We tried this place and it was a bit overpriced and we received poor service. We ordered soda and it was flat. The place smelled bad on top of everything else. The food took too long and was brought to table at diferent times. Don’t waste your time and money, we won’t be back.

Went to use a Groupon type coupon at this restaurant today that is supposed to offer Sushi and Steak, they did have a Tuna dish and Teriyaki steak but it ends there. The only other customer in the restaurant asked for the sushi menu and was told they don’t offer it. Very disappointed. We did eat Tempura but it wasn’t prepared well. We won’t return

Our waitress was new so I’m trying to give her the benefit of the doubt but she literally could not multi task. I could see our food sitting there for the longest time. She literally brought it out one at a time, like you have two hands for a reason. Really??? On top of that the service was extremely slow with her just standing there… um, hello?!? My food is sitting there!!! I was so close to just walking up and grabbing it myself.

Expensive and bad service. We ordered a spider roll which was okay. Then a Filipino dish which was about $ 11.00 and boy was our face surprise when they brought a small bowl. Then my son ordered a kids plate took forever to come, hubby and I were almost done with our meal. The other dish we ordered was menudo which came after all the rice is gone. All of the meat in our dishes was super hard. Respectably, I think they need to up their game, learn to put the orders in order. Give a little more portions as the food is pretty expensive from what they charge. Don’t clean and have the whole room smell like clorox while we were still eating. I’m never ever coming back here again.

I came to the restaurant with my parents to check this place out. What an interesting experience. The food was a bit overpriced and quality was not the best. We ordered chicken wings and three sushi rolls. Also water and tea. It took quite a while to get that. The rolls came out before the chicken wings, weird. The rolls were OK, I’ve had way better for the same price. I hope the menu and food improve here, I don’t plan on coming back to eat here. Service was not very good and neither was the food.

Gio’s Sushi and Steakhouse was an interesting discovery while visiting the carnival at Hilltop Mall. I almost never come to this mall, but had to bring a little person to ride the rides. The restaurant name is a bit misleading because their menu only has two steak items on it, yet there is a plethora of sushi. I chose to order the shrimp tempura and chicken teriyaki to go because it i usually hard to mess that up. The restaurant looked a bit odd. It had an impressive wooden bar area with stools, but in front of it was an odd concrete floor space where a few random tables were placed. There were brick accents all throughout. The Asian chairs looked like they came from a Chinese restaurant and did not match the wall décor at all. There was an entry to the restaurant from the street and from inside the mall. The street entry is located on the side of JC Penney and Walmart. Upon receiving my order, I noticed the portion sizes were decent. The tempura vegetables were an onion(fail), carrot and a piece of squash with two shrimp. The tempura taste was non-descript. The chicken teriyaki had a grilled flavor, was very moist and tasty. The salad should have been called an onion salad. There were too many onions and very little dressing. Would I order from here again? If I were in the area and starving, perhaps. There are plenty of other places that I could order from that specialize in Japanese style food. The service was fair. Given the demographics of this area, I would recommend a Soul Food Mexican menu with more modest pricing. The highlight was when I ran into an old acquaintance and he said they have a new chef and they will soon be changing their menu to a fusion of soul food and something else. I told him that would be interesting to see and would like him to keep in touch with me so I can check out the new changes. They may also change the name of the restaurant once the menu changes so you would have to visit in a few months so see what it will be called. The venue also allows for musical artists to showcase their talents. They have a big event that is sold out tomorrow. I hope this place has a chance to make it. The restaurant size is good. With good research and marketing, they just might.

I couldn’t wait to try this place. I was looking forward to a nice dinner with my family we walked in and seated ourselves. The waiter gave us menus, we then ordered food. After waiting for 30 minutes the waiter then comes back and tells us that it’s going to be a 20 minute delay because there’s large orders that ordered before us. Mind you the restaurant only had one other family seated enjoying there meal. I noticed they were getting better service then ourselves. The waitress offered us missal soup. That didn’t come for another 15 minutes. My 6 year old was not offered anything and my 6 month old started to get tired. After waiting for an hour frustrated I took my 6 month old and waited in the car. My husband came ten minutes later with the food that cost over $ 38 all they gave us was complimentary chicken wings. The food over all was average.

My lady and I gave this place a chance and are convinced that we will never come back. What’s unfortunate is that they have a good space and a decent venue. We came in with only one customer inside and were seated right away. I ordered a sushi roll and my girl ordered a seared tuna salad. We asked for water with lemon to drink. 5 minutes later, she came back with water and no lemon and no straws. After the one customer left, we were the only customers inside. The wait for our food was too long knowing we were all alone in the restaurant. I actually got my sushi first before my lady got her salad, which is weird. Sushi was okay. Salad was average but the tomatoes just didn’t seem fresh. Paid and left. I hope you take this feedback the right way and improve.

Their sushies are pretty good but their ramen was just ugh. Thought it would be like a ramen ramen, but its just boiled noodles with veggies. NOTASTE at all. It’s like eating noodles with plain water. This place is pretty big and nice but the location is just the problem. This restaurant needs customers. Eating here is so depressing coz the aura is just so sad. Dark and no customers.

It was a Tuesday night. Place was empty, maybe about 3 other tables. Waitress was nice and did a good job overall but took a while to get our order considering that it was not busy. We ordered a bento combo which came with soup but we had to ask for it when the rest of the food came out. The chef had to get it for us when he was checking on us. Good thing was that the appetizer came before our entrees did. The wings which we had as our appetizer was very well cooked. We chose buffalo sauce. Pieces were deep fried to perfection and tossed with a decent amount of sauce. $ 6.95 for 6. Tuna sashimi, white & especially the ahi, were delicious cuts. Tasted fresh and the portion fit the price. I was satisfied. Bento box, shrimp tempura, chicken teriyaki, ca roll, was ok. Wasn’t fond of the teriyaki sauce but chicken was cooked ok. Ca roll was tasty. Tempura was alright. We will go back because we had a groupon so it was a decent deal and overall nice dining experience. The staff is kind over there.

One of the best sushi we had in a long time in this area.. This place is nice, big, clean, loved the music they play and FUN karaōke. ! All the specialty rolls were amazing !! Staff absolutely friendly. The owner came a few times to the table to check on us. Service was also notably friendly and attentive. We got the Groupon coupon and it worked perfectly well! they deducted the 30.00 out of the total of the bill . Also I am planning to have a fundraising for our son school and when I call they were very friendly and they will accommodate to all of our needs to make it happen !! We really enjoy our dinner !! Kids friendly atmosphere !!! We will defiantly go back !

I’ve been waiting to give this place a try for some time now, so after doing some makeup shopping, I walked in(6pm). I was seated fairly quickly there was only one other table. Our waiter brought us water andI told him I purchased a Groupon. We ordered quite a bit of food: spicy tuna roll, cali pokie, dragon roll, steak, garlic fries, gyoza, sashimi and some sake. We waited about 20 minutes for our first dish to come out and then they all started coming out SLOWLY. We got our appetizers after out sushi though… Sushi — was not tightly rolled. Each roll I’d pick up and dip would just start falling apart(splashing a little soy sauce on my top). Sashimi — did not seem fresh. Pokie — was flavorless and not fresh. Steak — bland and a bit over cooked. Garlic Fries — Not enough garlic. I asked for more, and they said they’d have to charge me $ 1. Throughout the whole dinning experience we found absolutely NOTHING we completely enjoyed. We had to wave down the workers a couple times water refills and napkins. The fact that the resturant wasn’t busy, you’d think the staff would pay more attention to your table, but instead they are just standing in one area talking to each other. Our bill came out to be a little over $ 100 and I was told my Groupon would only apply to one of our dishes. Which is weird because it says«$ 17 for $ 30 worth of food.» The owner started arguing with us saying that was the rule. The Groupon didn’t state that though. We just paid and left. No reason to stand there arguing with a dumb person. A couple extra dollars is not worth us going to jail for. I’m definitely NEVER returning again! Waste of money, time and energy.

What a rip off! I guess I shouldn’t have expected ACTUAL half decent Japanese food from a place inside the mall… Let’s just say the only reason I got a to-go box was so I can feed this«left over» to my dogs. AFTER I cook it to taste good, even for my pets. The sashimi was cut horribly with no technique what so ever, the sushi rolls were not solid and the rice would crumble as I delicately pick them up with chopsticks, the SPICYTUNA? More like«bland dead fish with no flavor». I couldn’t finish my rolls, they were just too upsetting. The SALAD… Oh My Fat Buddha. WORST salad ever. Literally a plate of chopped up Romaine lettuce hearts with 2 shreds of carrot. The seared«ahi tuna» had NOFLAVOR and barely any color. The last thing was service. The ONE server was very nice and definitely trying. But goodness, I could’ve gone into their kitchen and did all their dishes before we got any attention. $ 120 for 3 people. I spent less and ate wayyyyy better anywhere else. Will definitely NEVER come back The icing on the cake? We were waiting soooooo long to pay, meanwhile the owner(I assume since he walked around the place like he owned it) just meandered around, jaw jacking with some young girls the next table over. Absolutely amazing ramen noodles. All the ingredients were fresh and it is made to order. The steak that came on mine was tender and cooked perfect. The sushi however… well …was just average at best. Nice and clean inside. I would come here for the ramen. Sushi was too expensive for what they served.

I do not write many reviews and I try to avoid posting negative ones. I hope this may come across as constructive rather than negative. My dining companion had a Groupon for this place, so we wandered in on a Tuesday evening. There were 2 or 3 other tables of diners when we walked in, so it was not particularly busy. After placing the order for three rolls and yellow tail sashimi, the manager came up to us and said we can only use the Groupon for items from the Appetizer and Entrée sections of their menu. He said it is clearly spelled out in the Groupon description. That was not true. The only restriction was that you must order at least one food item, which we did. When confronted with the facts, the manager relented grudgingly, complaining that he can’t make money if he’s giving food away. I’m going to give the manager the benefit of the doubt on this one though. It may very well be that when he talked with the folks at Groupon, there may have been a language problem. In any event, it is up to restaurant management to work out any confusion with Groupon over the restrictions for use. Next, when our orders arrived, the server brought soy sauce, but I asked for the low-sodium soy. She seemed confused, so I think we were reaching another impasse regarding language. So she excused herself to «talk to the manager.» After about 5 minutes, our server returned with soy sauce in a small bowl. Sadly, it was not low-sodium soy sauce. Or it was the saltiest-tasting low-sodium soy that I’ve ever had the displeasure to taste. Whatever the case, I was starting to feel that the manager holds his customers(at least my dining companion and me) in contempt. Now, for the food we ordered. The yellowtail sashimi was mushy and falling apart when picked up by chopsticks. This was not delicately, thinly-sliced yellowtail. They were mushy and bland. The rolls we ordered were just as disappointing. Again, the fish was mushy and I honestly could not distinguish a difference in the bland taste between each of the rolls(we had a spicy tuna roll, Alaska Roll(salmon & avocado), and Rock & Roll(avocado and unagi). Aside from a mild heat in the spicy tuna and the sauce on the Rock & Roll, they all tasted the same. If there was avacado on any of the rolls, it was tasteless. And the fish in all the rolls we mushy and bland, just like the yellowtail sashimi. Was the manager skimping on us because of the Groupon? I don’t know. What I do know was that the food and the service were sub-par I cannot recommend Gio’s to my friends. One other thing is they have a large screen TV playing sports, which is fine, but it was so darned loud. Again, this was not a busy night and there was very little background noise for the TV to compete with. I suppose I could have asked to lower the volume and see if they would. The final topper was trying to get out of the place. Our server brought us the check, but it had not been adjusted for the Groupon discount. So she took the Groupon info and disappeared with the check for another 10 to 15 minutes. By the time we got the bill sorted away and paid, I would say it took about 20 — 30 minutes to get out of there. I have to say that our server was pleasant and did her best. But she was clearly not experienced and is in need to training. At no time did she come back around to top off our empty water glasses. I’m sure she will do a fine job when she gets more experience and training.

I first came here a week after they opened. I ordered chicken Ramen and barbecue with rice. Ok, I’m a person who puts fish sauce, soy sauce, or salt in everything I eat because I like my food like that so when I tell you that your Ramen is salty you’ve got to believe me. The head chef or I don’t know who that was came to my table and asked how everything was, of course, I told him that my Ramen tasted like ocean,(nah, I didn’t say that. Lol) tho I did tell him that the Ramen was indeed salty. He apologized and made me a new one. That’s very nice of him. I am very picky when it comes to what I eat. It’s very hard to please me when it comes to food. But when I tried their BBQ, damn! It was great. I loved it. They have sushi. The first time I was there, I only ordered Philadelphia roll. It was good, but the plating was great! A simple roll on a 5 star hotel plating! Impressive! 2 weeks after, I brought my family. My son ordered none other than Ramen! I tried it. Bam! Perfect! I love how they listened to their customers. That’s 5 points for me! I asked the sushi chef to make me a special roll and he obliged! That sushi chef needs a raise! He’s amazing! So if u want amazing food with amazing service then what are u waiting for?!

bad… bad… bad… i went to lenscrafters and saw this… me and wife decided to try this since the lenscrafters agent said this used to be the old Tokyo right across. The original Tokyo owned by the Taiwanese couple I believe was far better compared to the new owners. This newly opened, now called Gio’s didn’t offer any better… they have menu displayed outside the door. We looked and decided to give it a try. The girl server sat us down. I ordered tea and coke. we were given menu only to be told they cannot serve basically those i pointed. they have a lunch bento but cannot serve because its dinner time. but they said they still cannot serve dinner bento either or any of those at the back since it is not yet available. basically those available are just few choices, some rolls… me and my wife decided to just go. i told the server we are leaving, since my wife took a sip of soda and i never got my tea, i asked for check and paid for soda. my point here is why show a menu you cannot serve or not yet serving… and if they are the old Tokyo, why cant they serve the dinner bento… and sell lunch? if you are planning to come here, ask if they have what you like first before ordering drinks… because you will pay 4 bucks a soda before you leave if they didnt have what you like… VERDICT… A definite failure unless a drastic change happen… For a restaurant who is supposedly been open for how many months now, they are still looking to hire a sushi chef… Check their Facebook page and they are still looking to hire a sushi chef… Gio’s Steak and Sushi Restaurant is looking for the following: Sushi Chef * Sushi Helper * Must have minimum 2 years of experience as a Sushi Chef Able to multitask in fast paced environment Capable of preparing fish, sushi, and rolls I always go to different Japanese/Sushi restaurant and been to a lot and the last thing I want to see is for that that restaurant to be struggling to hire a sushi chef… «SUSHIISCONSIDEREDANARTANDNOTTHESAMEASCOOKINGPANCAKES…»
