I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 star only because i previously had good food and service here. However, i recently went there for breakfast and had an awful experience only because the young female«manager» was extremely rude. The waiter had everything under control but she apparently had to question my complaint. So… i ordered an Italian omlette that comes with Italian sausage and mozzarella cheese. U can also order it with a peppers and onion sauce, which the waiter offered and i accepted. I also ordered home fries for extra $. When i got my omlette, the pepper and onion sauce was cold. But, im not the type of person who wastes food, so i continued eating. The omlette itself was hot, just the sauce ladled over the top was cold. I then saw that the cheese was not mozzarella, rather american. I kept eating. I then noticed that half of the home fries were cold and cooked MUCH less than the other home fries that were mixed in. So, i complained to the waiter, who was very apologetic and offered to have a new breakfast made. I said no because i really dont like to waste food and am scared of being retaliated against by an offended cook. But i thought it necessary to inform them of the errors. He was gracious and came back with a discounted bill. I thanked him but told him that i wasnt looking for anything free, that i will pay for the food and that i just thought he should know of my dissatisfaction. He left my table and then the manager stopped by shortly therafter. She asked what was wrong with a tone that was hardly empathetic, and quite frankly, cold. I explained what was wrong and she asked in an accusatory tone, «well, how come i see steam coming from your omlette?» I explained that it was the sauce on the omlette that was cold, not the omlette itself. She walked away without a word. As i was leaving, i saw her again and stated to her that i didnt appreciate being questioned about my complaint. She stated that she just needed to know what was wrong. I stated that i had already told her and the waiter what was wrong. She then replied in a nasty tone that«if we can’t make you happy, then FINE!» I told her she was rude and quickly left. I will never eat here again.

I only go here for breakfast. Really good, affordable. Great spot for UR students to get breakfast off campus on the weekends!

It was on the Valentine’s day that I visited here for the first time. There were two workers that were attending the tables and cashing out. Seemed to be a little slow service. Maybe they thought there will be less customers because it was a V-day, well, they thought wrong. I guess everybody loves coming here even on the V-day. This restaurant has the typical local diner, and their food was GREAT!!! I ordered a breakfast steak and was cooked so beautifully. Their home fries were not that significantly great, but their french fries are fantastic. Set up of this place made the inside of the room colder every time customer opened the door, but over all cute interior throughout. Though there were no music at all, felt very bare. Overall, I give 4 and would definitely coming back!

For U of R students, this is 5 stars compared to campus food. THEYHAVEREALEGGS. You can even see the yolk in the center and egg whites on the outside depending on how you order them. This place must be the hangout for U of R’s egg science faculty. Tables don’t have gunk all over them and the plates/silverware is clean. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. They make the food a couple minutes after you order, and make it quickly, so it doesn’t have that great aged-heat-lamp taste, but is still delicious. A whole breakfast here is cheaper than breakfast with campus dining monopoly money. ~$ 5 – 6USD. Score 10% off when you show your student ID with RED sticker and pay cash. 10⁄10 For everyone else, it’s a typical diner. The two biggest perks of coming here are the speed and low prices. Our food never takes more than 5-minutes to come out. Even when it’s packed on weekends. I haven’t tried lunch here, but their menu is extensive. I’ve seen some other customers with huge lunch plates, so I wouldn’t mind trying this place out for lunch/dinner in the future. As mentioned in my student opinion above, most breakfast items are less than $ 8.

There’s nothing like a great diner! The food and service here are both great. I will definitely revisit when in town.

First time here, but definitely exceeded my expectations. They will serve breakfast food throughout the day despite at a slightly higher price outside of hours. The portions are very nice and the food is great. The garbage plates are very good, burgers grilled perfectly with the cheese. The potatoes are delicious as is the mac salad; only thing I’d say here(preventing the five-star review) is that the potatoes were a bit colder by the time they were served, and the meat sauce wasn’t as flavorful. Very good prices, however — definitely would come back.

This is a greasy spoon diner. It will smell like griddle, the coffee won’t be single origin pour overs, and the omelettes aren’t like Pépin made them. This isn’t the Village Bakery, and that’s good. But it’s great. The portions are nice, they know how to actually cook eggs, and it will make you feel better when you’re hung over. If you go often enough the wait staff will remember you and your order and you can get breakfast for two, with coffee and tip, for less than $ 15. You can’t beat that.

I had higher expectations for this place, but it was an okay diner. Its very bright and welcoming and portions are big, but food is slow and not that great for the prices. I ordered the combination omelette, and it looked like there were just 3 mushrooms on top, and the ham and mushrooms weren’t spread out on the inside and the eggs tasted bland. Might come again for something else on the menu, and since it’s so close to college town, just won’t order any more omelettes!

I’ve been going here since I was a baby. The owner and waitresses know my family by name which adds to the charm they already offer. My grandmas favorite diner, and of course mine too

This place was great. I got the cheese steak, «The Bomber», with fries and drink. The service was super fast and the waitress was very attentive. The fries were fresh and had great texture. The cheese steak was tender and lean. The cheese flavor didn’t really seem to come through, but overall the sandwich flavor was good. I’d definitely go back if I lived in the area.

This is a totally solid diner choice. I prefer the sandwiches to the breakfast food, but I would go here for breakfast too. I would not bother with the milkshakes though unless you are three and are super pumped whenever you get a glass of anything slightly chocoolate flavored. The bacon is good.

The best thing about this place is that we drove around hangry looking for it for half an hour before the GPS finally came through and told us we had arrived at «Empty Hope Family Diner».(M-T Hope instead of Mount Hope. It got a strained, hungry laugh as we booked it inside.) The other best thing about this place is that its breakfast sandwiches are served on hard rolls rather than the standard english muffin or bagel. It’s so… Rochester. And I do mean that in the best possible way. Who knew the only thing holding a humble breakfast sandwich from greatness is a hard roll?(For those of you who don’t know what that is, reference my pic.) This is a standard diner. I’m sure the locals know what’s really good. Most of our food was middle-of-the-road, but it was really cheap so that’s always good. There is a pungent diner-smell that clings to your clothes when you leave. It took 3 days for my coat to stop smelling like Eau de Empty Hope.

Great diner. Reasonable prices, very accommodating. Good generous portions Nice staff. Has a borrow a book rack Mike the owner circulates and always has a corny joke or two. They will grill your wrap if you wish… delish. Lots of parking. Good specials. Fun old time Rochester photos.

Fine food for a diner. Cute little place. Lots of booths Prices are soooooo looooooow so that’s sweet Convenient location if you frequent Strong Memorial The butter is rock solid so you can’t spread it on your toast. Eggs a bit undercooked. Service was friendly.

I’m torn between 2 and 3 stars. Food: ordered the combination omelette with ham, cheese, and mushrooms. The color of the eggs looked off and the mushrooms had a funny taste. It came with a side of toast(choice of white, wheat, or rye). My friend ordered the waffles w/cream and strawberries and those looked ok. While the prices are low, I’m not sure if it’s worth coming here :(

It’s a diner, so my expectations of course would not be crazy high or crazy low. I used to go here once in awhile when I was still in school but just happened to go yesterday with a pretty large crowd for a Sunday breakfast. Here’s the good news — they were extremely accepting of people constantly arriving over the course of the meal and really helpful at getting chairs around and organizing us. They didn’t seem to mind(too much) and managed to still get everyone’s orders out all at the same time, which is definitely a plus. The waitress was also great because she was constantly checking in and topping off our coffee as we needed it. I personally ordered a mushroom and mozzarella omelette with extra black pepper — and they hit the nail on the head — it was pack full of pepper and that was really great! Sadly… it was missing salt? So in exchange for perfect pepper for me, I guess the salt also missed the mark a little bit. The toast was probably overly buttered, but that made it all the more rich. Overall a pleasant dining experience, a nice time out with friends, but nothing to write home about. It’s definitely not my favorite diner in the area, but that would mainly be due to the food — seasoning wasn’t 100% there, and things were definitely overly greasy or cooked too long. That said, it’s a diner, so no hairs lost over over-buttered toast!

Went here during a morning break from work. Steal deals for breakfast. I got a big plate of roasted potatoes, sausage link, sausage patty, eggs and toast for just about $ 6. Not the most gourmet food, but worth your buck if you want to get full at a decent price. Look for the early morning deals, I think it ends at 11am. Service was fast. Our server was prompt in serving and bringing out food. Tip on the table, but pay your bill at the front.
