Pete’s is closed. A sign in the door on 08.18.13 thanked customers for 4 great years.

Stopped by Pete’s Corner Café while passing through Richmond. We refuse to eat at chain restaurants and this place hit the mark. Its a small place with a simple beachy theme. The server was friendly and very helpful. I ordered the special sandwich of the day which was a grilled cheese on texas toast with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and jalepeno poppers. It was very good! My husband ordered the smokehouse burger which was a large fresh burger on an onion roll topped with bacon, onion rings(freshly made), cheddar cheese, and bbq sauce. Both sandwiches were served with fresh cut fries. Yum! The server brought us a bbq ranch dipping sauce to try with the fries. They have coke products and fresh brewed tea. The food came out promptly and the prices are very reasonable. We will eat here again for sure!

This place is great to stop in for a bite to eat. My Family and I were on our way home to Illinois from Columbus Ohio. The food was all very fresh and flavorful. Pete’s is only a couple of minutes off the interstate and well worth it, to get out of eating same old chain food. I had The Big Kahuna sandwich, one of the better pork tenderloins I have had in a long time, my son got the Jr. and it satisfied his finicky palate. The Burger Heather my wife got was top notch. And the price was very reasonable no more than running through a drive up window. This is the kind of restaurant that is a real treat to find I will definitely be back on my next visited to see the Wife’s family. One more thing this place has a fun Hawaiian them even a real surfboard hanging on the wall. And is definitely one of the cleanest kitchens I’ve seen in restaurant ever. Say High to the owner for me he is a great guy.

While I’m not a breakfast person, I occasionally eat breakfast when I’m on the road and need to be more awake. Today, with three hours of sleep, there was more need than usual, although I wasn’t out on the road. This place is located at the five-way intersection at Fort Wayne Avenue, North D Street, North 6th Street, and Richmond Avenue. Parking seems to be available on Fort Wayne Avenue or Neff Street, just to the north. There is something that looks like a parking lot on the south side, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to access it. When I was younger, we never went to this area, unless there was something to do with a train. The only places to eat were the bars of that time. Since Sylvania’s(now Little Sheba’s) opened, the area surrounding the Pennsylvania RR depot has become better and safer. I suppose what was there has gone to Main Street instead. This place used to be a glass store, and I think it’s much better as a restaurant. As I entered, I didn’t know much to expect. There were a few people seated, but no one to greet me. I didn’t see a sign about seating yourself, so I waited. A friendly man arrived from the back of the building, and told me to sit anywhere. I had a seat, he brought utensils and a menu, and he asked if I wanted coffee. Within a minute, he brought the apple juice I requested, and asked if I needed more time. I didn’t, and ordered biscuits and gravy(and at his assurance that it was quite large, a half-order), and hash browns. Within a few minutes the food arrived. The hash browns seemed a bit glossy, but it’s not unusual to see some cooks use more oil than others. However, they were brown and white, which is typical, unlike Cracker Barrel where the hash browns weren’t brown at all. The gravy was like brown country gravy, almost a chocolate milk shake colour, and lacked any sausage, which seemed unusual. The biscuits were yellow-ish and both heavy and a bit tough. As I started to eat, I noticed that everything seemed to lack seasoning. Of course, there are many people who prefer it this way and I can’t blame them for doing something safe. Some salt and pepper added, the food was satisfactory, but not exciting or particularly flavourful. The price at $ 6.08 for half-order biscuits and gravy, hash browns, and apple juice was reasonable. I guess I’ll have to return for the Baja Fish Tacos, since I haven’t had great fish tacos since I left California and Florida. The menu has a number of interesting items, and I’m certainly willing to give it another go.

Great breakfast and lunch. Just wish they were open for dinner, too. Breakfast is served all day. The onion rings were awesome, and the sauce was great. Pete came out and asked if everything was ok and told us he hand-makes all the sauces except for the tartar sauce. Friendly and cares very much about how you’re liking things. I had the BBQ chicken salad. A generous portion for 6.75. Beats mickey D’s any day. Daughter had pancakes and said they were delcious on their own sans syrup. The other time I went for breakfast and had perfectly cooked sunny-side up eggs and super crispy bacon. A really great«comfort food» breakfast. Interior of restaurant is Hawaii themed, bright, spacious, and the waitress very friendly. Highly recommend. I will patronize this place often. Service can be sometimes excruciatingly slow, hence three stars instead of four. Don’t eat here if you’re in a rush.

Oh my word, I love Unilocal. It helps me find some of the best restaurants. I think in the«hometown, all American cooking» category Pete’s Corner Café wins the prize. The comments that have been made about the onion rings are no joke. They are the BEST I have ever eaten and come with this amazing dipping sauce. It is so yummy I brought what little I had left home to eat on something else. My fish tacos were really good and my friend had the Da Island Smokehouse and also really enjoyed it. You can just look at the food and tell it is homemade. Pete, the owner, is really friendly. He greeted and chatted with everyone that was in the place when I was there. My only complaint was that it was a bit warm, but I was by the window. Normally I would remove a star because of that, but this food was just so great I can’t do it. Come on you local folks get out and support this place. You can bet I will, even though I live an hour away. Yes, it was that good! Pete and staff thanks for the yummy food and a great price. I hope you get a Unilocal letter and sticker soon.

I really, really like Pete’s! Pete’s is a great place to go for something different! You may find a cheeseburger and fries, but they’re no ordinary cheeseburger and fries. Everything is home made and just delicious! Don’t expect to get right in and out. Because everything is made to order, it takes some time and Pete will be the first to tell you, «We may be a little slower than the fast food places but we’re worth it». He’s not lying! Great place. Great food. Great people. I only wish they were open for dinner!!!

In Richmond for the first time to explore. Our initial look on Unilocal said Pete’s was close, so we thought we’d give it a try. We started with the onion rings. Home made from scratch and the tangy ranch BBQ sauce was the perfect complement. I had the pork tenderloin on texas toast. Pete used ground pistachios in the breading… wow, what a nice surprise. We also tried the biscuits and gravy. A nice gravy with great flavor, obviously fresh made. I will be back to try some of the other interesting options on the menu.

The cleanest restaurant I have ever been in! And the food is delicious… dressings for salad and sauce for fish tacos are notably tasty. «Pete» has good stories if you catch him when no other customers are in.

Worst burger I’ve ever had, they even left some of the fixin’s off. Fries drenched in oil. I heard the owner exclame«if business doesn’t pick up I’m going to have to close». I can see why business isn’t good.

I had wondered about this place ever since I moved to Richmond, but it was never open when I was in that area. The place should have been closed(it was almost 3:00 on Saturday), but when I opened the door, Pete welcomed me warmly and showed me a menu. Their offerings are not fancy, but they offer a really good selection of American diner and café food, with a rotating desert menu. They also sell peanut brittle(which looked good, but I am not fond of peanuts), and buckeyes(peanut butter chocolate balls). My order was ready quickly, but it did take a few minutes because items such as sandwiches are not pre-made. Also Pete doesn’t use crap like pre-mixed eggs, so there is some prep involved as well. The food was good, but I think what really makes this place is Pete and his knowledge of the area’s history. I went in to do a quick pick-up order, but spent quite a while there talking to the owner. So Pete’s has cheap food(most expensive item by far was the $ 7.99 steak platter), a cute, light-filled place(although it is going to be remodeled soon), good conversation, great customer service, and open for Sunday brunch! All in all Pete’s is a winner! Oh, they also have a frequent buyer card too, and will do catering and call-ahead takeout orders.

As Ann Arborites, we make it a point to find those special places in every town we go to. We were in Richmond IN for a dog show and like we always do, we zeroed in right on what made this old blues recording town great. Pete’s is one of ‘em! See my other review under Pizza King, also in Richmond, IN, which was highly recommended by Pete’s for another of our meals! Pete’s ranks high on our list for ambiance, friendliness(the owner and I also traded recipe ideas!) and an old-town whistle stop kind of charm. The chicken salad is full of semi-secret yummy ingredients(almonds! Dried cranberries!) and the homemade biscuits with the owner’s mom’s recipe sausage gravy is hard to beat! Homemade milk and white chocolate buckeyes! Homemade basil/tomato soup! Homemade peanut brittle that they will ship to your door(in the cooler season)! Richmond IN is not the easiest town to navigate but please — if you love your taste buds — find this place!

I’ve only been for lunch(It is mainly a breakfast place) but their wraps are delicious. The portobello mushroom wrap far exceeded my expectations. It was freshly made and just the right size. I look forward to going back soon.
