We love walking down to PAMP — even if we weren’t down the street from them, we’d STILL go out of our way to come here regularly. The pizza is fantastic — honestly, just try them, even if it sounds weird. The Morning Maple is one of our favorites, but«pickled eggs»?? Normally wouldn’t have tried that. Now it’s one of our go-to pizzas. Their house specialty Piggie Pie is amazing, the brioche crust is the best«deep dish» pizza around. All of the flavors are incredible, fresh ingredients and great combinations. I hope they put the pork nugs back on the menu, because holy crap they’re like little candied pieces of pork heaven. And that’s just the food. The beer lineup is always great, they have a good rotation of interesting beers and local favorites. No liquor here, but pizza and beer are better together anyway! The restaurant itself is a blast. Get ready to drool over your neighbors pizza or for that neighbor to ask you what pizza you just ordered when the staff brings it over. This place is a blast and is absolutely worth your trip. Say hi to Ben when you go, though the whole staff makes the experience worthwhile. Side note… we may be a bit obsessed. We loved going here so much that we asked them to host our wedding reception, which they pulled off like pros. EVERYONE, had a fantastic time — whether it was a younger cousin or one of our grandmothers. Do yourself a favor. Get to PAMP and have a great time.

This time around had to get the piggy Pie again, but also tried the new Chicken Mole Pizza. This is a unique creation, regular crust(a bit thinner than normal) mole sauce, mole chicken, pickled radish and jalapeños, avocado cream and lemon creama topped with micro greens.(maybe I am missed a few ingredients but, hey I am not the chef) Delicious combination of flavors with smoky cumin being the highlight. The only negative I felt was the pizza was crisp, almost to the point of being dry. Else it a an innovation worthy of trying. Nothing to comment about the mouth watering delicious piggy pie! They were quite empty for a Friday evening. Our waiter is usually very attentive, but this time he seemed to be distracted. Didn’t ask us for dessert and another lady just brought us the check. I wanted to try the petit fours or the pie but looks like they didn’t want me to !! Dropped them to a 4 star for service.

I love how there is this lovely pizza place in tiny suburbia. The staff is super cool! Pizzas are bomb! The downside is seating! It can be hard to be seated, but we live nearby so we don’t have that trouble.

Underwhelmed. We ordered the Kamehameha(odd that the waitress didn’t know how to pronounce it properly) and the Piggy Pie. Kamehameha: light on sauce. Toppings were mediocre, at best. Crust was nice, but crust should not be the most memorable part of a pizza. Piggy pie: for the price, what a joke. The brioche crust was good. I loved the fluffy nature of it. Toppings were standard. Some sort of crumbly sausage. Fresh oregano. Oddest part was the folded pepperoni laid on top. When I think pepperoni, I think slightly charred, or crunchy. The salty tasty coming out. This was cold and limp. Full warning: this pizza is smaller than the others; likely because of the crust. BUT, smaller crust also means fewer toppings and less sustenance. Seems a bit off for the high price. Overall, disappointing. Especially for the price. Much better places out there, like Pizzeria Lola off Xerxes

PAMP! I was really excited to try this place, I’d heard many good things. I was a little disappointed with the ambiance at first, it was WAY smaller than I expected, but our wait ended up being much shorter than we were initially quoted so I was a happy camper. I actually enjoyed sitting at the farm style table with strangers on either side of our group, we ended up having some nice conversations with them. We started off with the charcuterie plate, this was a pretty great value considering the time and effort that went into it and was plenty for 4 of us. Our service was good, our waiter was very patient with our indecisive bunch(even if I wasn’t!). The pizza selection is very creative and well executed, but pretty small and pricey. We ordered 3 pies for the 4 of us and that didn’t seem like quite enough. The basic pizzas were underwhelming, a little under seasoned and left me wishing I had taken more of a gamble on something else. The only reason I’m giving this 3 and not 4stars is because I probably wouldn’t jump at the chance to go back. I imagine the wait times get pretty outrageous and I’m just not patient enough to wait all that time and in the end leave hungry!

I had the worst experience here. I know everyone else is obsessed with PAMP, but I’m just not. Community tables only, which is fine I guess, but it’s loud and the tables are wide enough that it’s hard to converse about anything other than the food without feeling like your privacy has been invaded. In other news, they serve a sauerkraut pizza. At community tables. i.e. I got to spend my entire meal gagging and burying my face in my shoulder because the woman sitting four inches from my right shoulder ordered a steaming platter of fermented cabbage. We tried three server-recommended beers, none of which I enjoyed. Sigh. I didn’t necessarily expect to love this place, but I came in with an open mind and was sorely disappointed. I can’t even remember what we ate because I was so distracted by the great time I wasn’t having.

So much fun! We wanted to try everything. At first, it seemed very«hipster» but the staff was great, and we met many new friends at the long table! It was very loud, but we should have expected that. We will definitely be back to try more of the unique pizzas. We had the Simpleton… but probably should have tried something a little more«out there.» It was delicious, but there were so many other yummy looking pizzas, and the charcuterie plate looked wonderful(the couple next to us had it). P. S. the cream puffs were absolutely delicious. I’m not a dessert person, and I LOVEDTHEM.

Haven’t been able to get into this place so had to stop by for lunch during the week with some friends. Cool atmosphere, not the sardine-packed-nightmare that it is during Wed-Sat night. Seriously, call me whatever but I cannot fathom the quality of food that would inspire me to stand around, not being served or noticed, for an hour before I can sit down and not even be able to talk to my dinner-mates because of the noise. Whatever that mythical food is, Pig Ate My Pizza is not it. Still delicious but not stop-the-world-and-wait-forever food. Our table ordered the Simpleton, Pamps Ramps, Piggy Pie and the Diana Ross. My favorite was the Pamps Ramps — the green sauce is absolutely delicious! But now onto a couple critiques; 1. The pizza’s didn’t come out at the same time. We each ordered our own pizza so 2 of us had to wait to eat for about 6 – 7 minutes. Not the greatest experience. 2. Although we asked for the deets on certain pizza before ordering(and got the rundown) it wasn’t until the pizza’s were placed in front of us that we were told about each and every ingredient. Would have been MUCH more appreciated before we actually ordered. I’m glad I finally stopped by but can’t say I’ll be running back considering the wait and price.

I had been hearing about this place for a while but hadn’t tried it yet. The first time I went, my husband and I stopped by on a Wednesday night. It was packed to the brim with a 45 minute wait. We left but promised to come back soon. If it was that busy on a Wednesday night, it’s bound to be amazing! So we went back the next week and were surprised by the seating. You sit at «lunch room» tables and most of the time across from your partner. This was a little weird, talking where everyone can hear you but it was all a part of the atmosphere! All of the menus are on the walls too. We got the margarita pizza and it was amazing. I highly recommend going here if you haven’t been yet!

So glad I was able to try this place out over the weekend. The restaurant itself has a very cool, community vibe. Besides a couple of large booths, the seating is community style, with long wooden tables and chairs. They have the menu on a chalkboard on both sides, have the Karate Kid playing on their tvs, and has an open kitchen. Our waiter was awesome and answered all of our questions, as well as gave us some great recommendations. The pizza was delicious and the entire experience was awesome. We will definitely be back soon.

Fun pizza place but not for those who love traditional neopolitan pizza with red sauce. While some in our group loved the thick brioche crust piggy pie $ 17, I was more in favor of the regular thinner crust speciality pies. We went for lunch(opens at noon) which allowed us to beat the crowd. Great kitchen staff and additional to downtown robbinsdale. While there don’t forget about the non-pizza menu items!

Quick tip: make sure your entire party is there. They won’t seat you til then. This would be best as a 3.5 star rating but I gave it a 4 since the pizza was good. The atmosphere wasn’t my thing though. I felt like I was in a dive bar for pirates… that make delicious pizza and drink lots of beer. It’s got a eccentric(?) feel to it. The entire staff probably rotates and shares roles, which is kind of a cool concept. There isn’t really a hostess. Someone just eventually runs up to the stand to take names. For a Friday night though, we got seated fairly quickly. There are no menus except on the chalkboard(so don’t be vain and bring your glasses) and only some of the main ingredients are listed. Ordering felt a lot like tossing a dart at a rolling board and hoping it landed on something tasty. Thankfully, there is Unilocal and Instagram for those of us who are visual eaters or if you get very upset when your food is less than stellar(me) because of a surprise ingredient that you would rather throw at someone than eat. I had a delicious sour(duchesse) that was great with my Kamehameha pizza(think Hawaiian pizza– sweet and savory plus spicy)! The boyfriend had the Piggy Pie which was super fluffy and loaded with meats. My friend and her date got the Ghandi(soooo good but boy, was it spicy!!!) and piggy pie again. The service was okay. Our server was present but he spoke too fast for first time diners and seemed impatient with us. It’s also a small place with large communal dining tables. It’s not the greatest for families with small children as it gets cramped and the cooks and servers occasionally chug down boots of beer and chant boisterous bar songs. And if you want to hear each other at dinner? Forget it. Haha. Quirky atmosphere, a little pricy for the size of their pizzas(although it was good), but I think next time I’ll have to go while drunk or take my pizza to go.

I have been to Pig Ate My Pizza twice. Yeah, it’s kind of hipster but, while some places with that vibe have too-cool-for-school service, this place is friendly and welcoming. The pizza is the best. Really. I have had the Big Cheezer, the Diana Ross(Supremes, get it?), and the Simpleton(pancetta, goat cheese, sorrel). Fanfrickintastic. The crust is hand tossed with perfect texture. And the flavors are great. You can tell a lot of time was spent coming up with the perfect combination. The herbs they use are fresh and never overpowering. My favorite was definitely the Big Cheezer which has an egg with a runny yolk in the middle. It sounds plain but it is soooo not. And the beer… great selection of taps. The atmosphere is unique but I enjoyed it. Great woodwork, unfinished floor, primitive dishes. You night sit next to a stranger but you won’t even notice… if you don’t want to. Definitely a place to experience.

You can tell when someone loves doing what they do and you know that your food will come out great because of it. Everyone at PAMP was friendly and happy to be there. We arrived 45 mins before closing so we saw the last end of the night but it most definitely ended with a beer chugging contest between different groups. The food too, was exceptional, even near closing. We ordered the buratta which was a house made«mozzarella» stuffed with tomatoes and herbs and a basil foam(maybe? I forgot what the chef stated) but it was excellent. I’m used to a traditional buratta so cutting this open and finding tomatoes was a surprised. It was severed over toasted baguettes. We also order the hot Gandhi, and yes, it was hot and spicy! It’s a chicken tikka masala pizza topped with Serrano peppers served with a mint chutney. Everything about this meal was delicious. It reminded me a lot of travail’s way of doing, which was great. Of their own of course but very creative and pretty on a plate. Verdict:…Innovate, spot-on cooking. I’ll be back PAMP.

My wife and I were up in Robbinsdale and decided to try a place we have been meaning to visit for a long time, since we are hardly ever up north in the metro. Lots of young hipsters in here, but all super nice servers. A great beer selection but it was 1PM and a work day, so I stuck with Diet Coke. The menu is on the wall, and I instantly saw the Cuban pizza. So I got it with no cheese. After about 3 refills, the pizza came out and it was full of ham and pickles and a mustard/cheese sauce, There was also a crazy awesome corn meal like powder they sprinkled it with. Every bite was amazing, they had a spicy powder the put on top. Super light and crispy crust. My only complaint is that it was $ 17 for a personal size pizza. We splurge every once in awhile on non-Groupon restaurant, I am glad we did. What an awesome pizza place!

The last time we went to Pig Ate My Pizza, an employee met us at the corner of the bar that serves as the host stand(though they don’t have specified hosts) and said, «Two? Follow me this way.» Loud music pulsed through the small space and I noticed she was dancing. «Don’t mind me,» she said. «I can’t stop dancing. I mean, literally, I’m not allowed to stop dancing.» As we sat at the end of our community table we realized, indeed, all the employees were shimmying. I’m still not sure why, I think it was a competition of some sort, though the outcome was not clear. At any rate, welcome to Pig Ate My Pizza, the best pizza shop some people will never love* but it’s ok because I do. This was my third trip to the restaurant that’s not trying to be like the other pizza spots. Each time I left full and happy. The menu rotates, but my last trip we had the Tijuana Tina. If my memory serves me, the toppings included pulled pork, micro cilantro, tomatillos, pickled coriander and more. It was served with two sides… a fresh green salsa and a lime cream sauce. These were not extraneous — they truly added to the experience of the TT pizza. We started our meal with the tater tots they serve, which are more like mashed potatoes mixed with wonderful things and then turned into tot shaped food. Ours were served with a sweet homemade ketchup and a hot sauce. We finished the meal with chess pie, a southern dessert which was served hot in a mini skillet(yum) and a «sample» of the peanut butter Sriracha soft serve our chef/server brought to me when he saw my eyes light up at its mere mention. Previous visits we had the Piggy Pie(I think it’s being retired for a while, but it was loaded with pork product meats), salad, burrata(best burrata I’ve had), a potato leek soup that was truly the most amazing soup I’ve tried in ages, a margarita pizza and the Thome Chong, which was served… under a dome of smoke. For real. The people who serve your food are the same ones who make it, and you can tell they take pride in what they’re creating when they deliver it to the table and explain the ingredients and preparation. If you like chef-driven, inventive pizzas and sides served alongside a good rotating supply of craft beers, make the trek out to Robbinsdale for Pig Ate My Pizza. * Now, to be honest, not everyone is going to love Pig Ate My Pizza like I do. While I will describe it as intimate, lively, creative and a tad cheeky, others might find it small and loud, and will dislike sitting at community tables next to people they’ve probably never met. They’ll find the service is not like at your regular suburban joint. The pizza is not going to at all resemble what you’ll find at the likes of Pizza Ranch or whatever pizza you’re used to, so if that’s what you want you’ll be disappointed. That’s ok, though — we can embrace our differences from different pizza restaurants.

The world’s most delicious, chewy crust; imaginative and DELICIOUS flavor combinations; and incredible, no-frills atmosphere. Michelle, Mandy, James and Flacco were top-notch with the service, natch. We’ve been here for the holiday parties, the date nights, and the weeknight celebrations for the kid’s report card. Every single pie gets the same reaction: «Oh, dear GOD, that’s incredible.» We live less than a mile away, and we can’t seem to get outside of Birdtown for an incredible dining experience — and when it’s a top 10 pizza place in America via TIME Magazine). why bother trying? We had heard good things from some of our younger(30ish) friends about Pig At My Pizza so we decide to give it a shot. I always read reviews on Unilocal before I go somewhere new and anytime I see reviews all over the map I just have to see for myself. Here’s the deal with this place, its different — Its loud and decorated strangely, the wait staff looks like they just broke out of prison bus. You sit at tables with 20 or 30 of your closest strangers and stare at the half erased chalkboard menu wondering what the hell are you gonna gamble on. Definitely a product of the generation after my wife and I, although I’m pretty sure our 18 — 21 year old kids wouldn’t like it either. A tip if you are going to try this place — and I do say give it try because it really is different. In order to get seated, arrive 15 minutes before they open and wait in the back parking lot until they unlock the door. You will know this is about to happen when the entire waitstaff stops smoking cigarettes outside the service entrance and returns to the restaurant. I get it everyone is hungry for something new in terms of a pizza restaurant but this place isn’t for me — the atmosphere is strangely fun but I’m not sure why, the service is awful and quite frankly the pizza is terrible. We ate with another couple and we all tried the«specialty» pizzas. We ordered them at the same time but each one came out approx 5 minutes apart which obviously is a challenge when dining with friends. Only one of the pizzas we were served remotely resembled the pictures we saw posted on Unilocal.Additionally, each pizza was cooked differently(ranging from just slightly above warmed up to what I consider burnt). Maybe I am old school when it comes to pizza, but none of the flavors worked together on any of the 4 pizzas we ordered.(Smokey the Brisket, Piggy Pie, Hawaiian and Cuban) The price was on the higher end but not outrageous. We were one of the first groups seated and our order was most likely put in first for the evening. I could see from some of the other pizzas that were served around us that most of them looked far more appetizing than ours did, so I think I am going to try this place again, maybe for take out but stick to the old classics like sausage pepperoni mushrooms etc… When we left we noticed the wait appeared to be quite long. I would have been even more disappointed if I had to wait an hour for a table.

Normally, I am the last person on the planet to leave a 1 star review. Typically 4 – 5 stars. Part of this might be my bad on expectations, but still… So we(my family of 4, with 2 boys who are 9 and 7 yrs old) got to the restaurant approximately 7pm. In hindsight, I wish I would have timed it. No… I don’t… I’d just be more frustrated. Anyway, if what you enjoy is a semi free for all, first come, first served to yell at the bartender who isn’t really paying attention and doesn’t seem to care atmosphere to get the privilege of putting your name on the waiting list, then this is your place. People roll in after you, and whomever flags the bartender first seems to win. So that got us off to a great start. I managed to get a couple of beers for my wife and I, and the kids did a great job of waiting patiently and playing games on the phone, etc. We were told about 40 minutes. Again, should have started a timer. The kids are going nuts and I’m done with my beer about 7:45, and I give the«we are paying our tab and leaving in 5 minutes warning»(I really think we got there before 7, again, wasn’t tracking). They manage to seat us just in time. So we get seated. Order some drinks and an appetizer. It’s now around 8pm. Get that stuff in a reasonable time, but they don’t bother to take our dinner order. That doesn’t happen until maybe 8:15 or later. My kids are doing great, considering — we had them snack before leaving, but they are getting hungry, and when the apps show up, they don’t really like them(and they are not all that picky). So we wait and have a nice conversation with the folks sitting next to us. They were seated at the same time, and were on roughly the same schedule, except got their order in a little faster. They get their dinner. We are anticipating ours. Then the server shows up and says they had a mix up and didn’t get our order in. It’s now about 8:45(my son has been timing it since we sat down). So they offer to bring us some more appetizers, and even land on some bread that wasn’t on the menu to help appease the kids. Appreciated. Thank you. Instead of doing what I would think would be common sense, and shifting some things in the kitchen, they proceed to bring 2 or 3 of the same pizzas we ordered to other tables around us. In many cases, these people were seated AFTER we got our appetizers. Now, I’ve never managed a kitchen, so I don’t know what the«best practice» is, but I’d say generally the best practice is «don’t piss off people so bad they leave a flaming 1 star review on Unilocal». I digress… sorry. So they apparently bake the pizzas in the exact order they were received, with no deviation, and no common sense applied. We finally get our pizza around 9:15 or so, and it was good. The people next to us had paid their bill and were long gone before we finished. When they brought the bill, they at least had the decency to comp the pizza without a fight. Oh, and I forgot to mention — they even screwed up the pizzas and brought us a cheese pizza when we ordered a pepperoni. So in summary, the pizza was good. I appreciate not having to haggle over the bill. But the service, management, and general experience was so awful that I will never return. Your money is much better spent at Black Sheep or any other pizza joint in town. Maybe they will turn around their operations, but there are literally a hundred other restaurants I could go to instead.

Delicious! We ordered the ‘Hot Gandhi’ and ‘Smokey the Brisket’ pizzas — both very different and very delicious. I would favor the Brisket one for the creamy garlic sauce, but the ‘Hot Gandhi’ pizza’s distinctly tikka masala flavor with mint chutney was a welcome novelty. The place was packed on Saturday night but parking was quick and easy, and although we were told it would be a 45min. wait, we were seated in 15 min. Service was nice as well. We’ll be going again!

I’ve been wanting to try Pig Ate My Pizza for a long time and finally got the chance a few weeks ago with a group of girlfriends. First of all, we probably chose the worst time to go(6:30 pm on a Saturday). We had to wait about an hour for a table, but by the time we were seated the restaurant was pretty much cleared out. So, I’d recommend going early or waiting until after 7, especially on the weekend. The atmosphere here is great. A few people mentioned that they didn’t like the shared tables, but I didn’t really mind. We ordered almost everything on the menu to share. We started with an appetizer that was like tater tots filled with bacon, I can’t remember what it was called but it was delicious and came out so hot, I burned the roof of my mouth. We tried at least five different pizza flavors. I know it is boring, but I really enjoyed the margherita. We also had the Piggy Pie, Diana Ross and a sausage and mushroom. Everything was delicious. I would definitely go back. The wait staff is entertaining and even had a beer drinking contest at the end, which a few of my friends decided to partake in :) Overall, a great experience.

Piggy pie is a must have if its your first time here. Burrata was a unique favor experience. Mushroom pizza(Boomtown) was very good too(could have been a bit more moist) ! Chess pie(dessert) was an endless wait, but our waiter Flaco comped it and offered soft serve ice cream to make up for her wait! And when Chess pie arrived it was a masterpiece. Service here is impeccable. Food a heavenly delight. Definitely worth driving 30 miles drive to this place … Awesomeeeeeemo PAMP

Great dining experience. We were disappointed to learn the legendary tasting menu is no more(you’ll have to head down the street to Travail for that) but we did our best to make our own anyway by ordering their top notch charcuterie plate. Of course, we got the pizza too which was delicious. This is chef driven pizza served in a casual atmosphere. You’ll find that no are reservations allowed, you may sit next to strangers, and the wait staff is drinking alongside the crowded bar patrons. It’s loud and crazy in there, so grab a beer and take it all in.

I gave this place 4 stars because the seating is terrible. My boyfriend and I were seated awkwardly next to other people, because they have communal long tables. So there really isn’t room to move around. You can’t talk quietly because everyone around you is talking over each other. You might as well get to know your neighbor and share some food too. Other than that, food was delicious. Servers were very nice. They forgot to make our Pork Nugs, but we’re nice enough to make it and take it off of our bill. We would definitely go back and try other menu items. I ordered the Pork Nugs as an appetizer, super delicious. Big slices of pork drenched in a honey type of sauce. For the pizza, we wanted to try a regular pizza and a crafted pizza. We ordered the regular sausage pizza. It was decent just like any other sausage pizza. We also ordered the Morning Maple(maple, pickle egg, bacon) pizza as our crafted pizza. This pizza is delicious! Worth the money! It also went well with our Pork Nugs.

Well the pizza here is really yummy. I see why it is so popular, and I certainly would go back. That said, there were parts of this dining experience that were a little less than exciting to me. I suspect this may be personal preference — I would bet(and I can see) that others love it. So we arrived and were immediately enamored with the pink pig sculptures out front. Upon entering(note, the entrance is on the other side from where the pigs are), we were greeted by a harried young man. Upon informing him that there were four of us, he looked around and told us it would be a 20 minute wait. It really wasn’t that busy. But then I realized that this is the type of place with big long tables where they seat you next to strangers… ehhhh, not my favorite. We WERE impressed with the beer list, upon which our beer snobby crowd easily found several things that met our standards. Upon being seated, we ordered a round, and my friend was brought the wrong beer — unfortunate for sure since it was a bottled beer that runs about $ 10. To his credit, our server didn’t blink an eye and brought the correct beer when we informed him. When one of our group asked for a glass(seriously, they don’t just bring a glass with a bottled beer?), a pint glass was produced, even though a more correct glass for that beer would have been a tulip. I know — for those of you who aren’t beer drinkers — I am sure this seems really stupid and petty. But it’s important, and it’s just a choice since we saw other beers being served in tulip glasses. Moving on, the menu for the day is written on the chalk boards lining the walls. That’s cool, but also makes it kind of hard to figure out what you want without craning your head around for awhile. If you have bad vision, bring your glasses. I ordered the Dave’s BLT pizza, which has bacon and tomato… my husband ordered the pizza with the mushrooms on it, can’t remember the name. But it was full of really amazing mushrooms. Great ingredients. The pizzas here are about 10 inches, plenty to share or enough for you to polish off by yourself if you’re pretty hungry. The pizzas are coal-fired and really toothsome and thick enough without being overly doughy. Really very good pizza. Everyone was very pleased with what they got. We did not partake in any of the appetizers but I got the impression that they change daily and that there is a salad of the day type option served family style. Our server was good — answered all of our questions and was very accommodating, including taking care of the snafu with the beer. So I guess in the end I felt like the food is definitely worth the hype but it just wasn’t the type of place where I like to eat a whole lot. I don’t like being crammed in with strangers. I don’t like places where it’s so loud that you have to shout to be heard by people you are sitting next to. Oh, and I thought it was kind of ridiculous that the staff kept shouting whenever someone(including one of them) ordered or finished a boot of beer. Nothing else in this place was German themed at all, so the«oy! oy! oy!» shouting was out of place and annoying. Also, I don’t like places where the staff is openly drinking on the job. Just me. But I found it pretty off-putting.

This place is legit. We had a bigger group so we got to sit in the«hot tub» which isn’t really a hot tub. I can’t explain what it actually is — just go and you’ll see what I mean. Oh, man. The PIZZAS! I loved them all. There were seven of us and we each ordered our own pie and shared slices. The Piggy Pie one came out on this thick brioche crust, all the others were thin crust. I ordered the Thome Chong. It’s smoked with brisket and other things I can’t remember on it. It came out covered in a dome. You could totally taste the smoky flavor. It ended up not being my favorite, but I’m super glad I tried it. It was a fun experience! Have your camera at the ready — that smoke vanishes fast. My friend ordered the Bay of Pigs which is like a Cuban sandwich pizza. I thought I’d hate it since I’m not a fan of pickles, but I actually loved it! It came in as my second fave. Hands down, my favorite was the Colonel Peppers. It was spicy goodness with green leafy goodness on top. Luckily, the person that ordered that one was all about sharing. Desserts looked fab, but I’m not a sweets person so I skipped. I had a bite of something that came out in a mini cast iron skillet that was terrific and adorable!

Yup, this was great. We went as a party of 7 and got to sit in the hot tub, which isn’t really a hot tub but a circular table up in a platform. It was cool, unless you are in the middle and have to go to the bathroom, then everyone has to shuffle to get out. Everyone on Unilocal talks about the tasting menu, but we asked, and I guess they don’t do that anymore. So we each ordered our own pizza and people swapped pieces so everyone got to try other flavors. I ordered the cuban pizza(can’t remember the actual name) and it was delicious. My other favorite was the chicken pepper one, and third would be the Tommy Chong with the smoke coming out. They are all thin crust, which I liked a lot. The peanut butter pie for dessert was good but not wonderful, but I have high expectations when it comes to dessert. I would give it the extra star if they served actual drinks, not just beer and wine. Also the pie was disappointing and so was the lack of the tasting menu. The service was good, a bunch of laid back guys. They took a while to get the bills to us at the end but other than that it was a good experience. I don’t know if I’d drive all the way back out again for it, but it’s definitely worth stopping in at least once!

This is such a well reviewed place that I had to give them a shot. I arrived about 7:15 on a Wednesday when the temperature outside was barely above zero and still waited more than a half-hour for a seat at a communal table. I had time to read a bunch of the reviews and saw how many people pitched a bitch over the communal table issue. I also saw complaints about the volume of the music, how much fun the staff seemed to be having and the unusual pizza creations they are serving. Newsflash… this ain’t Pizza Slut! If you want a chain restaurant pizza experience… wait for it… wait for it… go to a chain restaurant! If you are young(or even young at heart) and a little bit adventurous you should probably come here instead. Ben was playing host, bartender and also waiter on the night of my visit. We were both amused by the relative novelty of running into another Ben and got along famously. He was most certainly knowledgeable about their offerings and it made it a lot easier for me to zero in on what I wanted for dinner. I felt like having a local beer but I’m really not a beer drinker these days so I asked for a recommendation. He asked what other beers I like and then selected the Excelsior Brown for me. I suppose it was probably an ale — not really sure but it did go well with both the appetizer and the pizza so I would call it a successful selection — thanks Ben! When I was seated at a communal table I was immediately taken in by the delicious smell emanating from the not-quite-finished order of mussels the women across the table from me had ordered and knew instantly what I was having as an appetizer. They showed up complete with slices of Serrano peppers and a tomato-based broth that included finely diced pieces of smoked pork belly and onions. The broth complemented well as it neither faded into the background nor overpowered the shellfish. There were three pieces of crostini that appeared with the dish and I would almost swear that the last one tasted like it was made from a cinnamon bagel. Great appetizer and not so big that it filled me up before the pizza arrived. I was interested in unusual but not weird for my pizza. Ben told me a bit about something called their Thome Chong smoked pizza. It is brought to the table in a cake dome full of smoke which is removed only after it is set in front of you so that you can get a big whiff of the mixed hardwood smoke they are using in their in-house smoker. I smoke a lot of food at home so the idea of a what was basically a smoked pizza appealed to me immediately. It is topped with smoked brisket, smoked provolone with charred onions, a subtle but very savory horseradish cream sauce, some sort of honey-based spritz and crushed sage. There were a couple of other ingredients thrown in also but they seemed to be minor players. At first glance, that looks like too many ingredients to be any good but they all work together really well. This is a very complicated pie and a great example of how first impressions can be wrong. First impressions, maybe. First bites, rarely. This is one really unique and amazing creation. No dessert — not that it wasn’t offered but I was ready to roll myself back to my hotel room to sleep off this feast. Packing can wait… I’m stuffed and very happy tonight!
