancels. My suggestions is some sort of cancellation que where people can either call or book online for that day where if someone cancels the person next in line is booked automatically to fill up the day. Case in point a few weeks ago I was leaving on Monday morning for a business trip and needed my haircut desperately on friday and had to go somewhere else because they were booked solid. ther than that this place is on point!

I’ve been a loyal customer at The Gentlemen’s Barber since Michael had his own shop by himself. Ever since Michael opened up The Gentlemen’s Barbershop on Union, I’ve been coming here. I remember when it was just Pieter and Michael and now the have quite a full staff. I was sad to see Michael retire his chair but I will always be a loyal customer of this Barbershop. Michael does a great job of making you feel at home and accommodating any requests you have. 5 stars from me and I will always come back.

There are not many businesses on Unilocal with 5 stars. Few of the ones rated 5 stars really live up to the promise. The Gentlemen’s Barber is one that truly deserves the rating.
Plenty of other reviewers have already touched upon everything that makes this place my go to barber shop and I will try not to be redundant.
Great atmosphere. Michael and his posse all welcome you when you enter. Coffee and donuts are offered on the weekend and bottled water every day. Jazz music playing in the background is great for my listening pleasure while I sit under the professionally trained scissor hands of any of the barbers. Appointment based schedule system makes it easier for me to get in and out without wasting any time waiting and has made parking a lot easier (street parking only) since people who are scheduled for a service are the only ones looking to park.
I have had my hair cut by Micheal, Sean and Manny and each one of them has a unique style with different results but a success every time. I enjoy the constant banter here and unpretentious conversations with whoever is tending to me. Manny also did a great job with a straight razor shave for me and is my usual guy for a haircut. The prices are very affordable and you don’t have to spend a fortune.
Michael excels at customer service and is very tech savvy which I really appreciate. His work on the website and phone apps for the barbershop are great. He is open to suggestions and advice/​critique. Instead of pushing me to buy a hair product they carry he instead gave me suggestions and gave me not one but two free samples to use and try for myself. I have been buying and using the same product (Mitch hardwired spiking glue) for months now thanks to Michael.
Micheal is already working on recruiting more trained barbers and assuming an administrative role himself plus introducing more time slots to tackle lack of appointment availability. My only suggestions would be to improve the phone app to have it stay «logged in» all the time for easy appointment access and to introduce a better reward system. Barber bucks which are separate for each barber and most of the time I myself or my barber forget about it anyway don’t really work. Maybe tie the reward system to my online profile and give me every 10^th (or 15^th for economical reasons) haircut free regardless of who I sit with. Would be much more «rewarding».
The haircuts are great but I come here for the entire experience which is unparalleled and deserves ⁵⁄₅.

I’ve been to this place twice and both times even with different barbers (Pieter & Colton) the experience was far better than any other barbershop I’ve been too. Not to mention both times my haircut was perfect. I mean PERFECT. I’ve been to many barbershops in NYC and no cut I’ve gotten has been as good as The Gentleman’s Barber.
The attention to detail by the barbers are incredible. Prices are great. You will not be disappointed.

This is the way a barber sanctuary should be: light jazz music; warm wood paneling; generous, classic, leather, chairs; tin ceilings; a languid pace in hair cutting, checking each corner and spot to ensure that accurate cut; complimentary water and coffee and a warm welcome from Michael, its owner, to every client that walks in. If this is his first time, Mike explains the process of reserving a slot since each session is 45 minutes — unheard of in amy salon I have been to. Every hair specialist, as I have observed, knows how to use a straight razor for a clean finish.

I have been going here for months now and I would never go back to a «hair salon» again! Recently they went to appointments only and this is great for the guy with a busy schedule.

I may not be the best at explaining how I want my hair cut. So I may be a little biased on this review. But today Michael talked me through the cut and I walked out feeling like a new man.
He also talked me through beard trimming and made me look and feel great. (And smelt)
The shop itself is gorgeous. They played relaxing music and offered me coffee or water as I walked in.
Overall a wonderful experience. Slightly pricey. But you definitely get what you pay for.
Michael and Phil are great. Very funny and knowledgeable of the area. Manny was on vacation but I look forward to meeting him next time I’m in the shop.
Definitely worth it. Glad I stopped by and they made it very clear that they were glad I did too.
