Great environment… warm evening played games in the outdoor patio and hung out by the fire! Fun place!

Lux is great! Attracts a friendly alternative/hipster crowd of people who are welcoming to regulars and newcomers alike. What I really love about this place is they have some type of special or event going on every night of the week… there’s even free food some nights! I have not personally been here every day of the week yet but days I have enjoyed include Mondays: Arts&Crafts Tuesdays: Free PBJs, $ 1PBR after 9pm, Trivia at midnight Friday: Free Pizza There is a large patio area where most people tend to hang out(surprisingly there is a good amount of people out here even when the weather is cold! Silly weather, can’t keep us crazy Rochesterian’s inside…) There are tables, benches, a firepit and a hammock(which is a bit used in and hole-y, but still a fun option) outside to enjoy. Being a popular bar, it can get crowded during later hours on popular nights, but it’s a great place to meet new and interesting people!

Lux is a South Wedge staple and Rochester’s late night melting pot. Kinda like a young and hip version of Taylor’s — but only ironically. Just the same, it’s a preferable get away from the«bros» and the ordinary«Ku#trashians» wannabe. Dubbed as one of the«places to meet singles», you won’t smell the desperation as strongly as other«ends» around the city. The vibe is pretty mellow with a mixed crowd dancing to the occasional live DJ. Some nights a food truck can be found vending in front. As others have mentioned, they have commendable patio space. There’s also plenty space to lounge before the crowd starts to pour in. I suggest dropping in early evening to enjoy the oddities strewn about the place — especially if you are on the market for eccentric art works. The later hours get crowdy… and I mean… CROWDY. So naturally the single lady’s toilet is a no-no for moi. Though it may seem like a good idea to add your own piece to the already chalk decorated walls, it REALLY puts a halt to the long line of girls doing the tinkle dance… same for the boys! Don’t let the street address fool you! This place is rather peaceful. Well… I’ve felt like i was in hell before, but it was in no relation to the actual establishment. Never witnessed anyone fighting or getting kicked out. It’s just a fun dive.

I personally have a soft spot for this place. It’s within walking distance of my house and is SO much more than a bar! I just LOVE how during the summer they have free, live bands play(the last Thursday of every month I think?) and all sorts of other interesting entertainment. Every time I go, I can’t believe how cheap my Jack and Diet is – and they don’t hold back on the Jack! i went once to the B-rated movie night when my sis was in town. I found it thoroughly entertaining. There was a large crowd so come early if you want a seat.

A little divey hipster place that has a pretty good vibe. The drinks are cheap and good, and loved the hot cider. There is an indoor and outdoor area, and both have good spaces to sit down and talk. There are games outside(as well as a dick chair), and fire pits. Inside there is a pool table and a bunch of comfy seats. This is a place you don’t go alone, but it is good with larger groups.

There’s nothing *wrong* with Lux, but there’s always been something just a little too forced about it for my taste. To me, Lux is the over-aged and subtly over-cool drug dealer at a frat party. You know he doesn’t belong and you can see he’s trying too hard but since he’s providing the services everybody wants and not causing too much trouble, nobody really minds. They say Rome is the place to see and be seen, and so Lux is the place to lay and be laid. Of the times I’ve been here, I’d say over ¾ have been with a friend or group of friends, any or all of whom are looking for a happy ending to their evening, and from what I hear there’s a reason people all come here for that. it delivers. All things considered though, for a lowly, non-single, thoroughly boring nerd well removed from her days of alcohol poisoning and bad decisions, Lux has little to offer me besides the occasional cheap PBR, which I rarely ever want anyway. It’s dark, it’s dingy, it’s weird(but not in an organic kind of way…), it has the aggressively desperate vibe that every hook-up bar has, while simultaneously trying too hard to look like it doesn’t care, and you will ALWAYS leave reeking of campfire. But, like I said, there’s not really anything wrong with it, and if that’s what you’re looking for(like so many are), then, hell, go and have fun.

This is a black diamond of coolness located in Rochester that reminds me of a bar closer to home. People seem to be here to have a good time and are not overly concerned with impressing others or Keeping up with anyone else, which is refreshing in most all situations. The vibe is chill, laid back, and carfree with a mild variety of music playing. Lux has a very ecletic and interesting interior to say the least. The Bar is extra crazy with all kinds of bizzare things on display you would have to see for yourself. I think it looks really bad ass and appears to have been collected over time. The art on the walls and around Lux is for sale, changes every month and is pretty bad ass and one of a kind. The interior also includes a table with actual legs(fake human legs of course) coming out from under it, bathrooms with black walls & chalk writings and drawings all over the walls, and a cool outside smoking area for«All» that includes a dick chair… yes a dick chair. Lol I have come here several times while out here and will continue to come back as I come out again. Cheers Lux!!!

One of my favorite bars in ROC city, Lux has something for everyone. Aside from daily specials boasting cheap drinks or free pizza, they are conveniently located next to Hedonist(for your chocolate and ice cream desires) and sometimes you’ll find Le Petit Poutine food truck set up outside. They also have special events like movie nights and dance parties. There is a pool table, couch, various seating arrangements and an outdoor patio WITH A HAMMOCK. Needless to say, this place gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights.

I have friends who swear by this place, but it’s not really my style. I dig their daily specials — PB&J night, free pizza on Fridays, drafts and crafts night. Drinks are super cheap(which makes the $ 10 minimum on cards somewhat hard to manage), and one of the best things you can do in the winter is get a hot cider with rum or whiskey. Yum. Love the outdoor area in the back, and the funky décor. It gets super crowded and loud late at night, and whenever I leave this place my hair smells completely like an ashtray. Fun place to hang, but you won’t find me ever suggesting to spend the evening at Lux.

By far the best bar around. Cool, unique, dark. No matter what if you want a funky place to go with a wild vibe come here and just people watch or take part. Lux is pretty damn cool.

My favourite bar in Rochester! The service is always friendly, the crowd amicable and their drinks strong! I usually get the cheese burger shots for $ 4.50, they’re a shot of tequila followed by tomato juice then pickle juice, really fun and tasted so good, the pickle juice just washes away the tequila taste immediately. During the spring make sure to hang out outside, they have a huge backyard with a lot of tables, the famous penis chair and some games. My favourite thing is the people that go here really are a lot more friendlier than other bars, and not as rowdy or loud. Theres a special every day and they even have free food sometimes!

What can I say? This is my local cheers where everyone knows your name. The nights all have a theme of some sort. From your crafty Monday nights plus if you have a lux mug you can get discounts on draft beers to Swagger Saturdays. Pabst smears are the best deal for a shot and beer for 3.50, I believe 2.50 on Tuesdays for trivia and twister. The backyard is where I hang and I always see a smiling friend when I go hang out. The local art is awesome plus Karrie does a lot for the wedge as a BASWA member. Thanks for being here lux, a customer since 2006.

Lux is a place you go with your friends but end up having hour long conversations with strangers around the fire out back. It gets crowded. It gets loud. It gets difficult to get to the bar. But it stays BS free. It feels genuine. Lux attracts a certain type of person, rather, brings out a certain type of personality. Everyone I’ve met here has been awesome. I go to Lux for the $ 3 Pabst Smears and the conversation.

Oh Lux, where do I begin. For starters, what other bar can you walk into, go up to the bartender and say«can I get a Pabst Smear please?» and in return you are gifted with a PBR and a well shot of Whiskey, oh and for only $ 3? absolutely amazing. Lux is so creative and different, it is unlike ANY other bar in Rochester. The wedge is such a vibrant and exciting place to be as it is, and then you enter Lux and are taken to a completely different world. with a range of Twister night, Trivia night, movie night, grill your own cheeseburger night — they are always keeping it edgy and new with their ways of getting customers to interact. You will always leave Lux at the end of the night with at least one new friend and an array of fun new stories. Their back patio set up makes you feel like you are 18 again at a cool backyard fire party. You will always go home with the bonfire smell clinging to you, and I love it. Sunday nights in the summer at Lux are my absolute favorite. Tons of people outside laughing and hanging by the fire, people playing ring toss and grilling their own cheeseburgers(they give you a patty and a bun for a buck and you get to go make it yourself on the grill in back) They also do a snack bag, for $ 5 you can choose from four different types they have. It literally is just a random bunch of snacks in a brown paper bag. Lux is always trying to feed you. They do a free PB&J night on Tuesdays and whenever I have been there on Sunday nights around 10pm a local pizza place brings in all their leftover pizzas(tons of different kinds) and it’s all free. If you want to go out and just have a fun chill night, see new things, meet new people and get drunk for super cheap, Lux is your calling!

Southwedge in general is a pretty lovely neighborhood and a cool place with plenty of interesting destinations for a night out with friends. Lux is kind of the centerpiece of Southwedge and I really enjoy this weird hipster bar. All the bizarre pictures on the walls and signature tables just make this place more interesting to me. It is always super crowded and a fun place for dancing. Beer is cheap and people are nice here. Going to bars and dancing the night out is definitely not my forte, still Whenever I go to Lux, I have a great time just being in the bar. They had free pizza last night! Cold pizza!!! but a nice gesture! If I were a real«barfly»(as I just got the honorary badge from Unilocal), this place would definitely be one of my favorites in town.

This was my first time here as has been the case with many places I’ve gone to here. I really liked the ambiance and it reminds me of a place I’d find in Haight District in SF or Berkeley. Well, aside from dogs apparently being allowed inside and maybe a bit more fancy on the West Coast but I liked it. A very non pretentious crowd which I am not used to here in Rochester. The people were very mellow and not over dressed for Rochester and it was just an over all mellow experience. The drinks were reasonably price and there was plenty of seating. However, this was during in the evening and not at night when you might see larger crowds. I like the décor and Pop Art on the interior and it all makes for an inviting environment. The service was pleasant and speedy. Overall it was a good experience to just be out in a mellow environment where the vibe was cool. I’ve heard some people say it’s a Hipster hangout but that was not the case when I went. I’d recommend this place for anyone who wants to chill and be themselves without the odd stares. Cheers mates.

I have visited this bar a few times during my many years in Rochester and I am not overly impressed with the layout of this establishment. This is not a bar that I personally would visit on my own in part because this bar is very dark with a twisted sense of humor which is depicted through their artwork on the walls. The people who visit this bar give me the impression of being new-age hippies into love and trees. Nevertheless, I like the backyard/patio area is HUGE and can accommodate a lot of people; in the summer I have smelt the scent of cannabis.

If you’re under 30, drink, and live in Rochester, you better have been to Lux. I’m not saying it’s everybody’s thing, but it’s something we should all experience. The cons: * It’s super loud * It gets really crowded * The drinks aren’t anything to write home about * It’s incredibly dark * There’s a $ 10 minimum for cards The pros: * It’s Lux

Lux is a cool neighborhood bar for those who live, work and play in the Southwedge. I’ve been to Lux a few times and each time has been welcoming and fun. Unlike a lot of other bars around town, Lux seems to be very down to earth. Drinks are good and they even offer a few specialty drinks which are unique and cool. I recently attended a surprise birthday party here and had a blast. The location was perfect for the party size and Lux appeared to be a gracious host. If it is your first time going be advised that the décor is a little raunchy or provocative. Take it in jest and know that it only adds to the playful atmosphere. Lux is not a bar that I would typically frequent, but if it’s your cup of tea, then it would be an ‘A-ok’ choice for a casual night.

Lux has to be THE hipster bar of Rochester, and definitely a South Wedge mainstay. It’s definitely not a bar that i frequent, but I was down to head there with some friends last weekend. We got there pretty early(9) and it got steadily busier as the night went on. The décor is eclectic to say the least. A mix of tables and old sofas/chairs, with all kinds of odd lamps and knickknacks everywhere, many have an «alt» vibe to them. The patio is not to be missed: whimsical with Christmas lights, plenty of seating and a fire pit, which was a necessity on that cold November night. They seem to have interesting specials like PBJ and $ 2 PBRs, free Pizza, game and movie nights. The crowd definitely leans towards hipster, but I encountered all types of people on my recent visit. This is NOT your typical bar, but I actually enjoyed myself and I’d entertain returning, especially in the warmer weather so I can enjoy their fabulous patio!
