If I could give no stars I would! Service wasn’t bad on the servers behalf, but the MANAGERS! Took like 20 – 30 mins to give me a Michelada on top of that charging me $ 7.95 for the Michelada and $ 3.95 for the beer uh? What? What am I paying for when I pay $ 7.95? It tasted like crap!!! And I got basically charged $ 7.95 for tomato juice with no spices, it was horrible, I couldn’t even drink it. I get that this is the east Coast and that’s not a very popular drink but if u can’t make it don’t say u can have me waiting for 30 mins then have the audacity to not take it off!!! And he was too busy being a gossip queen, must be the son of the owners I’ve seen this happen plenty of times, they let there kids run the restaurant and it’s straight crap, they have no actual experience in the restaurant industry. Sad sad. Food is decent. I ordered spinach enchiladas, told it came with a sour cream sauce on top, didn’t get it. Rice, a little over cooked. Beans, meh okay. Then there was this nasty weird cream on top, looked like a melted white crayon on top. It was killing my vibe a bit. I refuse to help these types of establishments to succeed if they don’t want to give the customer a good experience. We are why they are open. Never setting foot in the establishment again. Management has to go.

Many reviews on here are terrible, but honestly this is not a bad restaurant. Typical Mexican food at a decent price. The atmosphere is lovely, especially the porch seating. I’ll agree that the salsa is sweeter than I’m use to but not bad.

To the owner: We have loved coming to this restaurant for good Mexican food in Roanoke. Well, the management and wait staff have become such a disappointment. There was definitely plenty of staff around, however no one was working. Even the a manager was socializing behind the bar. Everything took forever, even getting water which was frustrating since we had 4 kids with us. Our tableside guacamole, which is our favorite part of your restaurant, was made so spicy our kids could not eat it. Roanoke is a small town and if you don’t take care of your business it will be gone. We hope you make some staffing changes to improve your restaurant.

So i was in the area and pretty hungry so I decided to try this place, it did have a 2.5 on Unilocal but there was plenty of cars in the lot so I figured it would be OK. I can echo the fact that the salsa was terrible and you get a little ranch type sauce for dipping. I had a California Burrito, I have had a whole lot better at much less cost. As a consolidation prize you get a Disneyland type interior, maybe that appeals to some people. I have learned my lesson, wont make this mistake again.

The salsa tastes like marinara sauce. Seriously? Ewh. The white sauce they give you — also nasty. Our waiter said nobody likes it. Why keep serving it? It tasted like watery ranch dressing. The ground meat in my enchilada was so gross I couldn’t eat it. The first bite was a chunk of gristle. I ordered a jumbo margarita. It was $ 8.25 and seemed to have no alcohol in it. Another member in our party got the small margarita. It seemed to be pure tequila and it was for an old lady! If you can’t get salsa right, I mean, how hard is that? Just buy some from the grocery store. Don’t waste your money in this place. The wait staff is nice and nice décor, but the food is gross!

If it was possible to leave a half star and a straw I would. Everything was delivered to the table a cold, soupy mess. The order was messed up twice. The waitstaff didn’t seem to care. Skip this place unless you don’t care about your health. Restaurant Impossible needs to visit this place! … UPDATE: I WASUPALLNIGHTWITHFOODPOSOINING. Plan to report this restarant. Thanks for ruining my vacation plans Rancho!

Salsa gets a 1 out if 10. Tastes like ketchup and consistency of salsa from a jar. The sweet white sauce was ok. Meal was good but not hot. Service was great, décor was nice. Think I’ll try somewhere else next time.

MMmmmmmm, I’ve always loved this place and now that I’ve moved away I try to come every time I come back to Roanoke for a visit. LOVE the white sauce! I prefer this location because I like this side of Roanoke and it has plenty of parking and space inside. Service was prompt and my food was good.

I know I have spent 32 years between Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco but this is really disappointing. Cheese enchiladas tasteless… refried beans Mushy and bland… «Hamburger» taco was awful. I would have done better going to Taco Bell. I miss the true Mexican food!

Will never go there again! My daughter went there early Friday evening 8÷9÷13, and was charged $ 20.11 for a meal that was supposed to cost less than $ 8.00. When the waiter refused to correct the bill, she asked to speak to the manager. He would not even come to the table! This restaurant will be reported to the Better Business Bureau for overcharging as well as another infraction that I suppose they are already aware of.

Huge margaritas and very good burritos. I enjoyed this eatery and thought that it was a close third to some of the best places I frequent in California. The fajita burrito was very flavorful. The margaritas were very good, but a little too salty for my liking. A fun atmosphere and endless chips, what more do you want?

This place will do you up just fine if you are looking for some decent Mexican food and a margarita or two. The high point for this place, though, is when they have a Mariachi band in to play. The bands my wife and I have seen there were good to excellent, and the music really added to our dinner experience. We also went with some friends for Cinco de Mayo, and had a good time. We had to wait a while for our table, and the waiters were so swamped they were pretty much out of control most of the evening, but Hernan(our waiter) eventually managed to get things on track for us and we had a good time. For dinner and a margarita, Ranch Viejo is our default spot in Roanoke.

This is the best Mexican food in Roanoke… As far as Mexican vegetarian options that are actually made well, this is the place. The fajita vegetables are never almost raw like most places around here. They also don’t charge you extra for subbing veggies in a California burrito unlike every other Mexican place here.(Which makes no sense to me what-so-ever) Their salsa does not taste like pizza sauce like I’ve found at many other places around here.(Aside from Alejandros– their dips are awesome) The service is always prompt, although it is hard to get across what you’re trying to order sometimes due to language barriers.

None of the Mexican options in Roanoke are particularly memorable. However, I have to be honest here. How many people are really looking for good Mexican food vs. something to soak up the margaritas and cervezas? Ok… maybe it’s just me. I went with the«Texas» salad. Don’t judge me… I was planning a meatatarian weekend. The«Texas» salad was shrimp and chicken on top of lettuce, peppers, and onions. It tasted alright although I preferred to use the chips salsa and other dipping sauce instead of the ranch dressing. The chips were pretty good and the salsa wasn’t a runny mess that I’m used to at other places. There was also a second sauce that seemed like a sweet ranch that was oddly addicting. We went on a Thursday and enjoyed 2 dollar imported bottles. Service wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great either. We had to repeat our orders a couple of times(which I don’t mind), but then our orders still came out with errors. Décor is pretty nice. This place is a decent option if you’re looking for somewhere to eat dinner and is close by to Tanglewood Mall.

Another bad ‘mexican’ restaurant story. The food is greasy, the service poor, and for what you get its highway robbery. I am not kidding when I say this but EVERY time I get dragged there by a friend or associate, I get the worst service out of any restaurant in Roanoke(a friend of mine had a food fiasco there). As I have said before, why do these places stay in business and El Palenque disappears? Why can’t I find a good mexican restaurant? Can someone please help me!!! If you really love good authentic food stay the heck away from this place.

I liked this place for the two person fajitas, and I didn’t have any service problems like the other reviewers. I would definitely go back whenever I want fajitas.

This might look like tourist Mexico. But it does NOT taste like it. greasy greasy greasy greasy. Oh, and the service is slow. Can we not get a mexican restaurant that actually TASTES good in Roanoke!!! The answer seems to be a resounding NO. It makes me glad I don’t live there anymore.

These folks spent a lot of money remodeling this property, and the restaurant looks great. The food, when it finally comes, is good. Unfortunately, the service is not up to par. My family met another family here for lunch after church yesterday. Unfortunately, service was extremely slow and our food came out in three rounds. The server blamed us for asking for separate checks. This is the second time this has happened to us here, and we likely will not return. El Rodeo is just up the road — pass Rancho by and head to El Rodeo!
