This restaurant never disappoints! Food is always delicious and service on point. Tonight soft crab appetizers, shrimp beignets and rockfish. The lemon butter cake was even better than expected. Ambience is comfortable. Elegant but not stuffy. Plotting to go back… sigh…

Chez Foushee has an overall nice atmosphere. It’s in a great location and our experience came with great customer service. The food was okay, could have used a bit more flavor. We visited this place during restaurant week and was excited to try their menu selections. The potato and leech bisque was Amazing, but my red beans and rice lacked the mouthful flavor that I was anticipating. Dinner was followed by dessert, I selected the key lime cake/cheesecake and it was amazing. Overall, would I go back or recommend this place to anyone, I more likely would, but it wouldn’t be at the top of my selections.

Came here on Valentine’s Day and it was a very good experience, just the right amount of class to enjoy a nice brunch. Firstly, I want to mention that the free parking people are mentioning is in the lot just slightly east of the restaurant(on Grace). It will say in small type at the bottom-most part of the sign that Chez Foushee customers can park there. I had to hunt for this sign a bit myself, don’t want to get towed on V-day! While I made a reservation for 11 am, there apparently was no need to: it was mostly empty both when we arrived and when we left. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and very reminiscent of other European restaurants I have been to. We were quickly seated and seen by our server, who relayed the specials and drink options to us. I opted for a mimosa and my date some hot tea. The mimosa was good, though I suppose I expected something a little nicer on the champagne end for $ 9 a glass. We both opted for the eggs benedict, which was pleasantly presented and tasted great. The fruit that came with it was less enticing and a bit chewy, though the omelette part was memorably delicious. When other tables came in, our server disappeared a bit more than I would have liked, though perhaps he was just giving us our space. Sometimes it’s hard to tell. In summary, I would consider coming here for brunch again, though this might not be my top pick. Overall: 3.5 stars — — — — - Pros: — Omelets are delicious and nicely presented. — Interior is attractive and well-suited to a nice date or professional meeting. — Free parking is a nice bonus, especially in this area. Cons: — Service is a bit middling, perhaps not the ideal European experience. — Mimosa was weak, recommend against getting it. Same for the fruit side of the meal.

Sooo disappointed. Terrible service. Waited 90+ minutes for food. Then when we did get our food my fish was so dry I didn’t eat it. Braised short ribs were fine… not $ 25 of fine, but edible. Overall, mostly a waste of time and money.

Pork was overcookd and desert was bad. Everything was very dry and overcookd, including the fish we had. Can’t recommend Jason the waiter was attentive but it doesn’t improve the experience.

Came to Chez Foushee during Restaurant Week and it was amazing! Although at the time I wished they had done their regular menu that week on top of the Restaurant Week menu, in hindsight it forced me to go out of my comfort zone which I really enjoyed. I can’t tell you exactly what I had, but salmon was involved as was a potato dish and salad and lemon butter cake. The service was top notch, drinks were on point, and the spot is so sexy! I love, love loved the atmosphere. Perfect place for a rehearsal dinner, engagement party, or milestone birthday dinner. This is now added to the list of places to recommend to out-of-towners! Everyone in my party ate everything. The portion sizes were absolutely perfect. Can’t wait to go back!

I’ve been going to Chez Foushee for four years and I can say this is a real deal Richmond institution. I’ve gone for everything from lunch to dinner to apps to drinks and have never had a bad meal. Their white bean hummus is the best I’ve ever had in my life, I always order it! I’m also a huge fan of their salads, normally I don’t order salads out, but I make an exception with them. There’s always a super interesting component, like a nut brittle or a seasonal veggie. Chez Foushee’s service is impeccable. There’s rarely any turnover and at least one owner is always there to greet you. I will continue to go to Chez for as long as I’m in Richmond. BTW. Their lemon butter cake is everything. Get it or else.

Oh my goodness, Chez Foushee is so darn charming! A cute little white tablecloth establishment set back in time replete with creaky wood floors, tall ceilings, arching windows, and antique furnishings! At first the brunch menu seemed limited, but flip it over and there is a whole ‘nother page! We tried the Duck Confit hash & Eggs(yum!), the Breakfast Gnocci(yum). We finished it up with the lemon butter cake– a sort of cheese cake in a shortbread crust with raspberry couple and candied lemon peel. OMG good!!! Seriously! This dessert is one of the best I have every had, anywhere– and there appears to be a story– this creation was serendipitous! GETIT! Save room, force yourself, but by all means have this special dessert! Nice one, Richmond!

This place was fantastic! My girlfriend took me here for my birthday dinner. Our waiter was helpful and friendly. We started off with the fried oyster appetizer — it was delicious. The bread was fresh and warm. For the main course, I ordered the roasted duck, and she ordered the salmon special. The salmon was great, and it came with excellent corn. As for the duck — it was incredible! My girlfriend took me here because I love duck and she heard it was very good — it was probably the best duck I’ve had. For dessert, we had the crème brûlée and the lemon butter cake. Both were very good. We can’t wait to go back again. The water was cold.

Had dinner here tonight and really enjoyed it. I feel like more often than not, I am disappointed when eating out but the potato encrusted grouper was fantastic – tender & crunchy, with an excellent tomato butter sauce and delicious slaw. The ‘famous’ lemon butter cake was good, but more like a lemon cheesecake like others have pointed out. Highly recommended if you’re in the area!

Went for brunch this Sunday. Enjoyed the jazz. The space is light, open and airy — love the high ceilings and the fairly minimalist, but tasteful, décor. Service was AMAZING. really nice and attentive staff who were friendly and professional. The food? Well… not bad, but not amazing or, I think, worth the price. My $ 18 special of apparently previously frozen and truly overdone soft shell crabs would have disappointed me at even half the price. However — I would go back for lunch, or a future brunch. I’d stick with a Po Boy or maybe gumbo. Good news is they have free parking in a lot down the block.

Decent food. Good service. Took girlfriends parents for Mother’s Day. If you spend $ 200 on brunch for four in Richmond, you shouldn’t be rushed out after an hour and fifteen minutes after being seated. Ending was completely unacceptable. As soon as we paid the owner(?) came over and asked us to leave before we finished our bloody Mary’s. Not our problem you overbooked. Lots of better, if not friendlier, options

Brunch here today with friends. Very busy but able to get a good table. Menu was unique and waiter was attentive! Problem was the kitchen! After ordering, we waited almost an hour for the food to arrive. Plates were attract but NOT worth an hour wait!

From the server we had to the food itself — excellent! We started off with the shrimp and grits appetizer which was rich but small; my husband got the ribeye which had a creative butter on top; I took our servers recommendation and got the grouper — the presentation and tastes were fantastic! We finished the night with their warm toffee caramel pudding and lemon cake — two very different but equally delightful tastes! Overall excellent and highly recommended for dinner :)

All was good but the highlights the meal were: gumbo Brussel sprout salad with pecans Lemon cake(like a lightly lemon flavored cheesecake) The service was excellent and the ambiance was prefer for our anniversary dinner.

I’ve been wrestling with myself over whether or not I’d give Chez Foushee a four or five star review. Four doesn’t feel generous and I didn’t eat an entrée, so is five exactly proper? After much reflection, I can wholeheartedly answer that question with yes. I went to see a national tour of the musical«Chicago» at the Altria Theatre and researched restaurants in the area for an entire week. Chez Foushee was pretty much what I’d decided on from the very start, but I wanted to be SURE. As I reviewed what the menu would be on the day in question, I found that to be an additional battle. Quite literally everything on the menu looked delicious. Would it be worth it? I mean, honestly, I love a good Caesar salad but I don’t want to order that when I’m going to a place for the first time, do I? The menu had me narrow down on either the grilled pork loin special with a bacon and pea risotto or select a few appetizers. Choosing the appetizer route so I could get a taste of several dishes proved to be a wise decision, although a nearby table ordered the pork loin special and I was pretty jealous. ITWASGIGANTIC. There were two very generous cuts of meat over a lot of risotto. For the price, that was a COMPLETESTEAL. It was definitely enough for two meals. Now for what I actually ate, they brought freshly baked bread that was pretty delicious. I initially planned on three appetizers but selected two so as not to overindulge. I started with the crispy sweetbreads. They were plated on a lemon butter sauce with tomatoes, scallions, and capers. It was HEAVENLY. And I hate that word. I really love to order escargots when I have the option(it wasn’t an option here on this day) but if more places offered a crispy sweetbreads appetizer this good, I’d be telling those snails to skedaddle. For the second appetizer, I ordered the duo of country and chicken liver pates. They both proved to be delicious. The country pâté was wrapped in bacon and was quite tasty. I preferred the chicken liver pâté a little more, but both are delicious and I think it’d really come down to personal taste. The dish is served with cornichons, dijon mustard, and crostini. As for the service? COMPLETELY top notch. I came in without a reservation, and let me tell you now, you’d be wise to make one. I witnessed two parties being turned away because they already had enough reservations on file. I was sitting near the front and I was able to overhear enough of the entering parties. What I realized was that I was one of two walk-in parties. And hell, when the food is THIS good, you’ll want to be sure that you get to eat it. My server, I believe his name was Richard, was very attentive and a total pro. He made several rounds to refill the drinks of every necessary table. It seems like the staff here all really help each other out, because he wasn’t the only one refilling tea and water. I’m DEFINITELY making this a destination point.

Definitely between 3 and 4. I recently went with my fiancé and we had a pretty good experience. We were greeted pretty quickly when we entered, although we got kind of a stuffy, «did you make a reservation?» We started with the pimento cheese. It was tasty and the portion was good. Next we each had a salad– my fiancé had the Caesar and was pleased. I was disappointed there was only one option without anchovies or bacon, so I had the market salad, which was ok. It was described as having red leaf lettuce, but was made with another variety, and the tomatoes weren’t great, being that it’s February. For our entrees we had the red fish special with winter veggies and horseradish, which was well-cooked overall very good, and the gnocchi which was also very good. Good atmosphere, service, and food. We’ll probably be back.

Chez Foushee is one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. Its décor is so classy and romantic, and you can’t go wrong on a date here. They like to change their menu with time, but the best dishes I have had here by far are the Chicken Scaloppini and the Duck Breast. The chicken scaloppini may not sound like anything amazing, and believe me, I don’t usually order chicken from nice restaurants such as this, but it was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The duck breast was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. I have tried their white chocolate martini but it was a little too strong for me and I could barely finish half. I took off 1 star because my experience here during restaurant week wasn’t as good as the regular visits. Their pork loin and mahi mahi were not as spectacular as their other dishes. Until my last visit here I received their complementary bread paired with AMAZING homemade butter– so I hope it’s not true that they took this away recently.

Another Richmond Restaurant Week experience. I think you can see a trend if you keep up with my reviews. So I have always passed this place and it took awhile for me to notice the building. It’s on Grace Street and you start to notice the abundance of awesome places to eat at whenever one drives down. Once inside, it is quite charming and elegant in its décor. Almost reminds me of Julep’s, but with brighter setting. We were immediately seated towards the upper level, which left us right beside a table below us. A bit weird since we could hear them and they could hear us most likely, but what can you do? The Food. –Shrimp Remoulade(pictured): This reminds me of shrimp cocktail really. Not bad, but not spectacular. –Laurel Brined Pork Loin(pictured): Now this was good. I loved the sauce it came with and the ragout really added to the dish. –Lemon Butter Cake(pictured): This was absolutely divine. Seriously sweet with some tartness to it. Emphasis on the butter since it’s oh so smooth. –Almond Shortbread Stack(pictured): This was such a light dessert and very subtle in flavor out of the three I tried. Good pick if you’re stuffed! –Chocolate Mousse Torte(pictured): Okay, so if you’ve ever been to the Cheesecake Factory and ordered the Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake… this dessert reminds me of that. So rich! The Service. I’ve gotta say that… this place may have too good of service. I say this since we seemed to have 2 waiters/servers who were always making sure our table was refilled and had the appropriate utensils. One waiter came in with a knife, another came with knife and realized I already had one. He came back again, when he realized I needed a «serious» knife for my pork loin. Quite amusing and pleasant! TIP: they have a parking lot about a block away, so no worries about street parking like I did. Overall, a lovely place to eat at with the most attentive service.
