If you have a daughter who likes any of the following: unicorns, rainbows, Katy Perry, sparkles, bubblegum, Frozen, mermaids, princesses, or kittens, it’s a pretty safe bet her eyes will widen when she steps inside Sweet and Sassy. Even if you’re not there for a party, they will style the child’s hair(they do a special heart-shaped braid) after cutting it, spritz it with scented hairspray, and sprinkle it with glitter, before sending them on their way with a lollipop(and, it’s hoped, some nail polish, toys, slippers, jewelry, more candy, little purses, etc — all of which they sell). My 9-year-old daughter loves this place, and so occasionally I bring her here for the full, glitter-covered, candy-colored, cupcake-scented experience. Unfortunately, it’s the experience you’re paying for, not the actual quality of the cut. The stylist who did my daughter’s hair during her recent visit admitted she was new(although she hastened to add she’s been cutting hair for a long time — not, however, kids’ hair, I daresay). She was very nice, but the haircut was a hot mess. Of course, since they style it, it wasn’t until the next day when brushing my daughter’s hair that I noticed that the cut(basically, a trim — my daughter’s hair is long and straight) was wildly uneven, the bangs not trimmed at all, and the«layers» she said she was putting in consisted of one clump of hair cut an inch or two shorter than the rest. After the cut, my daughter asked for the heart-shaped braid, but the stylist didn’t know how to do it. Another stylist offered to step in and«show her» — so she did one side, then let our stylist experiment on the other side. Guess how even that heart was? The bottom of the braid was falling out before we even got to the first of two parties my daughter had that day(one of them her own) so I had to un– and re-do it to the best of my ability when we left the salon. It would’ve been better to let the more advanced stylist do the whole thing, and have the other woman practice before trying something new on an actual paying customer. Luckily, my daughter’s hair is usually up in a ponytail anyway, so the poor cut doesn’t show — but I was disappointed. It felt like I paid $ 30(plus tip) for a shampoo, a squirt of hairspray, a dash of glitter, and a lollipop. Honestly, I could’ve given her the exact same haircut at home(and I know because, in moments of desperation, I have). I’m kind of hoping my daughter turns into a tomboy before the next haircut, so I won’t have to talk her out of going back to Sweet and Sassy.

Adorable concept. Brought Rease here this weekend for her first hair cut. It went as imagined, she wasn’t too into it. But the staff was great and was patient while Grandma and I got Rease relaxed. The salon is set up for young girls and it is a great place to have a birthday party. A group of girls(up to 8) get their hair done with manis, pedis, and facials. They have cake, walk down the catwalk, and get to ride home in a limo. Fantastic idea for 5−8yo.
