The woman that runs Umi has run fantastic sushi bars in the West End of Richmond for over a decade and throughout this period, she has perfected the art of service and has the freshest sushi I have ever eaten. The chill atmosphere, good Japanese music, comfortable chairs, and spacious seating layout makes this the kind of restaurant you could spend hours in. The details matter to me, down to the chocolate mints this place NAILED it and should be very Proud!
The Toro (fatty tuna) and fatty yellow tail, which i just can’t find anywhere else, is unbelievable melts in your mouth, satisfied in one piece, but expensive, 10 per piece. Worth it. The rest of the menu is a bit cheaper, 3 – 4 per piece. The tempura is so crispy and flaky. The ginger salad dressing sweetened by puréed carrots I would drink plain. Perfect place if you want to impress a date or client. Never heard of anyone leaving this lady’s restaurant unhappy. She’s built her business from a small family business into the tastiest and most underrated restaurant in short pump, hear that Anoka? Step up your game! If you go once, you will be a lifetime customer like me and you won’t be able to look at Kroger sushi anymore.
