Be prepared to spend big bucks with Appliance Tec. Our 2 year old Whirlpool refrigerator sprung a leak in the hose to the ice maker. Appliance Tec was the authorized repair company that Whirlpool sent out. They arrived and quickly diagnosed the need to replace the cracked hose. A $ 62 (retail price) item — I’m sure less for them to acquire. The price of the service call $ 245.
You run the numbers and decide whether to use them. I passed.

I’m giving Appliance Tec 5 stars not because they did a good repair job, but because they did not even come to my house.
I recently bought a house which came with a washer and dryer. The washer is unbalanced even when it’s empty and smells like a wet dog. On the morning of the appointment, Kevin, one of the repair technicians, called me. He told me based on the serial number, my washing machine was 9 years old, and he suggested that I not have work done on it. He told me that the model had a common problem that would be about $ 500 to fix, assuming he could find the parts, and that due to the age of the machine something else might go wrong later.
We ended up talking for about 15 minutes with him advising me on how to fix the wet dog smell and what to look for when shopping for a new machine. I was highly impressed that he would turn down a paying job to save me money. I’ll certainly call them again if I have something else break!
