Best BBQ we’ve had since moving to Virginia(from Texas). Great local beer on tap. Had the brisket taco, jalepeno mac n’ cheese and cornbread. Also munched off my husbands two meat combo(pork and brisket) which had amazing flavor. He got Texas Caviar and cole slaw on the side. Amazing. All three homemade BBQ sauces are delicious. Two thumbs up!

A nice local barbeque joint on the West End off Gayton Rd. The wife and I decided to try this place out for lunch mid-week and it was good. Not great, but solid. The wife got the pulled pork sandwich, sweet potatoes & cornbread. The pork had a nice, smoky flavor(just wished that there was more of it), the sweet potatoes were good(could have used some marshmallows to finish the casserole feel), and the cornbread(despite the best efforts of the house butter) was very dry. My measuring stick for all barbeque restaurants is brisket, so I started there via a sandwich. While the flavor was good, it was a little on the dry side(not to mention, only getting two slices of it on the sandwich). The fries were potato wedges vs. traditional fries; other than that, not much to write home about. All in all, DRR didn’t do anything particularly wrong, but they didn’t do anything extraordinary either. Now that RVA has seemingly been overrun with quality barbeque spots that have more noteworthy fare(I’d take the brisket at Q or pork at Buzz & Ned’s over DRR any day), I don’t suspect that DRR will be a destination for me in the future. Wouldn’t veto, but wouldn’t emphatically recommend either.

It was a slow Saturday and the food wasn’t hot enough. Taste and beer selection were good though.

We eat here quite a bit but I haven’t reviewed for some reason. A little while back, I started eating vegetarian. It’s hard to find good veggie fare… and I craved a burger. Then I found the portabello sandwich here. OMG! It is unreal how delicious it is. Juicy yet well done, perfect char, great seasoning but not too much. It’s harmony. Add a touch of the bbq sauce and coleslaw on top and this is perfection. I have to refrain myself or I’d do every day.

Certainly the best barbecue place I’ve been to! Everything is well made with good food material, fresh and full of flavor.

Not sure what i can say. They are the best bbq around the Richmond area. The brisket is the best and the burnt ends.

We enjoyed a delicious and quick dinner at Deep Run RoadHouse: ordered up at the counter and our food was at the table in less than 20 minutes!(It was a slow night, so wait time may vary). The menu has a ton of options and something for everyone. My father, whom isn’t too fond of BBQ(I don’t understand why), had the Fried Catfish, which even I thought was good! Perfectly crispy and not too fishy tasting. My mother and I split a Two Meat Platter(ribs & chicken breast)-both the ribs AND the chicken breast were perfectly juicy(even though white meat tends to be dry) and nicely smoked. We also enjoyed some side dishes: –Mac & Cheese: really good Mac & cheese-plenty of flavor, not oily… just…really good! –Cornbread: The sweet kind that everyone likes. Moist, and topped with a yummy honey butter. –Cowboy Beans: baked beans that are more on the tangy side rather than sweet. –Collard Greens: not over-cooked and mushy like many are. Nice flavor. –Potato Wedges: no description needed-it’s hard to mess these babies up! For dessert, DRR offers a selection of homemade pies that varies daily. I had the Chocolate Chess Pie, which reminded me of a half-baked brownie-it was really good, but slices are small! A great place overall for a casual dinner and good BBQ(or Mexican, if you’re more into that).

We are sampling for our wedding and got basically everything we could. All I can say is that this place is delicious! If you are in the area and want a great BBQ spot, this is the place to go. Bravo Zulu! Wish there was one closer to Virginia Beach. However, we just talked to someone about catering and the woman who handled us was very unhelpful and short

Fair Texas style BBQ. Sides surpass the que, which is damning, I know. Visited again recently. Brisket is still weak. Brisket IS Texas barbecue so it’s difficult to award this restaurant a good review when what should be its signature dish is poor to average.

It was our first visit here and it was really good. The freshness of the food was great, the guy taking our order gave us great suggestions and boy was he right on! My daughter is a picky eater and she was instantly loving the pull pork and oddly enough she liked a lot cherry bourbon sauce. The brisket melts in your mouth, the bison burger was awesome!(Says my husband) the sweet potatoes(side) Omg!!! Every single food was great! We will definitely be coming back!

We just love the Deep Run Roadhouse. The Texas Trainwreck is our favorite item. Leave room for home made Key Lime pie.

It’s a local business. Yay for local business! That, in itself, is a good reason to give it a try! The service was good, but they do not have table-side service. You order at the counter and serve yourself drinks and condiments and your food is delivered to your table. The interior still isn’t very inviting. It is basically one big room with a modern paint job, tiny wall art and huge, old wooden booths. The décor feels kind of disjointed. They could use a little help from an interior designer. Our second visit to DRR was a game changer. The food was great! I confirmed that everything is made from scratch, with the exception of the bread and the sausage. Yay for homemade! I didn’t see any mention of anything that listed ingredients, nutritional value or spoke to the quality of the ingredients, i. e, all natural, nothing artificial, organic, etc. I hope to see more establishments moving in that direction as demand increases. The brisket was cooked to perfection and the pulled pork was spot on delicious. I’d never had a brisket sandwich with peppers and onions and it was very tasty. We had the mac ‘n cheese, potato salad, and sweet potatoes(with pepper, which I LOVED). There were more sauce options on this visit, which was also a plus. IMHO, stop by if you’re in the mood for some cue and a beer without the restaurant ambiance or pickup some deliciousness to go! Barbecue makes great take out.

Brisket, when placed in your mouth hole it melts. Train wreck burritos are a thing of beauty and excess. # whyareamericans fat. Sides are amazing. Coleslaw, mack and cheese more like crack and cheese. With jalapeño. Best BBQ in Richmond. Fried pork chop. On this visit I ordered the Bacon cheese burger. THEYSMOKETHEIROWNPEOPLE. How awesome is that? Who doesn’t like. nay love bacon. My daughter ordered the fall off the bone BBQ chicken. Yum. Corn bread and mack n cheese. 5 Stars No Brainer.

Been back a few times since my last review and this place is definitely growing on me. DH and I have enjoyed brisket, bison burgers and a particularly good sandwich called The Chokehold, which is a smoked sausage, brisket, smothered with grilled onions and peppers. Lots of great sides from which to choose! So feel free to make yourself a platter!

The thing that will impress upon you when you first enter is that this venue smells like a BBQ place should. Smokey goodness. Their menu hanging on the wall can take a moment to read, but if you just want a quick plate of barbecue, just check out the right side of the board describing the platters and sides. I’ve eaten here twice in the past week, and taken the food to go both times. But I was served quickly by a friendly staff. I had chicken barbecue both times with a side of macaroni and cheese. I’m not a fan of mac-n-cheese in particular, but I have no complaints about theirs. It was cooked well and had a nice consistency and flavor. The chicken barbecue was a bit dry — or maybe I’m just used to Q’s in Midlothian, but again, I enjoyed my meal and I will be back. :-)

Good bbq… same menu as Alamo downtown. I think the chef/owner used to work there and took his menu with him. I have had most meats and all are pretty good. Good selection of sides, but as with most bbq places you only get a small size portion. Casual dining room and friendly staff.

I have been coming here for some time now and have always enjoyed the food. I love the brisket. Brisket tacos are my favorite with the slaw. Add grilled onions & peppers and it awesome. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, and reasonable prices, especially if you get the special. Have tried other BBQ joints in the Richmond area but Deep Run Roadhouse is still my favorite. Glad to have found them. I always recommend to my friends(or anyone looking for good BBQ)

Another 5 star review because today’s BBQ Brisket Sandwich was over the top good! It’s Championship Award Winning Brisket and sauce on a fresh roll with the best homemade slaw I’ve ever had. I could eat these daily. I have never been through these doors at Deep Run Roadhouse and left without feeling like I know something others don’t and I want to tell them about it… this place is excellent… I’ve discovered the spot that I like best when it comes to BBQ and Deep Run Roadhouse is it… The Pulled Pork and Brisket are so good you’ll feel the same, trust me. Customer service is top notch and there is always room with two separate rooms and your choosing of tables and booths. If you see Santa in the next few weeks please just tell him I want a gift certificate for Deep Run Roadhouse… I’ve been good this year!

Two words: try it. Guarantee you won’t be disappointed. First the service. The lady at the front was very kind. We were first timers and she explained everything to us in a very nice manner. When we asked her what she liked and what was most popular she told us her top picks and recommendations. I ended up ordering the train wreck with brisket in a bowl rather than a tortilla. She asked if I like spicy food and when I told her yes she went ahead and substituted the Mac and cheese for the jalapeño one. I also checked in with Unilocal and got a free side so I picked the sweet potatoes. The food came out within 5 mins, it was crazy fast. The baked beans, corn bread, and Mac and cheese were awesome. The brisket was probably the best I’ve had. And lastly the sweet potatoes were to die for. Very sweet but perfectly made. Will definitely make my way back here.

I had made a promise to myself that when we had out of town guests come for a visit, I was going to recommend this yummy restaurant. It turns out that our party of 12 was quite diverse. Everyone ordered something different and started sharing! Even the kids were happy! We sat in the large event room and once again throughly enjoyed our entire experience! Don’t miss out! 5 stars x 12! I’ve been back several times now and try something different each time. Have yet to be disappointed!
