Down home cooking with a great selection of nightly specials that remain consistent. A perfect little diner with great charm. The waitresses are usually pretty on top of things and attentive.

Great food and excellent service! Everything you’d expect from a downtown diner and more. I got a kielbasa and eggs special and my wifey got the French toast. Service was fast and food was good! Definitely a good place to grab breakfast on your weekend down east. Would not recommend the home fries get French fries instead.

Wait staff was short today so waitress was a bit frazzled. What diner doesn’t have oatmeal or fruit!!! Omelet was good just had to wait a while for it. Coffee nice and hot bit in tiny cups, you would think that a bit larger cups would make it easier for staff.

Dear Owner of the Riverhead diner, For many years my family, friends and I have frequented your diner. In fact, I have sent so many new people from Westhampton. I am sorry to tell you that your daughter does not deserve to be in the restaurant business. She should be a telephone operator or a secretary, but never deal in customer service. On this day, I took my granddaughter in for lunch. I ordered a waffle and bacon. I’ve had delicious waffles many times in your diner, but this one was sour. I tried covering it with syrup, but it still left a horrible aftertaste. I asked my granddaughter how the waffle tastes and she said, oh my God, it’s sour! The waitress stopped at our table and asked how everything was. I told her about the waffle and she professionally said can I bring you anything else? I said I guess. maybe a short stack? I really was sort of nauseous at the time, so I wrapped it to take home. When I got the bill, the waffle AND the short stack were on it! I went to the desk and the woman there said she was the manager and the owners daughter and the waffle tasted fine! In restaurant 101, they teach you that the customer is always right about the taste of their food. The ‘daughter manager’ said, you ate half of it! I tried to eat all of it but couldn’t put up with the aftertaste! She said give me back the short stack and I won’t charge you for it! I did! She threw it away in front of me and charged me 4 dollars for the waffle. I would have paid 5.50 for the short stack! Stupid management, bad judgment, terrible customer service. What makes me most sad is your wait staff is wonderful, and a kid like this gives a place a bad name. Send her to work for Uncle Benny in the car business, just get her away from working with people.

While waiting for a court hearing I passed by this diner. Walked in and sat myself as per the instructions on a sign. Older sweet waitress helped me and pointed me in the direction of the hot open turkey. It was perfectly cooked and delightful. Plenty of gravy and nice lunch portion. Tab was $ 11.70 and I gave her a $ 20 and demanded she keep the change. She was very nice and overwhelmed with my generosity. It was nice to see someone who really appreciates a generous tip. I hopefully have no reason to be back in that area but if I am — I would definitely stop in for a bite.

I love this place, the food is really above average LI diner fare — which I mean as a true compliment. It’s hard to choose to come here because Star Confectionary is just up the street and the retro ambiance there is so cool. But if you really want to EAT, come here. One complaint — when I am in a diner, I want to be in a booth, not at a table. But again, if you’re more about the food, this is the place.

Great place to go for a «home-cooked» meal. The meatloaf and burgers and fries are great and the breakfast is also great. Stop in for the 2 for 1 burgers! My sister met her future husband here!

The cheese burger with sautéed onions was amazing. The wait staff was wonderfully friendly and attentive. A local dinner. If you’re looking for a friendly diner experience, this is the place.

Has good simple food, if you like goulash or pot roast you’ll love this place. Yes they serve other normal delights as well and the price is much cheaper than other places in the same area.

I liked this quaint little diner, had a bagel with eggs and sausage and some coffee. The staff was friendly and attentive enough. If you’re in the area and want to grab a quick bite I’d recommend this place.

We get there at 9am, peak breakfast time, when I saw the waitress with a puzzle tattoo on her arm, all I could think was ok if she is looking for that last piece to finish that puzzle she won’t find it if it’s on her arm. No bagels, toast was an afterthought with your breakfast. Waited for ever for them to ask us for more coffee or the check. Awful.awful.awful… Don’t bother…

I was in the area this evening, so my boyfriend and I decided we’d stop in for an early dinner as this place was a favorite of mine during my childhood. When we entered from the front door we didn’t quite know where to go or stand to be seated as there’s no designated spot to do so. We were waiting for a few minutes before somebody finally noticed us and told us to take a seat anywhere. Once we were seated, it was at least another 5 minutes until we even got a menu and then we waited once again for a little bit before a waitress came over to serve us. I’m used to good service so this was a bit of a turn off. However, the waitress was kind once the waitress confusion was solved. We both ordered the hot open turkey sandwiches. I ordered mine with mashed potatoes and string beans. The string beans were definitely canned and not fresh. Bleh. I know it’s not the season for fresh string beans, but you can still find fresh string beans at the supermarket. The mashed potatoes were ok, a bit too mushy and watery and bland. However, as an Irish girl I have very high expectations for mashed potatoes. The turkey was moist though the very thin slice of bread underneath was mush. The brown gravy was also too salty and as I never got a refill of water, I was left thirsty due to the extra salt. The prices are great especially compared to many of the overpriced restaurants in the area but I feel the quality is not up to par in comparison to some diners. Maybe some dishes are better than others but I was left wanting more. I’d also like to note that the owner seemed to be a bit agitated and at one point threw a spoon across the counter area. Not exactly welcoming.

If there were a «diner» category I’d give it 5 stars! This place serves consistently good authentic diner food. It is my favorite breakfast place anywhere. The breakfast sausage links are outstanding. I can’t tell you how many meals have been ruined by breakfast links dropped into a deep fryer and cooked until the casing peels back leaving an unappetizing tube of food. Their excellently cooked savory links burst with juicy flavor. The eggs have deep yellow yolks and have been cooked properly. Not rubberized, as at most places. I also recommend the hash. I’m sure the BLT, turkey club, roast beef with gravy also hit the mark. I know the liver with onions did!(Yes, liver and onions. Real mashed potatoes and gravy. Is there any place other than a good old diner to get that?) There is so much to be said for simple food cooked right. It’s nearly a thing of the past. This diner, right out of a late 1940’s film noir, has it.

I went here with my mom and dad after visiting the aquarium down the street. It was about 2 on the day after thanksgiving and there was only one other customer in there. It’s on the main street of the town so there are many different places nearby that we could go and do things. Our waiter was very friendly and we were quickly served. Definitely try the tuna melt, it was excellent. The milkshakes were quite good as well. The diner had a retro but homey vibe. It seemed like a great place to take families or to just have a casual meal. If you’re in the area, this is a great place to eat!

I have been going to this restaurant for over 25 years and I was so disappointed when I went recently, I had to write a review. I believe that it is under new management. The only positive thing I can say is that the service was just okay. The food was poor. I ordered a rare hamburger platter and stressed that it be rare. The meat was not rare, not tasty and the french fries were under cooked and the cole slaw was bland. The cost of an egg cream was $ 2.75 and it was served in a very small glass as were the sodas. This use to be a «go to place» for decent food at affordable prices. It is not that any longer.

The best corned beef hash ever! Seriously amazing. My family and I go every time we visit our relatives in Calverton because you can not get hash like that in the south. Can’t say much about the other food there since I ALWAYS get the corned beef hash! I also love the atmosphere. It’s a cozy, friendly place that is authentically retro, not one of those new diners playing up on feelings of nostalgia.
