James & I wanted to order a large pepperoni pizza here to carry with us to VCU hospital for Ben & Dora. We were driving from NoVa to Richmond and we wanted to time the pick-up of the pizza so it would be hot and ready to eat and not cold by the time we got to VCU Hosp. James called when we were about 30 minutes out, the guy on the phone said, oh just call 5 minutes ahead we’ll have it ready. I said to James, «come on, who can cook a pizza in 5 minutes». We waited until we were about 20 minutes out, James called and ordered the pizza, the guy said oh, well it’s going to take 15 to 20 minutes. We were there 20 minutes after we ordered the pizza and still waited 5 minutes for the pizza. Oh well, Ben liked it, he saved Dora a piece for later. CASHANDCARRYONLY… NOCREDITCARDS!

This place is delicious. Very New York, down to the service. Cash only, but they have ATMs. Had the pepperoni /mushroom slice, garlic knots, and sausage roll. Sauce is thin and spicy, and was especially perfect with the sausage roll. Oh man, that sausage roll. First time having pizza in Richmond, and it was a great choice. Enjoy! P. S. They are open nice and late.

The pizza here is great. It’s the closest to NY pizza you’ll get and even better it’s hours are the closest to NY hours. It’s the perfect spot for a late night snack or if you’re just craving a slice.

It was getting late at night and we were shopping for some late night grub. Found this place on Unilocal and decided to take a chance. It has a definite divey feeling to it but the owner was there(at midnight!) making pizzas behind the counter. He was super friendly as he belted out tunes from the radio while he prepped our pie. Literally 10 minutes later we had a hot, steamy, cheesy goodness circle shaped pizza pie in our hands. It didn’t last long there as we divided and conquered it easily wishing we had gotten two. It had that familiar pizza-joint taste that just can’t be described. Follow your taste buds over the Pizza Place.

After driving by this place for what seems like a million times, I finally decided to try it since I knew it was open late and I had just finished my 3−10PM Pediatric ED shift. The menu is a bit more limited after a certain cutoff time(probably either 11PM or midnight, I can’t remember), after which they sell only a subset of their menu. Also, the guy behind the counter said I could only order by the slice or whole pizza extra large. Despite the somewhat limited offerings, I ordered a slice of mushroom pizza, a Jamaican patty, and a sausage roll. The worker put all my food back into the oven for reheating. When he didn’t put the mushroom pizza in at first, I thought he had forget part of my order, especially since he started tending to other people’s orders placed after mine, but when I spoke up, he said it was just because the thin pizza didn’t need to heat up as long. He was definitely a no-nonsense New Yorker, but at no point would I have considered him to have been rude. He was just very direct and to the point. As for the restaurant itself, it’s simple and has a few tables for eating in, but I took my order to-go. It came wrapped in a nice pizza box. As for the food itself, I will pretty much only eat thin-crust pizza, so the thin crispy texture was just to my liking. I was also glad that the pizza was not too heavy when it comes to cheese; I prefer a greater sauce-to-cheese ratio. Overall, not super cheap, but the slices are huge, it’s nice crispy pizza, and it’s open super late.

What can I say, there are not a lot of pizza places in richmond, let alone ones that will deliver to the bottom so the choices are limited. I use to love this place, untill tonight. I called ahead to order a large pepperoni, not hard you would think for a pizza joint. They told me they had pizza’s ready so I headed over. I waited in line and when it was my turn I asked for a large pepperoni. The guy behind the counter said the last large pizza had been sold. I said I would waite for them to make a new one. he then ignored me and took the next customers order. They were making pizza’s right there, I don’t understand why they couldn’t have taken some dough and spread it out and made a simple pepperoni pizza.

It was meh. There are many reviews on here from people who compare it to NY, but folks, let me tell you that’s it’s far from it, about 335 miles to be exact. If you think it tastes as good as the pizza from NYC then you clearly ate somewhere that’s probably no longer in business. This pizza is best eaten on location. I placed my order in store, waited for my pizza to cook, then drove home immediately. The drive only takes 2 – 3 minutes tops, but when I arrived home, it was no longer hot. The flavor was alright. It was tangy the way I like my sauce to be. I ordered a plain cheese 14″. The ratio of cheese to bread was 1:12. I thought it was over cooked and dry, that no amount of sauce(not that it had any) could save it. I can say two things for sure: it’s not New York Style, and I won’t be going back.

After two years, I finally think I found my NY pizza place in Richmond. Nice thin, chewy crust, with a thin layer of sauce and cheese with a nice crisp NY bite. This will be my new go-to pizza place from now on. Prices are fair to good and the staff seem to have a good time working there which is nice to see. Bring cash.

Spent the weekend in the Dirty Rick. Brought a Lasagna Pie back to the Hotel. I had a slice there and a Beef Pattie! Confessions of a fat f$&k. He shoots, he scores. Peace.

As a New Yorker in the south, it is a constant struggle to find good pizza. This is a rundown hole in the wall but the pizza is solid. Slices are smaller for the late night bar crowd. Its worth it.

Service: The staff is usually friendly but they can be short and overwhelmed with orders easily. Cash only bit kind of sucks Pizza: Best I’ve had in Richmond so far. Resembles typical NY style thin crust to a t.

These guys on staff are really warm and flexible. They made a chicken parm pizza on the spot for a pizza by the slice order.

Summary: The Pizza Place is a NY Style pizza joint that offers pizza as well as some non-traditional items like Jamaican Beef Patties. Cost: We had 4 slices and 2 bottled beverages for $ 15. Seems fair. Taste: Crispy and tasty. I think good pizza is either crispy and thin, or deep dish and buttery, and The Pizza Place has some darn good crispy crust. The sauce actually was quite good as well, probably due to the visible herbs and seasoning on top. I have certainly had some worse pizzas in my life. Atmosphere: When we first walked in I was honestly a bit apprehensive. It was a bright day and the inside was quite dark and had a slightly scary feel to it. Let’s just say it doesn’t have the environment of a family restaurant. You can actually purchase condoms here, which I’m not sure about you, but I have never had the option to buy a Slice, Soda, and Protection before all at one place. However, and this is a big however, once we sat down and our eyes adjusted, it’s not such a bad place. Who am I to say that a place shouldn’t have Disney on Ice promotional cards right next to Night Club flyers with explicit titles? The place does what it is passionate for and they have good pizza, so I really can’t judge. Service: There was one staff member working there and he greeted everyone as «Boss». He seemed genuine and knew what he was doing. All in all a cool guy. Overall: On a recent Talk post, some fellow Unilocalers suggested The Pizza Place as a place to go for slices. I stand by their suggestions and would definitely come back for a slice if I were in the area. Would I come at night? Probably not, and not without a group. But if you’re walking around the area in the day or in between classes and want a place for a nice piece of crispy and flavorful pizza at a fair price, definitely check it out.

While the atmosphere isn’t that of a upscale restaraunt, it doesn’t have to be! At all! The Pizza more than makes up for all of it. Authentic NYC style pizza, and quite frankly the Best Pizza on the East Side of Richmond. The Staff is very passionate about their craft, and when you see them make your pizza, they have a certain style, and it really engages you! Its exiting! Tony, the owner, is incredible, having a very positive and productive relationship with the City and its residence :) Restaraunt is PERFECT for the late night Club goers who want a quick bite, although they only sell by the slice after a certain time. I’m a big fan of this Place. Great Vibes, Great Staff, Great Pizza.

I’ve been going to the Pizza Place occasionally for a couple of years now. I usually get the broccoli or sausage roll. Both rolls are good. The pizza sauce that comes with the roll is pretty tasty. The rolls aren’t very big. The New York style pizza is pretty good. The topping are limited. The owner usually works the restaurant. He moves very fast, he expects you to know what you want when you come up to the counter. If you are indecisive, he will go to the next customer. If the restaurant is not very busy then the owner is more patient. The Pizza Place is CASHONLY. There is an ATM inside of the restaurant. The restaurant only has a couple of tables to eat your pizza. During the week, the Pizza Place is mellow. On weekend nights, the restaurant is usually crowded with people leaving or going to the club. The parking is a hassle during weekends. During the week, you shouldn’t have a problem finding street parking. The service is usually fast. If you are in the area, the Pizza Place is solid choice for a slice of pizza or the rolls. I give Pizza Place a 3.5 rating!

I am a huge pizza snob. I have been to just about every pizza place here in the Richmond area. Way too many«New York Pizza» wannabes. But this place is legit. Its not New York City’s finest, but its definitely the best in Richmond for NY Pizza. As a student, its great cause its opened super late, and its near campus However, the location at night is shady. I worry for my safety(seriously) and try to go there with friends. They sell condoms and cigars. Not really my idea of restaurant professionalism. They take only cash, so put your cards away(they have an ATM though). The guys that work there are typical New yorkers. Nice, but don’t really deal with crap. They are to the point. The restaurant sucks to eat at. Booths are small, and there are only like 3 tables. Sometimes, drunk people will come in and stare at you. Though I appreciate the attention, I always take it to go. I want to give this place 4 stars, but the pizza is just too good. Bottom line: Best Pizza hands down in Richmond, but bring cash and take it to go.
