I purchased a beginner guitar and the touch and sound quality is very good. Had the strings changed after about one year old and still works fine

I’ve been a Guitar Works customer for many years with total satisfaction. I’ve purchased two Fender Strats and one Taylor acoustic from them. They do all my guitar setup and electronics work. Clarke Hedgepath, the current guitar tech and Brian’s right hand man, really knows his stuff and does great setup work and he’s a really nice guy to boot. The selection of guitars is limited compared to the big box stores, but the service and attention to detail is first rate. Highly recommended.

I brought in a mandolin purchased elsewhere to be checked and set up. Took longer then they had told me it would take, they put cheap strings on even after I specifically asked for certain strings. One string broke within a week, and I do not play hard. They charged me about $ 100, were very friendly advising me they could do it, and when I picked it up, got the feeling here you go buddy now out the door with you.

I used to live a few blocks from their store, and had them repair my Taylor after I had dropped it and cracked the body. They did a great job, and I continued to purchase strings and accessories from them. Just recently I decided I wanted a ¾ size nylon string guitar for traveling. I live in New York now and found what I was looking for locally at over $ 200. Then I checked the Guitar Works website and they had a similar or better model for $ 95 — plus they put good strings on it, set it up, and shipped it with a carrying case and strap. It arrived today and I couldn’t be happier. The quality is great, and their service and attention to detail can’t be beat. These guys take guitars seriously, and it shows. I would recommend Guitar Works to anyone, and I’m happy to know I can still use them as my go-to shop even though I no longer live in Virginia.

I ordered a used half size guitar from Guitar Works in Richmond and had it shipped out to me. I spoke with them and ordered over the phone since my Firefox browser had a problem with their site. The gentleman I spoke with was very helpful and I received the guitar(and book) about a week later. The condition for a used guitar was impressive and they included a case, some picks and a strap(I was able to choose the color of the strap). I was going to get a Yamaha student guitar(to replace one that had been lost), but I am happy I tried Guitar Works out since they set up the guitar and it appears to be good quality(made in China of course, but I hear most are now). I really don’t think there is much difference in quality between the(lost) Yamaha student guitar I purchased a couple years ago and the one from Guitar Works. What really separates this guitar from the rest is the package(case and strap) and the setup they do which is really important especially for a kid’s guitar where they may stop playing if it does not work properly. I’d highly recommend this store to anyone looking for a decent student guitar at a reasonable price. They have some videos on you-tube showing some of their student guitars and how they set them up which I also found helpful since I could not go to their store(they are across the country from me).

Update to my last review: It turns out not only do they have horrible customer service, but add«dishonest» to the list. I went to pick up the amp today and low and behold it was there. Ryan wasn’t…shocking. Anyway, even more shocking was that my amp had miraculously been repaired. Hmmmm… ok, what gives. Well, $ 100 later I’m out the door just glad to be done with the place. Wait…here’s the good part. I get home to test my amp out and I get no sound. I couldn’t believe it… are you telling me that they didn’t test this thing after they«fixed» it? Hold on… it gets better. Before loading the amp up and heading back over to GUITARWORKS, I decide to do something I should have done before… try another cable. BINGO…it works perfectly. As a matter of fact, I was never broken. I looked at the notes the repairman left on the amp and none of the«fixes» had anything to do with my original problem. It turns out that I had a bad cable, not a broken amp. A fact I’m sure they discovered, but decided to charge me $ 100 after making me wait for almost 4 weeks to return my amp. Touché’ GUITARWORKS… you got me good. Let me see what I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to others. Folks, this place is a rip off and has crap for customer service… at least this Ryan jerk does. There are many other places to purchase guitar supplies for better prices and with good customer service. Don’t get ripped off like I did. If you’re in Cary Town looking for a guitar shop, Metro Music has just moved in at their second location close to GUITARWORKS… give them a try. In the West end there is the Guitar Center. I’m sure there are others, but spend your money where you get the value and service you deserve. Not at GUITARWORKS.

I have a friend who takes guitar lessons here and really loves it! It’s a really good deal at $ 20 for one half-hour lesson and they have teachers for bass, banjo, and mandolin as well as guitar. You can set up a regular schedule of lessons, either a half hour or an hour long, with a standing appointment or you can schedule as you go, which often works better for busy professionals. Of course, it’s a music store as well, with a big variety of instruments and equipment.

I bought a custom guitar here for my girlfriend a few years back and had no complaints. The service was very friendly, very attentive, and help me(someone who knows nothing about guitars) pick out something for her(a beginner). I’ve also had ample friends purchase guitars here or have guitars fixed, tuned restrung, etc… No complaints.

I think this is the worst service I’ve ever received at any establishment, fast food included. I walked into Guitar Works with my setar, a very simple 4 stringed instrument(very similar to a guitar but smaller) in order to ask about getting it restrung. I was aware they may not be able to help me, but I thought they might try a little harder than they did. I waited patiently for about five minutes while the guy working there didn’t look up from playing the guitar. I was happy to see the cheerful«restrings while you wait!» signs littering the place. He begrudgingly found it in himself to acknowledge my existence. «Hi, I was wondering if you could take a look at this and tell me if you could restring it.» (without opening the case)“Oh no, we can’t do that. I have about 1000 guitars in the back that need to be worked on.“ I replied, a little shocked, «I could leave it, it doesn’t have to be right now.» «Oh no, we’re overwhelmed with business, I can’t work on this.» To his credit, as he said it, he looked at it, «This looks really easy to do. You could do it, just follow what the other person did.» «That’s my work, I tried, and I can’t.» He then shuffled off to help someone else without so much as a «sorry» or «goodbye.» Overwhelmed with business? I can assure Guitar Works that this is one less person’s business they won’t have to worry about being overwhelmed by.
