The best sushi RVA has to offer with reasonable prices, too. Very authentic atmosphere, as well and fantastic service.

Excellent sushi and dumplings. I wasn’t feeling super adventurous, so I stuck to the California roll, a cumcumber roll, and gyoza, all of which were some of the best I’ve had in Richmond. I called in the order to pick up for takeout which was ready in about 15 – 20 minutes.

Great sushi. Picked it up to go, everything was ready when we got there and amazing when we got home!

This Japanese restaurant is vey petite, yet it satisfies your craving for authentic Japanese food. We order the lunch combo, chirashi rice bowl(raw fish on top of a bowl of rice) and two sweet shrimp sushi. The owner hops around to greet customers and makes causal conversation, which makes me believe they are all loyal customers. As the food arrives, I have to say the chirashi is just happiness in one bowl. The variety and the quality of the seafood are out of my expectation, the flavor/texture/temperature of the rice are all in perfection. The presentation of the sweet shrimps is impressive! Overall, great food and great place! Definitely should give it a try if you are looking for authentic Japanese restaurant in RVA. :)

Sadly the quality here has gone way downhill. More rice less fish. I used to LOVE this place, they made great sushi. Too bad they seem more concerned with volume than good food. Still tastes good and super nice people, just not worth the cost.

Best sushi, hands down, in Richmond! I first went when they were at their old location, and have been a regular since they moved to their Robinson location. I order takeout at least once a week as I live only a few doors down. The salmon, eel, and white tuna sashimi is some of the best I’ve had. Akida also does awesome rolls, with great flavors but they keep it simple enough so that you’re not getting an overwhelming bite. I’ve had rolls from other sushi restaurants that have the kitchen sink, but Akida’s rolls are well thought and well balanced. I recommend the Christmas Roll and the Robinson Roll. The two ladies that run the place are awesome as well.

The best sushi in Richmond. Period. Chill and intimate atmosphere. I have been here numerous times, everything is always super fresh and comes out extremely fresh. You are able to sit at the bar area and watch it all go down if you want to. Fried or Steamed Dumplings Shrimp Tempura Spicy Seafood Salad Spider Roll Shrimp Tempura Roll Rainbow Roll Rice Balls Crazy Dragon Roll Volcano Roll Crispy Roll All really dope choices

Used to eat here with my daughter a couple of years ago when she was a VCU student, and it was just a little hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant. Akida has moved a few blocks, and is still little more than a hole-in-the wall, but the sushi experience with my daughter this weekend was just as enjoyable as in the past. The sushi bar was/is a small wooden corner bar with 7 or 8 stools — seems like they transported it directly from the old location. Still only a handful of tables which gives Akida a comfortable atmosphere. Sit at the sushi bar, and you will receive a complimentary sushi appetizer(as well as very prompt service). The fish selection is typical fare — uni is on the menu but I’ve never known them to have it(admittedly only 6 – 7 visits over 3 years). They didn’t have uni this Saturday… Several dozen rolls and specialty rolls — enough that there is surely something for everyone. Some specifics on this visit: 1) Squid salad and spicy seafood salad were atop lettuce and cucumbers — not what one would normally expect, but good just the same. Spicy seafood/rolls here are mayonnaise based, not my favorite but again O.K. 2) I had the clam soup v. miso soup, and it was excellent. There were five clams in shells in a perfect broth. I’d come here for this soup alone. Order it! 3) My daughter had rolls and sashimi and loved it. Her boyfriend had cooked fare and seemed to enjoy it. I had several orders of sushi(tuna, salmon, yellowtail, mackerel, and wasabi tobiko). An odd critique, perhaps, but the fish slices were much larger than the rice beneath. I suppose most people would consider this a positive, but the balance was not quite right. As well, the chefs had cut a number of fish strips in advance, which were sitting in the case. No less tasty, but off-putting to those expecting a personal sushi dining experience. If you’re a local, you won’t pay much attention to my review — you already know what you’re getting. If I were a local, I wouldn’t hesitate to dine here several times a week. I could get used to Akida as my local sushi hangout, even with the limitation in fish selection. If you’re from out of town(and a sushi roll aficionado), definitely give it a try.

Akida always delivers. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is friendly and the food comes out fairly fast for a sushi restaurant. Only issue is that there is limited seating so get there early or plan to wait.

The special combo price is, indeed, a ridiculous deal as has been echoed repeatedly in other reviews. The space itself is small and charming, with attentive waitstaff [my teacup was rarely empty, and for that, they are precious to me]. Getting in to sit can be a bit of an issue, given the size, but once seated, things go smoothly and swiftly and the food is quite tasty. I hesitate to call it the best sushi in the area, but I cannot claim to honestly be a proper connoisseur of the stuff, just an appreciative fan. I’ll certainly go back, especially if i find myself craving sushi at ten at night, since they’re open a hair later than most other spots worth going.

This place is absolutely delicious. I especially loved the Sashimi, which isn’t really described on the menu; they just show sushi. So yummy and nice sized portions. Friendly employees. The only downside is that it’s so small — you’re likely to wait most nights.

Akida’s new location is now more centered in the fan on Sheppard St. The menu and atmosphere, great services and overall ambience is the same or even better … Still the best Sushi in town, I prefer the Unagi Don. The rolls and special rolls are incredible. Also try this place for lunch because here is where you get a great bargain — the lunch plate specials like Salmon Teriyaki.

Arguably the best sushi in the Richmond area, that is if you want quality sushi as opposed to the pure quantity of food you can get for your buck at Sushi King. Tried the chirashi for the first time, and it was not disappointing at all. Plus it was cheaper than the dine in special! The chirashi had a really great variety of fresh and sweet sashimi pieces on a bed of vinegared rice with seaweed salad. Very satisfying and filling for the price.

We had to stand in the tiny crammed lobby for about half an hour before being seated, but once seated we ordered and received our sushi quickly. I ordered the Akida roll, I highly recommend it!!!

I was very weary of trying sushi in RVA since I am use to eating such fresh sushi when I lived at the beach but I decided to hold the white flag and try. Akida was my choice of the night thanks to Unilocal. The place is a small hole in the wall restaurant right next to buddys, definitely easy to miss. It was very busy but we got seated very quickly and the space itself is about 6 tabels and a small bar. The service is very quick and the menu had a large variety of rolls. The ladies are so quick and its only just the two of them too. I decided to order my go to rolls the spicy tuna roll and California as well as the specialty roll the double spicy. The rice to fish ratio was nice and I like that they put crunchy panko on the inside. I personally dont think that the rolls were spicy or even close to a mild but it was filling. I left satisfied and stuffed and for a reasonable price. Overall it wasnt bad but I wouldn’t say its my favorite either.

Our favorite sushi spot in Richmond. It doesn’t have a happy hour but when you are this good you don’t need one. If you are looking for cheap sushi this isn’t the place for you.

Best Sushi in RVA and you can’t beat their Special Combination price. The appetizers are delicious and the service is so quick! You’ll be in and out and completely satisfied before you can blink. Highly recommended.

Generic, borderline grocery store-quality sushi. There’s nothing offensive about the food, but it’s no different than any other sushi bar in the area. Given the relatively small space and loud atmosphere, I’ll go elsewhere for my sushi fix.

Digging the new space, newer and cleaner than the Robinson location, although almost identical in every other way. My favorite sushi spot in RVA and they haven’t missed a beat with the move. Reasonably priced, good, quick service and great sushi on all facets.
