I recently moved out of state but I make sure I stop by Lipuma’s when I’m in town! You can’t get find a good coney island down south where I am. Everything about this place is great– the staff, location, prices, atmosphere, and most importantly, the food!

I was taking a walk along downtown Rochester and this comfy little place caught my eye. I loved their French Fries and the split peas soup. I usually avoid French Fries as they are too oily and unhealthy in most places. I make an exception for this place. I have been there multiple times for the hot-dogs. Loved them every single time. One of the best places in downtown Rochester.

Visited Rochester three times. I’ve been to this spot every time. I always grab a coney and Chicago dog. Had a taco this trip and it was bomb. Side of fries right to the thighs. I’m content with that.

This place is a solid 4 for location, price, quality(for what it is) and taste… they do get knocked down to 3 stars because they are still CASHONLY!!! Which to me is the most ridiculous thing ever. I don’t like hotdogs so I usually stick to chili fries and a drink when I come but Mr. V loves their hotdogs! They have a cute little deck area to sit that’s not too far from the water which is great when it’s nice out but some of their napkin holders and salt/pepper outside are rusty which is pretty gross. Overall this place is cute and inexpensive but the fact that they’re cash only is just irritating.

Great place. Friendly owners and employees. When I’m in Rochester I always want to eat here. Now that I own Lipumas t-shirts I think about them even more. We’ve been their customers since they opened in 1968. I gotta get back to Lipumas soon!

Walking to the restaurant, my friend needed to use the restroom urgently. The owner directed her to the location of the restroom with great precision(believe me she wouldnt make it to the restroom without his direcrions– she is very bad with directions). Anyways the place is magnificent and is located to a tiny river. You can feel a human again after being alienated from nature by technology. The coneys are fabulous and not expensive. Everything looked good. So I decided to get 4 coney, burrito and chilly fries(no regret). The workers are very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely go back.

It is Lipumas! Nothing else really needs to be said. For a change up from the traditional Coney dog I recommend the Mexican which is a Coney dog with a tortilla instead of a bun. Next, always try a taco with your order, gives your meal a little diversity! Finally they have chili cheese fries the way they were intended to be made with shredded cheese on top of the fries and then coney sauce poured overtop the cheese!

First of all, I just want to comment on how fresh the ~veggies~ are here at Lipuma’s!!! And the tomatoes and pickles they put on the hot dogs are so nice and cold… And the hotdog bun… It’s so nice and fluffy… Coney island food is so damn good(in general) but idk if this restaurant deserves the hype it does… I mean the Chicago dog and chili fries are amazing, but I still feel like the menu is kind of limited and they can certainly change their ‘cash only’ policy. The food is still great though! Just not ‘woohoo! as good as it gets!’

By far the best coney I’ve been too. Everything here is great. The tacos, coneys, soups. Never once have I had a bad experience. The staff are friendly funny and take pride in their work. My favorites are the Mexican dog and bacon dog

This is a place that has a clear identity. It serves very good hot dogs and fries. I love the Chicago dog and seasoned fries. The prices are reasonable and the food is very good. Remember to bring your cash as they don’t take credit cards.

Just got back from Chicago and I can definitely say that Lipuma’s Chicago dog is about as good if not better than the ones I had there. People were also very friendly, and I can see myself enjoying a hot dog while sitting outside in the warmer months.

Best coneys this side of Michigan Avenue. Family owned and strong. LOVE the Old guy. His son who now runs the place does an excellent job. This is a Rochester institute. All walks of life, big and small. I could eat the house Tacos everyday. Dang, if I didn’t have 4 tacos and a chilli dog loaded. I would have tried the bean soup. It looked amazing. Don’t let the line out the door scare you. It moves fast and so worth it. BRINGCASH. They don’t do credit.

I am going to rate this lower than anyone probably ever has, but before you discount my review hear me out. There are very good reasons for this! First, they take ‘cash only’. What business in 2015 takes only cash? Also since their prices are fairly high, it seems a bit ridiculous to expect someone to have a $ 50 bill in their pocket. Having worked in the restaurant business in the past I can tell you why they only take cash — in one word… Taxes. This ‘old world’ way of doing business is not acceptable these days, and unless they change they will continue to suffer as society moves cash-less. I don’t even carry cash these days, do you? Second. They changed all of their recipes. I know this because I have gone to this place since I was 4 years old. Their taco sauce is totally different, hotter, less flavorful. In effect, the best part of their tacos was changed. Why? Their chili is thinner, but spicier, and ultimately not as good. Why would they change something that everyone loved? Big mistake. Third. If you are a foodie I am going to laugh at you in advance if you go here. Just let me say … LOL! Ultimately this has become more of a ‘run of the mill’ coney, what you will find on every other block in Michigan while previously it was a special place. Is it the best coney in Rochester? Probably. The best coney in Oakland County? Not even close. To me this is a long line of ‘ruined’ coney joints in Michigan starting with Athen’s in Royal Oak which was also ruined by ‘changes’. One of the first rules in the business is — if it works — leave it alone. The second rule is ‘adapt’ to changes in the world, without changing your business. Lipuma’s fails on both accounts, failing to adapt to a cashless society, and changing a business when it was already working fine. Try Martin Coney Island in Southfield. A buck gets you a ‘real’ old school coney served up by a guy that has been serving coneys since the 1940s. They take debit cards too!

I love a good hot dog joint and this place hit the spot. The coney was tastey and delicious, the fries were hot and fresh and the service was fast. My boyfriend also tried the Russian which was a hot dog topped with creamy coleslaw, the coleslaw had a lot of flavor. I can’t wait to go back in the summer and enjoy the outdoor seating. Need a dessert after? Head down the street to rochester and tinken and check out Rockin Cupcakes! !

Looking for the best coney in Michigan? Look no further, this is easily the best coney I’ve ever had. Not to mention the location is incredible right in downtown Rochester, with a beautiful outdoor patio and the view of the clinton river while you enjoy your coney and fries. This is a small family owned shop that people wrap around the outside of the building for on a daily basis! The owner is a great guy and always there to help his customers out, making sure his customers are fed and happy. Don’t go to another coney, you won’t have to after you try out this place!

This is hands down the best coney dog place in Rochester! The have your standard coney island hot dog with chili onions and mustard, which is fantastic! But they also have others like The Chicago, New York, Texas, Bacon, Russian, Mexican, Relish, Flip Saunders, coney burger, combo dog and plain dog. I’ve also tried the Chicago which is made on a poppy seed bun with tomato’s, sport peppers, onions, relish, pickle, mustard, and celery salt. This one is a keeper and definitely a must try. Amazing taste! This place was started by Bill Lipuma in the summer of 1969. Each summer this place has a line down the street. The wait is at least 20 minutes, but usually 30 minutes. Right now his son Tony runs it. And he runs it perfectly. The customer service is quick and very friendly. Everyone at the counter is there to please you as you yell out your order. All the hot dogs are made with Koegel’s a skinless hot dog from Flint. They server all dogs on a paper sleeve. You can also get fries with malted vinegar for the old fashioned taste. Drinks are typical fountain or water. This place is cash only, so bring dem bills! This is a must visit for any coney dog lover. We’ll be back very soon.

Seriously, the best Coney! The lines are always out the door, but they have ordering down to a science and things move pretty fast. I love that the Paint Creek Trail leads right up to the back of the restaurant. Bring cash! They do not take credit cards.

Easy & free to park, friendly staff, solid wieners on fresh buns, crispy salted fries, and they ring a bell when you tip em’! *don’t be afraid to load that table up with some dogs all squirted with mustard, onions and or chili and just go to town. *free refills on your cola *nice area with tables along side a running creek that makes for some great background noise when the cars aren’t passing. *only regret, not getting here sooner. Leason learned I will be back.
