Pros OK prices and some cool stuff, though the best stuff will be bid up to almost retail pricing typically. They tend to have less junk in this auction than any of the other Richmond online auction houses. Cons Mostly the auction items are accurately described… but 2 – 3 times they’ve omitted describing flaws in items that would have prevented me from buying them. And the photography never showed the flaws… if you don’t have time to personally check out the merchandise, I would pass. — Also, once when I went in to pick up my items, one of their employees scolded me for running the price up of the item SHE was bidding on… WTF! So not only are you competing with other peers, you’re competing with their employees, who probably have inside knowledge on which items are in the best shape. THAT annoyed me. Probably happens at all of the places in town, but GEEZE — don’t scold me for bidding on things just because YOU were wanting them. Overall, I keep attending their auctions andbuying from them. More good than bad, in a business that can be staffed by semi-ethical or shady business practitioners.

VERY disappointed at a recent experience. I’ve purchased and sold a lot of furniture at fair, yet slightly higher than average price over the years(negotiations, and all; it’s good business ethics and karma). I went in again this weekend, as I was interested in purchasing a table set that would be PERFECT for my new home across the country and am moving the end of the month; it has been quite difficult finding anything that would work in the space of my new home. After waiting 2 weeks for the set to be priced — not only was it inaccurately labeled, but double the high market resale value. I left a note for the owner/manager to call me so we could discuss, as I was VERY interested in purchasing it as it was PERFECT! Not only was it «explained» away that it was consignment — which I understood; I sell things in consignment and purchase, as well … but, from my impression, apparently the owner of the piece had been misinformed of the value and what they owned as they insisted the owner of the piece wanted to start the price at a MUCH higher, unreasonable price point; the owner was clearly not given a realistic value for the table and was mislead … thereby misleading the public. In addition to this, they stated they could change the label, etc etc … but the point is, they were dealing with someone who KNEW what they were purchasing(me) and was already offering them a generous, higher than resale market value for the set(offering $ 100 more than actual value). It is not difficult to add to a label that something is a «style» vs passing it off as authentic, but to leave the impression with unwitting, potential buyers who are less informed is not only unethical, but irresponsible on all levels — not just for buyers, but owners trying to sell. It’s false advertising. After spending more than a year purchasing a variety of things from Susan’s … I now find this to be a less than principled business. I know of stagers and others that purchase from here, I’ve even referred people. This all now ends. If the managers aren’t able to inform their clients accordingly of the actual value of their furniture(if you want a full price, sell by owner, not consignment), and those tagging the items are misleading by not adding simple verbiage, I can’t consciously recommend others purchase items from here and not be taken advantage of. Save your money and shop elsewhere. As someone who is highly principled, fair and ethical, I was quite disappointed. Be VERY cautious of purchasing from them. If you don’t mind throwing money away, go ahead and buy on the floor from them … otherwise, wait for the auction, where you will most likely pay what a piece is worth or get a deal.

Susan’s Selections used to be one of my favorite places to shop, whether at this location or any of their estate sales. In the past year to year and a half, they have built up their online auction business, so selection has drastically dropped. 2 years ago my family came here and in one day bought all the furniture my brother needed for a new apartment, then stopped by Krispy Kreme for a hot doughnut. Definitely could not do that today! It seems that most of the«good stuff» is in the online auctions, which are typically during the mornings/afternoons and never weekends, which doesn’t work at all with my schedule. I still stop in occasionally, but it is difficult to really find anything. All four rooms used to be packed with great finds at great prices, with a good turnover, but now it is just sparse. Rug prices are generally very high, furniture prices run the gamut, artwork prices are mid range.

SO much more affordable than West End Antiques! Smaller selection, not as old, but damn good decent prices. Plus if you wait and come back the price drops according to the ticket… that is IF it is still there! Everyone was super friendly, looks like there is high turnover of items, so keep your eyes peeled!

I’m surprised there are no recent reviews! I’ve been wanting to stop in here for a while and finally got the chance. It a huge space! I was let down though, with the selection and the PRICES! Wow! Really??? Nothin notable or interesting. Lots of 70s pieces that could maybe be updated, but not at those prices! Laughable! Probably won’t take the time to stop I again.

Susan’s selections gets a good bit of merchandise from estate sales. This explains their«amazing prices». While their store may be a great place to shop, I don’t recommend their estate sale business whatsoever. They charge an upfront fee and then charge for«house cleanout» which conveniently eats up whatever profit had been made in the sale. Their final accounting takes weeks and then they don’t, can’t or won’t provide a list of what items are in consignment. Consider other options before agreeing to hire this company for your own sale.

While Susan’s Selection is not as big as some of the other mega antiques malls, what makes it better is that the selection changes out far more frequently then other spots. With two decent sized rooms the merchandise is packed in while they repair the front room that fell victim to a granny in a mini van doing some unintentional acceleration… and it wasn’t even a Toyota! So, I personally found the prices to be amazing. For example they had a great, modern aluminum dining table with 4 chairs and a glass top(something I would not hesitate to snap up had I the room) with cushions for $ 175. That wouldn’t buy the chairs, let alone the cushions. They also had a set of 2 chairs and a couch for $ 165 in the same modern black(think Restoration Hardware) aluminum with the same type white weatherproof cushion. I still might get them but they quoted me $ 95 for delivery which is far more then I have ever paid before in Richmond. It is not easy to find as it is in kind of an office park, but for me to find two things I would buy is unusual. Go check it out!

Susan’s is a consignment and antique store in Lakeside, with a nice variety of furniture and home items. They also do estate auctions, house clearing and offer downsizing and moving services for seniors. I like to come in and browse the store when I have a little extra time– they have a back room filled with odds and ends and some great fixer-uper items(chests that can be rehabbed, etc), and then their front rooms have higher quality furniture and glass items. My favorite purchase from Susan’s is an old old potato ricer– it’s one of those vintage kitchen items you just have to have when you find it. I’ve also seen some great dressers, tables and chairs… Susan’s is a little pricey in my opinion, and they tend to have more traditional vintage furniture… their furniture is in varying conditions(they won’t sell anything that is seriously broken, but it’s not unusually to see a gorgeous chair in need of a cleaning)… It’s worth checking out if you like to scout around for unique finds… plus are open on Sundays, which is a nice perk, as most local stores are closed on Sunday.
