Mrs Marshall’s Carytown Café

Welcome to the South! Come on in, sit down and let us take you back to more relaxing days. That is exactly how I feel walking into one of my favorite spots in Carytown. I am sure you have seen their famous potato salad in Ukrop’s (Martin’s). You can always count on great service and amazing food. Prices are reasonable but the hours are a bit funky, so beware you may get there a bit late (def more of a lunch stop).

When i think comfort lunch food, I think Mrs Marshall’s. Not only does this Carytown spot offer tons of classic sandwich options, but you can also order one boxed lunch style with potato salad, a deviled egg and dessert! Talk about taking you back to childhood!
The egg salad is absolutely fantastic. It might just be my favorite egg salad in RVA — creamy, flavorful and well-​balanced. And the deviled eggs? Tangy and delicious. But the highlight of my last visit was dessert. The crème de menthe to be exact. I purchased a bite-​sized taste (a small square that fit into one of those small plastic condiment containers) and was completely blown away. It was minty, chocolate-​y, creamy, smooth, and literally melted in my mouth. It was almost like a soft, creamy brownie topped layered with green mint filling and finished with thick, semi-​solid chocolate. Heavenly. Absolutely heavenly. Although I would have happily eaten an entire piece, rather than a bite-​size portion, I might have gone into a sugar coma. So I think the bite-​sized taste is the way to go for me.
Believe me, I will be heading to Mrs. Marshall’s just for this dessert soon. Oh, who am I kidding? I’m totally going to be ordering the egg salad sammie and a deviled egg while I’m at it.

I am reviewing yet another «institution» here. Mrs. Marshall’s is exactly what you would expect… a place full of simple, fresh, well made specialties that are consistent and tasty. Most famous, the potato salad (also available in the deli section at Martins). Cold homemade salads: egg, tuna, chicken, ham, macaroni and cole slaw. I recommend the Tarragon Chicken salad with plump golden raisins… yummy. Want more? How about pimento cheese spread?
Party platters include Smithfield Ham Biscuits, Chicken Salad Biscuits or platter that include a choice of 3 ingredients: Roast Beef, Baked Ham, Turkey or Chicken. Tuna, Egg, Pimento Cheese, Cream Cheese & Olives, Pasta Salad, Macaroni Salad. It is a mayonnaise megagasm
They deliver for a $ 60 minimum for a $ 10 fee.
