The food is ok… just like any other hibachi spot. Rice was a bit hard but the shrimp amd scallops were good… also a noce size. They charge an additional 2.95 for fried rice on top of the $ 20-$ 30 meals but you have the option to get steamed rice at no charge. Waitstaff was nice and attentive. Also like most restaurants 18% gratuity on large parties. Fun chef.

We live in Florida, and came to kabutos while on vacation. To our amazement, it was a very desirable experience. The staff all the way from hostess to our waitress were so friendly. And for myself, growing up in a part Japanese family, the food here was very authentic Japanese food, unlike compared to most of the«hibachi» chain restarants out there these days… I highly recommend this place for a date night or even a family outing

Probably the best hibachi in this area. They have specials like ladies eat half off on Wednesday night. My only critique is I’m used to rice from hibachi places being softer like jasmine rice. Their rice taste like uncle ben’s rice. I also don’t like the bean sprout option. I think there should be a choice for lo mein in place of those bean sprouts. If they fixed those two things they could be five star.

I wouldn’t even give them a single star if I could. PLEASEDON’T WASTEYOURMONEYHERE! We went in for a nice family meal and this was the worst experience ever. Let me explain. First off the guy cooking our food burned a lot of the food and almost messed up the order. Second of all one of us found the a piece of hair yes HAIRINTHIERMEAL! And the manager didn’t even show any consideration for that all he cared about was us paying our bill in full didn’t even bother to do anything not even a mini discounts or anything. I’ve worked for two different restaurants a small business and a corporation and at both places when a customer found hair in their food the manager didn’t want to see the hair. If I found a piece of hair I’m not going to hold on to it I’m going to toss it. Please save your money and go to a better restaurant where the manager actually cares about their customers.

I understand that businesses need to make the best use of their services to be cost effective. But there’s a limit. We had birthday dinner reservations for my son for 6pm on a Monday night. The actual day of his birthday. Coincidentally, it was Kids eat free night. There were 3 of us in a party of which 1 was a child. Well, they made us wait until 7:02 to bring the chef out. Why? They made us wait until they had enough customers to fill the table before starting!!! They should have a disclaimer that says customers should expect to wait for as long as it takes to fill a hibachi table before being served! I’ve been to DOZENS of Japanese Steakhouses and never had to wait if the table party wasn’t complete. It’s obvious they made us wait to ensure they could make the best use of THEIRTIMEANDRESOURCESATTHECUSTOMERSEXPENSE!!! My review is directed 100% at the management. If there was an option, I’d give negative 5 stars. The Chef and the Waitress were hardworkers and very pleasant. went to the Manager right before the Chef came out and told him exactly what I wrote above. Well, needless to say he wasn’t trained in Customer Service because he looked at me with an expression that said it all and didn’t say anything. When I made the reservation for my sons birthday, we went over the type of cake and his name. Ironic how at the end of our dinner, no one came for the birthday singing or the cake and I had to tell the waitress. I saw the waitress trying to get that manager to come sing and he refused and didn’t come. So it was her and one other guy. I’ve never had this poor level of service and spiteful behavior from any establishment ever.

I really do LOOOVE some hibachi. Its probably one of my favorite meals ever. However, with the ever increasing price, I hardly ever get to have a hibachi meal. I remember having hibachi in High School when the meals were half the price they are today. Oh well! I ate at Kabuto for the first time this past Monday, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that kid’s eat FREE(with a paid adult meal) on Monday’s. This was great, as the kid’s meals are $ 13 each. It was my youngest son’s first hibachi dinner and he had a great time. The show was great and our waitress was amazing. She even ended the meal giving our kids small paper cranes with their names written in Japanese. My oldest thought it was the coolest thing in the world. She also served their drinks with paper fans, which was a huge hit. I definitely would go back to Kabuto, but admittedly would time it for a Monday night to get the most for my money. My only disappointment was having to pay and extra $ 3 for fried rice when I was already paying $ 30 for my meal. I feel like it should just come fried rice automatically.

Great food, but I wasn’t fond of the salad dressing that comes on the salads. Last visited for a birthday and they made that pretty special.

I have only come here for the ramen special they have on Sundays. With that said, I have been here 14 times. This ramen is delicious. I usually always get the Shio ramen, but have had the Shoyu, which is really good too. The noodles are delicious, not too soft, and not too firm, just right. The pork is sometimes on the fatty side, but that is to be expected, and it is really good. As an appetizer, I order the shrimp tempura shumai. I love these little delicately fried morsels of shrimp. I have no idea what is in them, and I don’t want to know. The dipping sauce they come with is also absolutely delicious. The waitress is super nice and knows our order, but double checks with us every time we go. The chefs are also very nice, and at least one of them comes out to make sure everything was delicious each time. It’s nice to see that they are truly passionate about what they do. Overall, I love coming here for their ramen special. I have yet to try the hibachi, honestly it isn’t something that appeals to me right now, but it seems like it would be fun to try with a group of people.

Very good sushi! If you want to know more about sushi and sashimi, talk to chef(Ted). He is the professional chef with the experience of more than 20 years. Kabuto is the best in town. They also do ramen every Sunday from 12 — 3 pm and it is the best traditional Japanese ramen!

Super entertaining chef, great atmosphere, and the food cooked to perfection.(Though the bean sprout wasn’t cooked as good as I do at home, some Worcestershire sauce will do! ^^) I also appreciate the food was tasty not salty. Great for quiet Monday night eating like at home.

** This is a review on their Ramen only. ** Some people have a love — hate relationship with certain things in life. Ramen for me transcends that notion and is instead love — love, and when I found out that Kabuto, literally across the street from my apartment, starts a Ramen special, you’re damn right I’m going to try it. So here’s the deal. They started a ramen special in late 2014, lasting only from 12:00PM to 3:00PM on Sundays. There is a particular place to sit when you order it, and a limited menu(see uploaded picture) and costs about $ 9 a bowl. At first this might be confusing to someone because I imagine the initial response when someone thinks of ramen is «That’s stupid, I can make ramen at my house in 5 minutes for 40 cents.» However, having lived in Japan for a few months I have grown to appreciate the noodle soup god’s gift to this earth that is ramen. Legitimate Japanese ramen takes hours to make the broth(sometimes even days) along with careful and artful preparation of all of the toppings like pork, scallions, bamboo shoots, and the noodles themselves. –Food: And man, Kabuto gets all of this right. We both ordered Shio ramen, and the noodles were absolutely perfect. They were firm and delicious, not to mention plentiful. The rest of the toppings are fantastic as well, including chashu(fatty pork), bean sprouts, scallions, and nori(fish cake). For those intimidated by fatty pork, give it a try in ramen, it just works and is delicious. The actual broth base of Shio ramen is seasoned salt(shio means salt in Japanese), and the flavor is wonderful. It’s not too salty, despite its name. They also have shoyu(soy sauce), miso(soybean), and tonkatsu(pork) based ramen, and I want to try them all. We also tried some appetizers of shrimp tempura shumai(tempura shrimp dumplings) and gyoza(pan fried steamed pork dumplings). The gyoza was good, but I’m not sure I’d get them again for $ 7. –Cost: Each bowl is $ 9-$ 10, and while that might sound like a lot to those unfamiliar with the real thing, it’s actually extremely fairly priced. A typical bowl in Japan is actually right around here, so that’s not bad at all. The appetizers seem a little expensive, but not outrageous. The ramen is what shines here anyway. If you want extra ramen toppings, you can get that too, and things like eggs can be added for $ 0.75. I got an egg half and it was great. –Service: When we first walked in, we were escorted to the hibachi room and then seated and left alone. We were looking at each other thinking«I don’t think this is really the right spot for ramen…» and after a couple minutes we grabbed someone who ended up directing us up the stairs to a seating area. Then someone came by and said that we were still in the wrong area, and directed up more to a corner of the room. So this was confusing. A lot. After this, though, everything was superb. Our waitress was awesome and suggested some things and made it very welcoming and easy to understand exactly what they were offering, and was super polite the whole time. I’ve had many a bowl of ramen and my fiancée has had her fair deal when we visit DC, so we knew what we were doing, but if someone completely new to the world of ramen were to stop by and get our waitress, I’m sure they’d be completely comfortable with the whole process. I think this is actually really important and I commend our waitress for making the experience so welcoming. The ramen chef also came out and asked how we liked it. The actual service was so good that I’m willing to overlook the 5 — 10 minute confusion upon arrival. –Atmosphere: Kabuto has a huge parking lot, is a very large restaurant, and is easy to get to. There was hardly anyone there, but 1:00PM on a Sunday is a random time, so if you weren’t going for the ramen special, you probably aren’t there. –Side note reminder: This review is *just* for ramen. I don’t know how the hibachi experience is, and quite honestly, the prices on their normal menu look a little high(we were given a normal menu in the hibachi room). –Overall: It’s not often you get to say that a place is your absolute favorite or the best at something, but Kabuto’s ramen is by far my favorite ramen in Richmond. Outside of DC’s ramen, it’s easily my favorite ramen in the States(although I haven’t had ramen at places like NYC or the West Coast). I guess what I’m saying is this: If you know you like ramen, think you might like ramen, like noodles in general, or just want to give it a try, Kabuto’s ramen gets an absolute 5 star recommendation from me. I hope their quality stays consistent and they keep this going a long time, because if so, they will have a weekly set of customers. It’s that good.

Usually pretty good. Make sure you print the coupon before you come. Filet and shrimp are awesome. Hit or miss on your chef. Some guys are smoking good others are not so good. Older guy not so good. Total nickel and dime and charge for fried rice. It ain’t cheap but good.

I’ve been to a ton of Hibachi restaurants and Kabuto is an oldie in Richmond but still a goodie! My first trip with my kids was last night and they were very thoroughly entertained. The waiter brought them juice with umbrellas and a cherry as well as a children’s set of chopsticks which my husband and I enjoyed watching them try and eat their rice with. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend bringing your kids at a later dinner hour since like most Hibachi places you have group seating and I try to be aware of not disturbing others with my kids short attention spans. If your kids do get bored, you can take them to the entryway and check out the large fish pond! Kabuto seems to be priced a little higher than other area Hibachi restaurants but I feel you get more for your money here. Always a great show from the chef and the food is always awesome! Like some of the other reviewers have mentioned it’s definitely a good first date place.

Kabutos was a great spot for lunch. No waiting. seated immediately. The dining Room feels authentic with the décor and dimly lit room. The tables are seated around the grill. and the chef cooks everything right in front of you. We got one that liked magic tricks. He kept us very entertained while waiting for the food to cook. He was fun, friendly and talented. The server brought us complimentary soup and salad. Both were tasty and I ate every bite of them. My entrée was chicken teriyaki. It was very cool watching him cook it all on the grill, it makes your mouth water in anticipation.
