First off, I’m the guy Wilford Brimley shakes his head at when it comes to sweets so this fat kid knows where to find primo sweets and treats. That being said, where do I start with the deliciousness that is conjured up at this place? From the sky high cakes, by the slice or whole(butter pecan, vanilla salted caramel, and the chocolate fudge are for real to die for and some of my hands down favorites) cookies, whoopie pies, to the brownies, macaroons, oatmeal crème pies and the list goes on and on. All of which are made with love and it shows with every bite. The owner, Alicia, is absolutely amazing and always greets people with a smile and a conversation. I am so happy that she has opened up shop in a spot that had big shoes to fill being as it was the former shyndigz location. They have blown it out of the park!!! It’s a quaint boutique with a few tables to enjoy there and enjoy her New Orleans inspired decorations. They always have good tunes playing while they are slanging RVA’s finest desserts. To sum it up, just do yourself a favor and get in there! I’m glad to call this place my first thought for desserts in all of RVA!

First time visit to APIAPT. I picked up a brownie and an oatmeal cream pie sandwich thing, both to go. Amazing. The brownie was dense, moist, and had a great chocolate flavor. I had called ahead to see if they carried brownies(who calls ahead to scope out desserts, right?), and the guy told me that the brownies are a «decent size.» Total undertstatement, the brownies are quite large. My wife made an ice cream sundae out of her portion. The oatmeal crème pie was also amazing. The oatmeal cookies had a great flavor, not bland or anything. They were a little on the crisp side, but they weren’t dried out like some oatmeal cookies can get. The cream for the pie filling was also great. Your typical oatmeal crème pie uses a sweet, white icing that mainly tastes of cream and sugar. APIAPT adds flavoring to their filling. I am not sure what spices they used but the filling complemented the oatmeal cookies perfectly. I definitely recommend the dessert. Didn’t have any of their cakes but based on my experience so far, I will definitely be back to try the cakes. One last note– the service was great. People were very nice. Glad to have APIAPT in the neighborhood.

[Based on welcome feedback from the owner, I’ve updated this review to more accurately reflect some new developments since I was last there…] This family owned business opened in the location formerly occupied by dessert purveyor Shyndigz. It isn’t completely clear to me, but it seems that APIAPT primarily wants to sell you high end desserts(cakes, pies, etc.) which you preorder with at least 48-hours notice. Prices are steep… $ 40 for a ten-inch cake. The one cake I saw looked great. They also have a retail storefront where you can buy cake slices, cupcakes, whoopie pies, and small individual serving desserts. There really isn’t much seating and there are no waiters. The cupcakes were so-so… better than a supermarket but a far cry from Pearl’s Cupcakes just up the street(of course comparing anybody to Pearl’s is kind of unfair). The whoopie pies were great, probably the best I’ve ever had. They are open for cake by the slice on fri/sat nights!

I will have to say I’m a huge fan of A Peach In A Pear Tree! Having knowing the proprietor for quite some time, some could say I have a biased opinion, but that is not the case. The dessert selections are always fresh and tasty. The baker is very meticulous is ensuring that the tongue is pleased by the blend of flavors from the Five flavor pound cake to Chocolate Chunk Cookies to Brownies. I’m personally looking forward to a storefront coming to the Richmond area and believe Richmonders will enjoy the decadent Southern flair that is about to be a staple of Metro Richmond and surrounding areas.
