I went to Capcity Cupcakes two months ago. The Food Network Cupcake Wars sign in the window lured me into the shop. The staff kindly greeted me at the door. I ordered 2 cupcakes(A vanilla & bacon cupcake). Both cupcakes were moist and the icing complimented the cake very well(not overly sweet). The cupcakes were reasonably priced compared to other cupcake shops in the area. Capcity Cupcakes is located on VCU campus in a small shop on Broad St. The shop is easy to miss because it blends in with apartments close by. Parking is hit or miss depending on the day and time. Capcity Cupcakes is a good choice for cupcakes in the Downtown Richmond/VCU area.

I kept noticing this small bakery with its Food Network Cupcake Wars sign while driving down Broad St. I finally decided to swing by with a friend after having lunch. The shop was pretty tight [there’s probably only room for about 4 – 6 people to fit comfortably inside] and they have a pretty limited selection of cupcakes out on their counter. The cupcakes were quite cheap compared to other cupcakeries though – my bacon cupcake was only $ 2.10 with tax included! The cake itself was better than those found at Carytown Cupcakes in my opinion and I also preferred their icing. Though the icing isn’t the prettiest and is on the verge of being overwhelmingly sweet, I liked the texture and the saltiness of the bacon really helped balance things out. The service was pretty lackluster here though. The guy working wasn’t the most charming person and didn’t help us while we were trying to decide on which cupcake to get. I think I just always expect bakeries to have more inviting personnel. Overall, I think they have a good cupcake for a reasonable price. Food: 3 Value: 3 Service: 2.5 Overall: 3
