I went here to get my annual eye exam. Although Dr. Stein is a nice man, the management at this place is absolutely horrible!!! Dr. Stein wrote me the WRONG prescription for eye glasses, and it wasn’t until I bought a new pair of glasses at a different store until I was able to notice. The Dr. was sympathetic but the two opticians were extremely unprofessional about the matter. They refused to reimburse me for the glasses I bought under the wrong prescription they gave me, they cursed and yelled over the phone saying that it «wasn’t their problem» and tried to convince me that I can still wear the glasses even though they were the wrong prescription and that my correct prescription just increased«clarity.» Absolutely unprofessional!!! I was out $ 300 because of a mistake that they had made and the Dr. admitted to after he corrected my prescription. The opticians are extremely uneducated and repeatedly tried to convince me the height of my glasses were off(only bifocals, which my glasses were not, can have a height issue). Do NOT go here if you want a smooth and friendly eye visit!

Thorough eye exam(for contacts) for $ 100. The equipment seems a little dated, but the exam was quick, effortless, and as pleasant as an eye exam could be. Definitely will be coming back.

Dr. Stein and his staff are simply amazing. They are all incredibly friendly and welcoming. Dr. Stein makes sure to address all your concerns with every visit and explains everything clearly. The young lady in the front desk was extremely helpful, she took the time to find out how much my insurance covered and helped me work everything out so my out of pocket expense was minimal. I highly recommend Dr. Stein.

In more than 27 years of wearing glasses and contacts I have had over a dozen eye exams. Never have I had to deal with the rudeness and ineptitude I encountered at this optician. Dr. Stein was meagerly sufficient, and his«receptionist» was combative and incompetent. I had a 1:30PM appointment, yet didn’t see the Dr. until 3PM(no explanation). Then I was told I would have to come back in 5 days for another«check» on contacts that were the same exact prescription and brand I have been wearing for 5 years. Upon mentioning that waiting 90 minutes to see the eye doctor was atrocious, and I certainly would not be coming back to wait another 90 minutes, Ms. Receptionist chose to attack and argue, rather than accept the facts. Throughout the entire time I waited, she spoke rudely to customers as well as to her coworker. Sadly, I am required to go back in for this unnecessary«re-check»(maybe that’s their way of over billing insurance companies) in order to have a valid prescription. I cannot wait to wash my hands of this entire business. After being verbally assaulted by that nasty grouch, then being held hostage for my prescription, I need a hot shower. I urge anyone thinking about going to this optician to look elsewhere immediately.

Got a very thorough eye exam by their resident optician for $ 50. My replacement lenses took a few days longer than they originally said(supposed to be ready next day), but they called when my glasses were ready which was helpful! Overall, I was happy with their service and would definitely use them again.

Dr. Stein is a very knowledgeable doctor. He guided me through the process and helped me choose the best contacts for condition. Kimberly is great too. She is the young lady who helped me make a great choice about my eyeglasses. She is knowledgable and very helpful. Patiences should be her middle name. I would recommend seeing her when you are looking for eyewear.

With a recent visit to NY I visited Ridgewood Opticians. My contacts didn’t Agree with me and my glasses… Well I don’t have a pair! They were so great, courteous and helpful. They helped me see again in no time. I highly recommend them! See you guys next time!

I’ve been coming to Ridgewood Opticians for years now and I just don’t understand the rude reviews below. Frankly, I’ve been amazed that some of the customers that I’ve seen there are given even an ounce of respect by the staff. During my most recent visit to order contacts a woman allowed her 4 children to create a mess and did not once try to stop them, then proceeds to walk out of the store without cleaning up all the garbage they threw on the floor. If I worked there, there’s no way I would have politely handled anything that crass from a customer, yet the staff there just shrugged and straightened the place up. I’ve never had a problem with anyone that works there nor is anyone«ghetto». I’ve always been given exceptional service and any time I’ve had a problem with my glasses, I bring it back and one of the girls will fix it if possible. They are all very knowledgeable and take the time to explain what kind of lenses are the best for my vision. Never has anyone tried to push anything on me that I did not need, I always leave there with amazing glasses and contact lenses at a great price. The doctor is nice as well, although he repeats himself a lot. One of the girls always ensures that he has covered everything with me and that my exam was up to par. I’ve referred many people here and they’ve all had nothing but great things to say. Definitely a great business!

No stars. DONOTGOHERE. If you hate your damn job so much– QUIT! Certain people do not deserve to have jobs and that goes to the«receptionist» or whatever she is that so rudely handles patients. I first came here– because my union works with this office. So this is where I was sent. My first reaction upon arriving was that this place desperately is need of a renovation. I just don’t understand how some businesses can care so little about the way their businesses look to their customers. The place needs a serious renovation as its stuck in the 80’s– along with the receptionist who is RUDE, GHETTO, has no customer skills and seriously needs to learn how to handle the doctor’s patients. Because in all reality the only reason you have a job is because people call to ask questions, because customers come in for exams and buy lenses– if you hate answering questions and handling customers– QUIT! I came late January to have a contact exam that was $ 75.00 I was given a trial. I have worn Accuve lenses before and I told the doctor too. For years at that from my other optometrist but i understand he wanted me to run a trial to see how they felt. He said to come back in a week– which I didn’t– I already wear glasses and ive used the lenses before but figured I would buy contacts again for backup. I did not return in a week and I called a a couple of months later. I explained to her the situation and she said I would have to pay another $ 20.00 for another trial pair– wear them another week and then order them. So I told her I’ve already worn the brand before can I just order. She was rude and frankly a SMART ass, she told me to go somewhere else and her tone was off putting and drove the conversation in the wrong direction– Rather than explain why it works the way it works she told me to go else where and then in exact words she said«so what you gonna do either pay the $ 20 or go somewhere else”— I wanted her to explain it but she was so irritated that she had to handle me so I called her funny and hung up… I felt like I was being challenged and provoked. I understand the policy and I should of came back sooner but there’s a way to say things… And not to send people away. For the most part every time I’ve called she just can’t wait to get rid of you. I already paid for the contact exam so to go somewhere else– seems like a waste of money. I asked her if there was anyway I could have my old optometrist call since I’ve worn the lenses before and that was my real issue– I just wanted to know if I could so something so I don’t have to pay for something I’ve worn many times. She treated me poorly and hung up on me twice**** forcing me to call back. I felt like I was fighting for answers. Complete waste of my time and at one point I apologized for letting her get the best of me and I told her I couldn’t believe how she talked to people– you would think she would bring herself down a notch but NO she continued to make a business matter completely personal– CUSTOMER comes first and in most businesses they teach you THECUSTOMER is always right and if you know they’re wrong — work with them find an answer or kindly explain why the policy is what it is– you don’t loose your cool and loose a customer over nonsense. Because you can’t take the time. I will never come back again– I will come to retrieve my lens prescription and order my contacts online & also make it my business to post this review everywhere I can. From an outside perspective the only reason why this receptionist behaves this way is because she knows she can get away with it– I’ve seen how she talks to the doctor. Who by the way is a really nice guy. At my work place we would never be allowed to talk to customers in the way I was spoken to no matter how ridiculous a question is or how annoying repeating myself is. Bottom line: don’t WASTE your money– all the optometrists on myrtle avenue charge basically the same for way better service and also better glasses– they don’t carry anything designer really. I was going to give it no stars but ill give it ONE star for the nice doctor who has to put up with his rude employee who drives away his customers. I am also calling my union office to file a complaint.

After our primary eye place stopped having Saturday appointments & my husband got transferred to another library branch, we found ourselves in need of a new optician. This place came up since it’s close to home & had Saturday appointments. It turns out they also offer contact lens exams for a reasonable price if your insurance refuses to cover it(like mine) & do have a better selection of free frames than I’ve seen anywhere else. For once, I was able to get a pair of glasses that didn’t make me envision my father in drag when I looked at myself in the mirror wearing them. I still have a serious anti-glasses bias but I do have to say the staff is friendly(they seemed concerned about my mending ankle & general state of being on crutches), the doctor is quite competent & my husband said he liked this place better than our last optician. This is also a place that strikes me as welcoming to all customers, not just those who look a certain way(as I have encountered with some local businesses). The hours are also realistic for working people. Oh, and you do have to look for it since it is kind of hidden in plain sight. We never noticed it ourselves until we went & we’ve been living here for quite some time now.

Great place to get an eye exam. They were quick and thorough. Only now I need glasses.
