A very interesting experience! I will say up front that it has ended with semi beautiful custom cabinets installed not even close to what we asked for. I thought I was the first review but as it appears there is one other under the not recommended section below. Not sure if its good or bad that I didn’t see it until after but thank goodness we actually got our cabinets. If I had seen the other review tho, he wouldn’t of been given our business. Here were the issues. First, we warned George Fuston when he came to give us a bid that the house is old and that no two rooms were made at the same time, leaving very odd shapes and height differences. We wanted custom made cabinets for one entire wall and pointed out how narrow the hall is, how short the doors are and how uneven the walls themselves are to the point that one corner is slightly shorter then the other. He assured us that none of this would be a problem. He took his measurements and said he would bring what he needed, in pieces, to accommodate for the narrow hallways and assemble them inside the room. We received many bids and decided on G & L Cabinets because his prices are very reasonable. He also has a great website showing his work.(After comparing my pictures to his, it makes me wonder if the ones on his web site are actually his work. Check it out to decide for yourself.) When he arrived, he brought two very large pieces that didnt fit thru the doors. He ended up having to cut one of the pieces twice before they could get it into the room. Some of his comments, altho a bit funny were also very unprofessional and outright rude. He complained that the doors were not standard height then at one point blamed my sheets that I had down on the floor to keep the tile from being scratched as reasons why he couldn’t fit the pieces thru the doorway. In the meantime they scratched two freshly painted walls, put a ding in a door frame and literally bent our bathroom door hinge to the point the door does not close.(A brand new door we installed ourselves just before the paint.) When the cabinets were up they did not center on the wall the same way they did in his plans or in what we asked for.(Pictures attached) When I asked him why, he tried to blame the wall for being uneven, I referred to the measurements he took himself which should show exactly what is needed right? Measurements are part of Math and Math is a constant, yet, his response was, the measurements he took and plans he drew up were only«if we lived in a perfect world.» He also had a rude comment when I asked him for the fourth time to please keep my front doors closed as if I owed him some sort of an explanation for why, how about because its my house, I wasn’t born in a barn and I said so. What I did say after already explaining that I have an inside kitten was that I want both of the doors closed. Period. I’m not sure I should have to explain my reasons at all but there is also the obvious issue of keeping flies out of the house. I’m certain he doesn’t keep his own doors wide open at his home but he was quite put out at having to keep them closed at mine. He ended up having to come back again to finish because he had to account for the prior cuts he had made to fit them into the room. When I showed him the damage, he tried to say the door wasn’t him several times before apologizing and that was only after he realized we were not intending to make him pay for it or fix it but wanted to make him aware. We would have asked him to fix it but my husband decided he better do it himself or risk even further damage. End result here, if you can handle the horrible customer service and risk of damage to your home then this is the perfect place for some mediocre cabinets at a bit of a savings. Had he been more polite, not caused so much damage and actually made what we asked for without so many mistakes, I would of given him 5 stars. I’d suggest checking out the other review under the not recommended area because we also had to put 50% as a down payment. Something we have never had to do before and I was not comfortable with at all. We ended up doing it anyway and thank goodness it worked out well. It didn’t for this other Unilocaler tho so beware of huge jobs and paying too much up front. Update. One thing I didn’t mention was that the drawers did not line up with the cabinet frame properly. He said he could fix it easily and then was able to fix all of them but one, which was fairly close, so we decided good enough. Now, after hardly using the drawers yet, they are back to being misaligned. My husband said from the start it could be fixed by shimming the wall but George took the easy way out after saying he shimmed as much as he could and now we have been left with a mess to figure out. The old adage is true, you get what you pay for except that we paid way too much for the amount of problems we have had. Do yourself a favor and pay a little extra for a real professional.
