Drove over for dinner today 9÷3÷2015 and the place closed down. We need a Cuban spot in Bushwick– what a bummer.

Ugh, disappointing. Shame too, since the décor is pure class, whoever worked as the interior designer here deserves a raise. The food tho. I lived in Washington Heights before, so I’ve had my share of Cubanos, and the ones here were actually pretty average, especially for a Cuban joint. Moreso once you consider the price. For nine dollars I would be expecting the Cubanos to be out-of-this-world good, you know? The best part is that Cubano comes with a side of soggy fries and ketchup. Ketchup. At a Cuban place. Cuban cuisine has so many delicious sauces, how about some nice mojo or chimichurri instead? I have no idea why a Cuban café would want to give people a McDonalds experience, and I don’t really want to find out. Hopefully the old school Bushwick places can show Fonda some tricks.

The food is super delicious and the service great. We’re always pleasantly surprised. I can only speak to the vegetarian dishes, but I have always been satisfied with their fresh food and simple yet unique spin. Specifically the huevos rancheros were delicious with crispy onions mmmm good. The bean soup with avocado and the special bread with butter — I kept asking for more! Everytime I’ve gone I’m eyeing the other dishes as well to plan for my next visit. We have gone for a brunch a few times(myself and meat eaters too). I can’t wait to bring back more friends and family. Everyone I’ve taken so far is as equally satisfied as am I. There’s no other place like it nearby. I’ve gone to other places nearby where I wished I had kept walking and had brunch at Fonda Cubana instead. There is so much hype around some places sometimes, they forget about the food. Fonda Cubana has not forgotten. They make great food and they treat their customers like they want repeat patronage. Mmmmm good food and a great place to chil. I highly double super triple recommend it. I only give 4 stars because one, I don’t want it to seem like a fake review. Also, they don’t have their liquor license yet(as of 6÷28÷15). It doesn’t really matter to me, but it might for some people sometimes, though I wish they will overlook that. The passion fruit is refreshing enough on a hot afternoon. I want this place to thrive because it’s definitely what this area needs and should fully embrace.

The food is ok but it’s not authentic Cuban food. It’s more like a mix of Cuban and Mexican. They don’t have croqueta’s, pastelitos de carne or guayaba, and the fritas tastes nothing like the Cuban fritas. It was a little disappointing.

Kind service in an easy, relaxed environment. They make an excellent black bean soup, and the Cuban sandwiches are great.

Great Cuban sandwich! Good value too. My friend and I were able to be full sharing one. It comes with nicely seasoned fries too — all for 8.95. Also just an overall pretty atmosphere on an otherwise depressing block of wyckoff. Very happy to support this woman-owned business!

Great place to relax and listen to beautiful Spanish music. Truly enjoyed this restaurant! Great service, very clean and beautiful decorations! The food was great except the calamari which was extremely salty. Other than this everything was great!!!

The food is delicous and the service was outstanding. Once you enter you are greeted with a warm inviting smile. The painted art on their walls are beautiful and with the music playing in the back round helps to set the perfect atmosphere. I went in the morning with a friend to try their breakfast. I had«The Havana Benedict» and my friend had«Huevos Rancheros», it was amazing. Everything was cooked and seasoned just right. Their prices are reasonable so adding sides or extras doesn’t make you feel like you’re over spending. I’m definitely going back for dinner. Everyone should try this place and let’s make sure we keep them in business with our continuous support.

I went there yesterday in hopes of a new amazing restaurant in Ridgewood like others I have recently found. We Ordered guacamole, fried yuca, Cuban sandwich and the Ropa Vieja. The guacamole was good but the fried plantains that came with it were stale. They even brought out a new batch. Some were better but it was mixed with older plantains. I was hoping for them to be fresh and hot. The Cuban Sandwich was not pressed. It was of a mans sandwich. More of a hoggie it came with French fries and that was the only thing hot on the plate. As for the Ropa Vieja — it was fair. Like warm, to me that means not fresh. The Meat wasn’t shredded and it was more of a stew with cubes of meat but on the cold side. They nailed the yuka. It was hot fresh and delicious but unfortunately I wouldn’t come back for just yuka. During dinner there was loud music that at first I thought was coming from a very loud car. Turns out there is a music venue next store and they had rehearsal. I get it that Fonda means fast food bodega like but it should still be fresh, hot and a tasty presentation. That I didn’t get.

The décor is fun and inviting. Our large party started with guacamole and plaintain chips which was fresh & delicious. The dinner we ordered was average for the price charged. Roasted chicken, salmon & ropa Vieja. Stay away from the empanadas and shrimp appetizers. The shrimp tasted funny & not fresh. I had to spit it out. The beef empanadas were cooked with low grade beef or not fresh. They didn’t taste good. The steamed yuca in garlic & oil and churros with chocolate sauce were really good. Lastly, they don’t have a liquor license yet so plan to have virgin drinks. I eat authentic Cuban food often so I expected better quality.

I pass by this place every day, and was excited to see it finally opened. I went for brunch with my roommate, who had little experience with Cuban food. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the Steak & Eggs– steak done just right and well seasoned; home fries and plantains were great, too. Not a huge portion but that was OK with me at the time. My roomie had a Cuban, which looked delicious. The atmosphere was quiet at the time, but inviting, clean, and had upbeat music in the background. Reminded me of a place I would find back home in Tampa! The décor was fun and well done. Service was friendly and attentive! I definitely plan to come back for dinner soon and try more.

I finally tried this new local restaurant last night– Guacamole Matanzas: Avocado was perfectly chunky, seasoned perfectly, plantain chips went perfectly well with the guacamole. Asopao Guantanamo: MINDBLOWING. Rice had a perfect texture, chicken was tender and juicy, peppers and olives complimented the dish super well. I don’t really know how to explain how good it was, so you just have to try it. El Cubano: Yes. Pork. Nomnomnom. Fries were very good, too. Service: super nice! Interior decore: the walls are cool! over all, maybe still work in progress?

The service was amazing and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Food choices were eclectic but traditionally Cuban. We were thoroughly impressed with everything and will return to ear more Cubanos!
