I saw Thonnie Smock at Tangles to get my nails done for my vacation. She was very pleasant and did a great job. I’ve never had gel done before so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but she had a ton of colors to pick from. She even offered to do a glitter accent nail for me! And who says no to a glitter accent nail? I sure didn’t. When it came to the pedicure part I didn’t see an spa chair like they have in most nail salons. Thonnie directed me over to a comfy chair where the bottom pulled out and she showed me that they use disposable soaker tubs. Honestly, at first I thought, they aren’t really set up for this sort of thing I guess? But the more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. You hear such horror stories about icky spa tubs and with this set up there’s no worry! The plastic didn’t change the experience what so ever. I can’t speak to the hair stylists because I just got my nails done but I’m definitely considering booking my next hair cut there. Everyone was very nice and I LOVE my nails.

My husband got me a gift certificate to get a SPA Pedicure here, as it was very close to our home. The pedi was $ 40 and here’s how it went. Very nice and friendly staff, it was a Friday so it was busy, but I got right in for my appt… then it went downhill… I am used to «spa» pedicure being offered with a foot soak of hot, bubbly water in a massage chair — especially for $ 40, which is what you would pay at a «high end» spa/salon. The foot bath was literally tap water in a basin… no bubbles and the water was luke warm at best. The chair did not have any massage mechanism that I could tell. If it did, I would have like to have been told about it. The footstool that you put your foot on was on wheels, so when my foot was on it being worked on, it kept rolling into her — this was annoying, I wanted to shut my eyes and relax, not hold me leg still. The selection of polishes was broad, but many of them had separated, not sure if this was a sign of old polish, I stayed away from those. They were«out» of toe separators, so I sat there while she twisted up paper towels to put between my toes. The scrub & polish were fine, but at the end… alas! NOTOEDRYERS! Again, this is the only place I have ever been that didn’t have dryers. So I walked(carefully) out to my car with my paper towel toe separators on and tried to peel them off… thus smudging my new polish!!! I walked straight back in and she gladly repainted the one toe again. The pedicurist was very sweet and nice, but Tangles needs to upgrade their«spa», or charge $ 20 for a polish change! For comparison, here are the other places I have been to and what they charge… I hope Tangles upgrades so they can compete at this«spa» level. I feel bad that my hubby spent $ 45 here, when I could have had a much more amazing pedi for $ 30! Scott Miller — Refresher Pedi — $ 30 — I have had this before and it’s amazing! Accents Salon — $ 30 Joy Nails — $ 30(also in Irondequoit) Shear Ego in Pittsford — $ 39 True Touch Salon — $ 40 for a SPA pedi, $ 30 for regular

I was referred to Tangles, specifically Nicky Gonzalez approximately 2 years ago when I moved here from CA by a family friend for hair color. Nicky is wonderful. She listens and can interpret what you want. Overall the Salon has a friendly and fun environment. You can tell that the staff enjoys what they do and like one another. All of them are very talented and professional. Time management is excellent too. I’ve never had an appointment where I had to wait more than a couple minutes once I arrived. Nicky gets the job done and you out the door like clock work. Great experience! I will continue to go to Tangles for all of my beauty needs for years to come!

I went in a few days ago to get my hair cut and was not satisfied with the way it looked. I went in again to get it fixed, and decided to get a fauxhawk. The hairdresser clearly did not know what a fauxhawk is. I told her I wanted it shorter on the sides, long on the top. She asked if I wanted it all the way down the back of my head, and I said no, just the top. She asked how I styled my fauxhawk last time, and I said I usually straighten it and then gel it up. After shaving my sides too short, she told me to close my eyes so I wouldn’t get hair in them. I now have hair that’s maybe an inch tall over the full top(when it should be at least a few inches) of my head rather than in a mohawk fashion. It looks alright for what she did, but it was nothing like what I asked. At least she didn’t charge me.

The five stars go to Danielle O. who is the waxing/facial woman at this spa. She is incredible. You might think you’re eyebrows look alright now… go to her, she will change your life. Danielle along with the other staff I have encountered are very friendly and full of advice. Any beauty questions you have are sure to be answered. The desk staff is great and nice when you walk in and on the phone when you call to make an appointment. Prices seem to be reasonable as well. For sure cheaper than some of the other well known spas around Rochester.
