Discovery United Methodist Church

The most refreshing hour of your week!!!
Discovery Methodist Chuch is a breath of fresh air compared to other churches that I have visited. Offering three one hour services on Sunday’s at 8, 9, and 11am, Discovery has a time that should work for most although I do miss the later service they once offered (I think it was 6pm).
Dr. Jim Lavender is the preacher there and he delivers sermons in a laidback fashion while incorporating currents events and humor to keep you intrigued. Each sermon is easy to understand and they even include cliff notes of the main points of the message on the bulletin with room to add your own notes. Everyone seems very nice and they welcome newcomers openly but are not overzealous. Scriptures and hymn lyrics are displayed on screens on each side of the pulpit and are also used to display visuals that are relevant to the days lesson.
My favorite thing about Discovery is the fact that there are a very active church. There are numorous activites for children of all ages and classes ranging from comedic improv to choreographed dance. They even have their own ‘glee!’ group. Dare I say this church is… hip? The place a stong emphasis on fellowship and family life and offers a mid week dinner on Wednesday’s for $ 6 per adult (not sure about for kids) and the more you buy the cheaper it is per meal (a plus for families!). The also have a nursery available for all church services which im sure is awesome for parents of newborns.
I have been going to church since a week after I was born (so, what’s that? 25 years!) and I have never been sad about not being able to make it to church until I attended Discovery.
