I’m not expecting much for a thrift store, after all… all of the stuff Salvation Army gets is donated. However, I don’t feel quality means anything here, and I’m not talking about the items themselves. The entire store is in this dilapidated state where in every corner you turn, there is either a wall of clutter where items should be neatly placed out, stains on the floor that look like they have started to mold into the floor itself, and if you’re lucky, you’ll be lucky enough to catch a nice smell of decay in the book area. Yea, I don’t know what is wrong with this branch because not all Salvation Army store’s are like this. I pray that no one shops for actual clothing here as most of the t-shirts had terrible brown and yellow staining on them and some of the jeans were ripped. Fortunately, I don’t come for clothing, I shop for the electronics, which sadly is SPARSE. There is one little corner at the far left when you enter and what you see is what you get. Be wary of the items that have the«not tested» sticker on them. Unless you want them for parts, don’t waste your time. I mean, are the employee’s here lazy or something? They these stickers on most of the cordless telephones, computer monitors, and keyboards. It doesn’t take that much to test them, but I guess just slapping a disrespectful sticker makes it all ok… whatever. The book and record area is a travesty. They were asking $ 3.00 for a nice old book dated from the 1940s, but when I picked it up, it disintegrated in my hands… I guess from the age of it but now with a broken spine, tattered pages, I passed. Their were no mix or cassette tapes sadly and the records were either caked with dust or chewed up that they weren’t even worth buying. However, when they price the right items, they price them right. I was able to pick up a few GameCube games for under $ 15 in the glass case because any item with a white sticker was half off, so that was something positive, but since I only come here for those areas, I have trouble recommending this others. I mean, this is close to me, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon, and you shouldn’t either.

This is the worst thrift store in Rochester. It is messier and a lot of the stuff you will find has stains, rips, etc. and was not well examined in the back room before bringing it into the store. Every once in awhile you will find something but by the time you would find something here you are basically sick of shopping. The clothes are definitely from the 90s and 80s. High top platform sneakers, mom jeans and blouses with big chunky buttons galore. I avoid this store though because I normally can’t find anything. Hitting the thrift store strip on Jefferson in Henrietta is a better bet.

There are a lot of laws out there. Murphy’s law, Moores law, the laws of the jungle and, as far as THIS Salvation Army goes… the laws of diminishing returns. Now, right off the bat I don’t want to diss Salvation Army as a charitable entity. They do a great job, they are a venerable organization. However, out of all the thrift stores that Salvation Army runs, this is my LEAST favorite. Over the years the store has deteriorated to a sorry state… Records & books are stacked haphazardly in a neglected corner of the store. CDs, DVDs & other electronic media are kept in a chained off area behind the cash register… to deter theft, of course, but it does send a message to the shoppers. Other stores of similar size(like AMVETS or Savers) do a much better job with merchandising media like this. I’ve also seen extremely bizarre pricing of electronics. I’d rather spend $ 99 for a new receiver at Best Buy than pay $ 69.00 for a beat up Pioneer receiver missing a remote control. *Sigh* well at least we have the Salvation Army locations on West Ave & East Ridge Road…

My girlfriend is from Long Island and absolutely loves this location. Why? Because the women’s clothing section is on par with all of her favorite joints along the North Shore. Shoulder pads, glitter, tassels, nylon jackets, Wilson’s leather, pirate boots, this place has everything for that eighties mom look you’re trying to perfect. They have other stuff too; a decent selection of records and furniture, a huge men’s section and more. This is a distribution hub, so all the big trucks dump off here before things are sorted. Same great low prices and all the proceeds go to a good cause.
