While I’m not a trekky, I can appreciate good fanfare when I see it! The future birth place of Captain Kirk is ironically behind a hair salon — perhaps it’s why his hair remains priceless! There’s a tiny museum with a hand written sign out front and if you’re lucky enough to be around in late June, you can check out Trek fest — a festival to all things Star Trek. While small, it’s a mighty good time! Worth visiting regardless of where you’re from or what you’re doing. Nerds, Dorks and All other unite to pay homage at the future birthplace of the gentleman who now tells us how to save on hotels! More info —

Is this super cheesy? Yes. Is it hidden behind a hair salon with a ramshackle garage directly behind it? Yes. Did we make an hour long detour to come here? Yes. Do we have any regrets? Absolutely not! Kudos to Riverside for finding their niche and welcoming the nerds of the world into their town to see a tiny little sign and small«museum»(which is more or less just a decent sized collection of vintage Star Trek memorabilia). Returning to Riverside to go Trekfest is now on my husband’s bucket list and I enjoy our«Future Birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk» souvenir canvas tote bag.
