I had the turkey sandwich, I didn’t find anything unique about it. It didn’t taste great, it didn’t taste bad. The guy at the counter seemed as though he wanted to be at home playing warcraft. In sum, I was expecting something more tasty after seeing an average of 4 stars. Next time I want a sanwhich, I’ll hit simple simons back up or simply make it myself…

Great food but they’re beyond slow. Be sure to call in your order if you’re on a work lunch break.

Classic big deli sandwich flavor, with oil and vinegar, finely shredded lettuce, fresh tomato, pickles, the works. Try the spicy capicola. They are big sandwiches, but I manage to eat a foot long every time. This is another landmark in Riverside that is cherished by locals.

Without fail, Butch’s Grinders makes a perfectly made sandwich just the way you like it. The freshest ingredients are used and the hoagie rolls, the rye and the squaw bread are the best. They are generous on the meat, whatever sandwich you get.
There doesn’t seem to be a time that I’ve been there and there wasn’t a line. Although they’re always busy. The service is upbeat and fast. The dining room gets packed but there’s outdoor seating which is perfect for a typical Southern California day.
Don’t forget to try the chili!

Healthy fresh sandwiches, ww ordered a tuba, turkey w avocado, roast beef and each were delicious!!! Staff is very efficient.

I have been coming here for some years now, I normally get the Italian sub on wheat bread two types of meat, all the fixings. .but on this day I went with the egg salad sub which is also good and fresh on wheat roll. I was told that at times they have to make egg salad up to three times a day, I have been back since and gotten it again. The service is very friendly and helpful, will take the time to answer any questions on the menu, they do make some good Chile beans as well, inside dinner along with tables outside in the shade. Don’t forget to get your sandwich card punched, Overall a great place for a grinder they do have some combination special offers. Enjoy your meal..

So sandwiches are one of my favorite foods, and I feel so lucky to live in riverside where there are so many stellar options! I’ve actually never been to Butch’s until today, but I’m so glad I finally stopped in. I got a large cold turkey grinder to go. I’m eating it right now and I’m in heaven! Yes– I am literally typing this between bites. The bread is fresh and soft, and the seasoning is perfect. Simple, fresh, delicious. I love that they use white onions and that they are sliced so thin. The price is right, too– my large sub was only like $ 7. I can’t wait to go back and try something else!

The sandwiches are delicious. For the most part the people who work there were nice. Could give a little more avacado! Squaw bread was amazing!

Got the honey BBQ sandwich with a side of chips. Pretty good sandwich. Good mix of BBQ sauce and the bread roll was soft and fresh. If you are coming here for lunch try to beat the lunch crowd because it can get pretty crowded. Will have to try this place again when I’m in the area.

Great sandwiches! The turkey and Swiss with avocado on squaw is the best sandwich ever! I love to eat at the sandwich shop whenever I am in downtown Riverside!

Located in a neighborhood of apartments, graveyard, and the like in Downtown Riverside is where Butch’s is. It is a family owned business that’s been around for about 3 decades, if it’s been around that long you know there doing something right. I’ve been here several times, and their sandwiches were good. I came here today around lunch time, while the others here have suggested to call in their orders it really wasn’t all that busy.
They don’t have a website which is a bummer. You won’t get a menu from them if you ask, you’ll find it on their Instagram or on here. It’s advised and highly suggested that you call in your orders, so you don’t have to wait. As far as my experiences go, they’ve been pleasant and I’ve never had any issues. Then again, I am rarely in that part of the city to come here often. Give them a try, you may end up liking their sandwiches. I forgot to mention that they have a lot of drinks and chips to go along with your sandwich too! lol

Was there for lunch yesterday Thurs. Ordered 8″ hot ham Sandwich with everything on it and a side pickle. Within an hour of eating it, didn’t have anything else, I was running to the bathroom, still suffering.
Will be awhile before I come back as everyone keeps saying what a great place this is. Maybe will stick to cold Sandwich.

So in my search for the best sandwiches in Riverside I have tried many different places before I came upon Butch’s Grinders off of Pine in Rivedside.
When you first look at it from the outside you think hmmm should I risk it. It’s in what looks to be an old gas station nestled In A dilapidated strip center. Even though it looks rough from the outside I decide to give it a try today. And I’m glad I did!
When I first walked in it was around 1:00pm and it was PACKED! Wow. So I got in line and ordered a 6″ grinder with turkey and swiss on white. Ended up getting the combo with drinks and chips.
Then they hand you a number and tell you to pay when its ready. Then you stand and can watch them making your sandwich fresh to order. Took about 10 minutes to get the sandwich and I was ready to go.
Now about the sandwich. The bread was just the way I like it! It was so fresh and soft! The turkey was also fresh cut and it was drizzled with Italian dressing on top of lettuce and tomato. it was gone in 60 seconds! So good!
The service was great! The people that worked there were friendly and helpful. it was all around a great experience.
So if you are looking for great sandwich in Riverside, you have to try Butch’s Grinders!

My family loves this place. I grew up on Butch’s Grinders in Fontana many years ago when I was a kid. It closed when I was in my twenties and honesty everyone mourned when that happened, (it’s a Fontana thing). Just found out there’s one in Riverside and of course I had to go try it for myself. It was like my childhood had return from the past.
Absolutely the same taste as before just like I remember. We come here 1 – 2 times a week now. Food is delicious and the staff are super cool and polite.

My husband and I only get the turkey and avocado sandwiches to go and we are obsessed. Whenever we visit his dad in Riverside, we come here. They have the softest squaw bread for this sandwich and they will not tell anyone where they get it from. It’s delivered fresh every morning. The portion is big and I usually eat it in two sittings. It’s sat overnight in my fridge and been just as good the next day!
I can’t speak for dining in, drink or chip prices, or the service, but I know this is the best sandwich.

So I’ve said it before people, and I’ll keep saying until we all get it right.

4 star average, really people? If we pay good money for our Hotels/​Restaurants/​fill-​in-​the-​blank-​here place, set the bar higher.
My rule is, if I can make it better at home, you’re not trying hard enough. That’s why we go out and PAY OUR GOOD MONEY to enjoy an outing.

Butch’s is off the beaten path, but I like local, out of the way places. Sometimes they pay off. My son ordered the turkey, I had the pastrami. On both counts, the sandwiches were good, but the meat was stingy. And I can see why people are commenting about the staff. In my case, nothing rude, but they didn’t seem to be very happy.

Always a goto when in the IE simple and straight to the point good bread great meat and one of the best pickles I’ve had I always get the same thing a turkey with avocado huge slices of avocado lots of turkey with that shredded lettuce can’t go wrong with a grinder!!!

Probably one of the best Pastrami sandwiches I’ve ever had! It was massive and every bite was better than the last. Not only was it delicious, it was also reasonably priced!
The older woman who took my order was friendly and treated me as if I’ve been coming for years. I will definitely be coming back!

I didn’t notice what the difference from these subs to other subs was at first until I went out and ventured places like Subway again and took notice. These freaking subs are huge! Their produce is also very fresh. You can taste the freshness.
I decided on the «Turkey Avocado» on squaw bread based on other Unilocal recommendations. WOW that sub was delicioso!!! This is coming from a guy who always eats BLT’s on wheat! I ordered the #1 which included chips and a drink for just under $ 8. I highly recommend this sandwich to others.
Next time I’m craving a sub I think I will pick this place over others.
