Newt’s Downtown

Service was good! But the burger is def not the best! It was cooked well, but really no flavor. If your looking for a GREAT burger stop at Kings Place in Miesville, MN. About 30 min north of Rochester.

I would say go to the Forager for a better burger. However, the nostalgic 80’s décor of this apparent long time Rochester establishment was pretty cool and authentic. The service was top notch and they serve their food incredibly fast. Worth a visit.

Terrible burgers
Not seasoned at all, no salt, no pepper. It taste bland.
I asked for a juicy Lucy. Waiter asked it will be medium I said ok, it came out rare.
my GF ordered a different burger, same thing. I’d say one of the bad burgers that I’ve had.

My husband and I went here on a Thursday night for what else? Burgers and beer. The servers and bartenders were all very friendly and the service was excellent. The burgers were fantastic! I had the Juicy Lucy and my husband ordered the Gustavo. They were both excellent and cooked to perfection.
We liked the atmosphere — it is a small, very laid back restaurant. It wasn’t too busy. When we walked I we were told to sit wherever we would like and when we were done eating, we sat and talked and finished our drinks without feeling rushed. Good experience — we will be back!

Recently ate at Newt’s downtown after not being there for a few years. The other locations seem to be maintained better than this one. The food was OK as far as burgers go and the prices are about what you’d expect these days — $ 60 for my wife, me and two kids. Not cheap but there are other places in town with better and more adventurous food for only slightly more.

Well I came here to try their burgers cause they were rated number one for 12 years in a row. I can tell you I was not disappointed what so ever the Marvin burger was totally awesome. I was in town for six days at the Mayo Clinic and had 3 meals here (yes that means I had a Marvin burger each time)

Delicious burgers, fries, and brews. This place is a safe default place to grab something to eat if you can’t decide on anything else. The staff are very friendly and attentive. If you are downtown and want burgers, I can’t think of any other place I’d rather go.

They just opened a new one at crossroads that’s good too, a lot bigger and with more tvs.

This place is a bar/​pub with burgers. And the burgers were so so. I had the Marvin Burger based on my waiters recommendation. It was OK. Not this amazing piece of culinary artistry. My onion rings were greasy/​overcooked in a crappy batter. Not impressed.
Nice joint, probably a lot of fun at night, but food wise? Not even close.

I was pretty hungry and looking for a place to drop by for a quick bite to eat, and Newt’s came up in my search as having the best burger in Rochester. Intrigued, I decided to give them a try. The entrance is a bit hard to find since it’s up a fire-​escape looking ladder, but once you get inside the ambiance is very cozy. I was there around 5:30pm so it was relatively quiet around the bar area, with soft music and dim lighting. The service was great. I was brought a bowl of lightly salted popcorn immediately (delicious!). The menu had a couple of appealing burgers, but I opted to go for the Marvin burger (a burger with bacon and chipotle mayo). The food came out promptly and true to its claim, the burger was very good.
Pros: very good burger. Juicy with a decent amount of bacon and chipotle sauce

The nicest servers! Service was great — my water was refilled twice and both the bartender and my waiter dropped in to ask how I liked my food
Cons: I wish the burger came with some accompaniments like lettuce, tomato, and onion — not eating a single green item for dinner left me feeling pretty unhealthy — although going for the burger instead of a salad was my choice :)

This burger is FN amazing I couldn’t choose from the Dave’s and the Marvin burger so I made a Darvin lol with guac and the bbq on the side. I can’t say enough. Those billboards worked. And they live up to the hype. Would definitely come back. The Dave’s burger is made with spicy jalapeños and garlic in the party and topped with peoperjack and bbq. Fries are great. Service was great. You must stop here.

Kind of hard to find (since it’s down an alley and upstairs) but worth it once you do. Burgers were incredible. Now I know why they were voted best burger since forever. Would definitely get the fried onion blue burger again. Plus can’t go wrong with free popcorn.

I forgot to mention the exceptional service! After I wrote my review, the manager contacted me to let me know that I forgot my ID (good thing I left a positive review, win-​win!).

Stopped in for burgers of course, and were starving. We walked over there around 6:00 and were able to sit right down. There is popcorn all over the floor from people being a general mess (hey, popcorn is hard!). It seemed more like a sports bar atmosphere than a restaurant with stuff all over the ground. I digress, the popcorn was fine.
I got a Marvin’s Burger which was cheddar, bacon and chipotle mayo. It was fine. The meat was good and it was cooked properly, but the bun was cold and not fresh nor toasted. I subbed for onion rings which were good.
The server was rushed and short. I think I honestly just expected something different from here, and it was very much a dingy, dirty hole-​in-​the-​wall fave. I enjoyed my burger, but it’d be a minute before I returned.

Stopped at a cute little gift store and they raved about this spot. I’m not a fan of bloody Mary’s, but I did see one that they made. It looked like a meal.
I had a Long Island iced tea. It was fab. Then… it arrived.
Perfectly cooked, with 3 strips of bacon and a side of onion rings. So…
IT WAS THE BEST EVER!
The onion rings melt in your mouth. The bun was awesome and the burger was fab.
What else you wanna know?
Oh and the service was very attentive and friendly.

Great burger! Very casual, dive bar feel. Has over 40 beers in a bottle plus a few on tap.

I am basing this review on my one experience, which was a room service order during my stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. I would have give it 2 ½ stars if I could. After reading the reviews on Unilocal,I wish I would have ordered a burger, but it sounded very heavy at almost 9pm (when I arrived after a day of travel). Instead, I ordered a Caesar salad and the chicken quesadilla.
The quesadilla was good. Not amazing, but very solidly good. It was a generous portion with a lot of chicken. It came with side containers of jalapeños (love this, as I am a spice fanatic), sour cream, salsa, and guacamole. The «salsa» was more of a basic hot sauce… pretty watery and with a flavor that was just meh. The guacamole looked and tasted like something you would buy in bulk, rather than homemade guacamole with fresh avocado.
The Caesar salad was bad. The romaine was overly drenched in a dressing that didn’t really have much flavor. They tried to add extra Parmesan and croutons to make it better but the croutons were soggy and the parm couldn’t save it. The salad went pretty much untouched.
I will go try one of Newt’s burgers if I have time during this trip, in hopes it will change this rating.

Great burgers (smokey ranch & gustavo are a couple of my favorites), great fries, AMAZING mozzarella sticks, and ridiculous (in a good way) Ultimate Bloody Marys. Oh, and don’t forget about the free popcorn! Service is friendly and attentive, ambiance is casual and a bit divey.
Really, I haven’t found a better burger in Rochester, that being said, don’t compare this place to the amazing burgers places in other cities or you may find yourself with a small amount of disappointment. Stop in and see for yourself why the locals (and many non locals as well) love this place.

Good thing I am just visiting or I could see myself coming here more than I should. The beer selection is great, the interior is very warm and can accommodate a group of at least 8.
So the food, onion rings are hand dipped, lightly battered and crispy. The cheese curds were fresh and fantastic. I can only speak for the peanut butter burger… crazy good. I will say you need to be adventurous, but will be rewarded. I mean peanut butter and bacon, can you go wrong? No.
Service was great and their music selection was the best I have hears in any restaurant.

While driving by the highway from Minnesota to Chicago, my husband and I started getting hungry. I quickly looked up placed on Unilocal along the rout we were in and I came across Newt’s. I have to say, the best decision was to stop here! Our server which was also the bartender was amazing! Thanks Lamar! And he made rocking bloody Mary’s. I typically don’t order Bloody Mary’s unless they look good and is a house specialty.
We were received with some freshly popped popcorn and a wonderful Bloody Mary with an ice cold miller lite chaser. Score, score, score!
The burgers were great, but I would lay off of so much garlic. That’s the only negative. Food does not need so much garlic to taste good.
Nonetheless I felt like I needed to be rolled out of there. I left very content and with an overall great experience!
