The maple slab I bought from these guys was beautiful. price matched what I paid for hardwoods in various places in the NE. Visiting their yard was impressive to my client and I was in and out in 30 minutes. Will come back again.

My experience with Re-Co Brooklyn, particularly Dan, was stressful and disappointing from start to finish. I sought out Re-Co Brooklyn to build a custom coffee table. From the start, I found that their pricing was extremely inflated as compared to other custom quotes that I had found from different reclaimed wood workers. When I raised this concern to Dan, he was miraculously able to take nearly 30% off of the price of my piece. I still considered price to be too high, but I was assured that his customer service was what set him apart, and that he would do everything to ensure that the piece delivered to me was perfect. Because I had found a piece of wood in their inventory, which matched the size, shape and material that I was looking for, I decided to take a chance. Within 24 hours of paying my 50% deposit, I received a call from Dan that from the piece of wood I selected, he was not able to provide the outcome that we agreed upon. He proceeded to ask/pressure me to accept a table that would only be 1″ thick throughout only ½ of the table’s area(ie. not a flat table!), when I was originally told I would receive a table that was 2″ thick. Not only did this completely contradict his«guarantee», I was told that this was MY problem and that I would have to accept the table because«these things just happen». No. I’m sorry– these things don’t just happen. I would expect that Dan would have a better solution for me, such as the opportunity to select an alternative piece of wood, a price discount, or perhaps the option to have my money refunded. Instead, Dan dismissed all responsibility for the issue. The next day, after strong words with him, he(again– miraculously!) found that he could approach the issue from another angle flatten the board to 1.75″. I was infuriated that he was actually able to do something about the problem, yet just one day before, he tried to take the easy way out and sell me something defective. Unfortunately, because I had already purchased the legs from another source(as his in-house hairpin legs were marked up 350%) and paid the 50% deposit, I accepted the lesser thickness and continued to move forward. I picked up the table yesterday. It looks… quite amateur. Like a very rough, unrefined piece of wood that he slapped some finish on. It certainly does not compare to any of the beautiful pieces I was shown in their shop or on their website. To cap off the nightmare transaction… At the time of pick-up, Dan suddenly insisted on payment on delivery, when his invoice clearly states«Net-15» payment terms. After basically telling him one final F-off, I am home with my sub-par, overpriced table. It kind of makes me sick to look at it and to remember this experience– not what you’d hope for when you invest in a «unique» piece. I rarely write Unilocal reviews and I am normally always content to keep negative thoughts to myself. But this review is not for me to vent– this is to strongly stress the problems with Re-co Brooklyn and to protect other consumers who might be looking in this market. Please look elsewhere for your reclaimed wood and custom furniture needs.

I commissioned a dining table to be refashioned from a client’s pre-existing slab of redwood that had resembled something from the set of the Flintstone’s. It was massive but clunky and finished with inches of thick epoxy resin. The client thought it was a lost cause and questioned tossing it. I contacted RE-COBKLYN after watching a video posted on several social media sites and knew their mission and business ethics would appeal to my client’s eco aesthetic & consciousness.(full disclosure, I know co-owner Roger Benton socially.) After an initial onsite consultation which Roger answered and assuaged my client’s curiosity about the process and project we scheduled a pick up for the massive hunk of wood which was carried up 3 flights of a narrow staircase by Roger & his partner. Several weeks later and my client is overwhelmed and in love with this«new» dining table. The entire floor plan of the apartment has been re-arranged to showcase the gorgeous table. It is sleek, sophisticated and stunning. What impressed me the most was the tactile quality of the finish. It is the softest, most buttery wood surface I’ve ever touched. You can feel the passion and professionalism in the product. My only hope is to find another interior project in which I can work with RECO-BKLYN again.
