The weather was decent, but there were times when we would have preferred more sun. In addition, the walk, or should I say«hike», proved very difficult for small children, or at least I imagine it will once we have children and bring them. The food that we brought was good, but not great. We did not bring enough sun screen and may have suffered acute sun burn as a result. We will not be going back.

It is near some sketchy neighborhoods, has little parking, no facilities and many people bring their yapping dogs. The walk is a lot of steep inclines and many stairs through the woods and over a train overpass. So you need to be prepared for those things. When you meet your destination there are lots of space in the water to sit and cool off, the nature around is soothing and you can picnic on the edge. It is fun to try your hand at balancing rocks or going away from the people to fish. The rocky bottom can be slippery so beware. Some people wear water sandals or shoes. It is a good idea to look at the tide chart before going to see where the water level will be. You can take a life jacket to be safer, but keep in mind it can also pull you downstream faster depending on where you are in the water. It is a fun place to be to chill. Be sure to take a bag for garbage because you have to carry all your used stuff back out. As with every place weekends have more people, but since this place is farther from the road it has less than some other similar places.

Beautiful spot! Lots of rocks to hang out on when the river is low and the«Beach» is the best part! Get there early on nice days to claim a good rock. Large parking lot with endless street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. It’s a bit of a hike getting down there as opposed to other River spots in RVA, so pack light and perhaps leave the little ones at home. However, despite what other reviews may say, it is kid friendly – that is if your kid is friendly with dogs, booze, and other elixirs. :) All in all you’ll find people having a great time, and probably will leave with new friends.

An awesome swimming hole in the middle of a city? Come on now! A .25M walk down from the parking lot and you’re at one of the best places in RVA to take a dip, bbq, sip on a few drinks, & take the dogs swimming. #WhyRVA? This is why!

Nice place to have a stroll and seems to have plenty of trails. There is a trail that runs along the James river which make for a great photo opportunity. Seems to be a nice place to ride a bike, but I’m not sure if you are allowed.
