Really disappointed! We came in on a Saturday afternoon and almost immediately left because of the loud terrible pop/dance music blaring. They were kind enough to turn it down. The beer was«eh.» We had 4 adults and 3 kids and waited way too long for service. When the food came out, it came out 2 at a time and we had to wait a good 10 – 15 minutes for everyone to get their plates. The waiter was unsure of what the dishes were that he was serving. I had the hot brown, which he gave to someone else because he had no idea what it was. The chicken was like a rubbery tire and the bacon was pale and soggy. The burgers were good, so maybe stick to that. No apology or acknowledgment was made of the delay in getting our food out. Won’t go again unless I just want a beer.

Came here for my second visit today. First visit the beer was great, food was not. Sat out on the porch today and waited 15 minutes before finally being able to flag someone down to get some service. Waited 5 more minutes then decided to take our business elsewhere(Southern Railways Taphouse is a block away). Much like many other reviewers here, I was highly anticipating the arrival of this establishment. I live in shockoe bottom and I was super excited for a brewery to finally open up within walking distance. I am very disappointed. I have unfortunately seen management/employees get nasty with other negative reviews online which is incredibly unprofessional, but I still wanted to like this place. They have a great location and a ton of potential, hopefully they can turn some things around!

Drinkable beer, eatable brunch. Excellent Brown Ale. Would come back due to proximity to canal walk.

Had the opportunity to have lunch here last week but did not consume any of their golden beverages so this review will be food only. Short and sweet of it is that the burger was underdone and extraordinarily greasy. Their take on cheese steak with beer cheese was ok but light on the amount of steak and way too much bread, their french fries were very tasty and the space seemed nice enough. We will try again sometime when we can sample some of their beer as well as something different from the menu.

I went to 7 Hills Brewing Company after work for an early dinner. I had a regular burger with fries. The burger was good but not great. Our fries came out hot & crispy. There are a lot televisions if you want to watch sports. The inside dining area is very spacious. It’s patio seating as well(great place to dine if weather warm). Service in the bar area was attentive and friendly. Parking can be a hassle at times but its places you can pay to park nearby. I will be back to checkout 7 Hills Brewing Company once its been open longer. I give 7 Hills Brewing Company a 3.5 rating.

Had high hopes for this place, we’d been anticipating the opening for a while, so I really wanted to be impressed. The space is great, very big, long bar with 4 TVs, so it is a great place to watch games. And I’ll bet it’s great in the summer, with the doors rolled up. But… Let me summarize by saying if my husband said hey, want to go to 7 Hills for a beer and to watch the game? I’d say yeah, great place! If he said hey, want to go to 7 Hills for dinner? I’d say NO. He ordered the Cuban sandwich, said it was good(I had a bite, thought it was pretty tasty). 13 yr old really liked the pork sliders, but gotta say, the fish and chips I had for dinner was probably the worst I’ve ever had. The breading was kind of… rough and tasteless, and the fish was not tasty-or even bland-ish, like most fish n chips fish-had an unpleasant taste. Not bad/old, just. Well even my 13 yr old fishing-nut said it was a little too fishy. The beers-the brown was good, maybe a little thin, but tasty. My IPA was probably the least hoppy IPA I’ve ever had. Good, but more like a Pale Ale. The Pale Ale was good-had a butterscotch-y taste, very reminiscent of the awesome original Legend Lager-wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the original Legend brewer worked with 7 Hills on that Pale Ale(sadly, Legend Lagers no longer have that butterscotch taste). So-we’ll go back occasionally if only because of the location and space(meaning on a crowded day it will be easier to find a place at the huge bar), but I can’t help but think wow, if only they had a kick ass menu with really good food, what a great destination it would be!

I wasn’t sure what to expect – I had heard some poor reviews shortly after opening. Then some good ones. So I stopped in for lunch. I didn’t order any of their beer, but ordered the Pimento Cheese burger. It was good, but I ordered it medium and it came out well done. Still a solid burger and the fries were good. I would return.

A very disappointing end to our day. Wait staff was uninformed and most of the already limited menu was unavailable. Seek other venues.

What a disappointment. The bartender never introduced himself. The drinks were a disappointment. There were 4 tables seated and it took 40 minutes to get a simple appetizer. Once we got them they were disgusting. Awesome space and location but poor service and food. RVA deserves better

The cheese fries were really good and our waiter was great. I did not enjoy my first drink because it had beer in it and I’m not a beer person. My husband enjoyed his beer. It was the first one on the menu, but I can not remember it’s name. The décor was nice in the restaurant, but the bathroom was not clean. One stall was out of order. We probably won’t go back simply because the menu is short.

Really happy to have a brewery in the neighborhood. I’ve been in here twice and will probably come in again but they seem to be under the same impression that a lot of breweries have that live music is absolutely necessary. I won’t be in again if I see there is live music playing. They don’t have the sound balanced and everyone is trying to sit at the far end of the place to be able to have a conversation.

Beer was mediocre. Pale and stout both seemed a little on the amateur side. Maybe they’ll get better with age?

So I have to give this place 5 stars based on a great overall experience. We sat at the bar and were greated by one of the best bartenders I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Shelby knew how to make a drink. It was her own creation that we named«the high maintenance«after my wife who ordered it. It had Tito’s vodka, prosenco, some other liquors, blueberries and an orange peel. Outstanding. I had the blonde beer because I have a weakness for blondes. The fish and chips were excellent. Big piece of fresh fish, hand battered with minimal breading. Nothing worse than frozen breaded fish that is dripping grease. I ordered the wings which were good and meaty but I prefer a hot buffalo sauce and this was more like a sweet bbq. We will definitely be coming back, thanks Shelby.

On our follow up visit, we enjoyed the beers very much. Standouts were the blonde and brown ales. The food was ok. I think the menu could use some attention. Shelby has been one of our favorite bartenders and honestly the only reason we decided give this restaurant group another shot. The atmosphere is pretty good. I really like the open air dining room and long bar. Hopefully it will get more polished with time. The staff seems pretty great but could definitely put forth a more professional look if there were an employee uniform.

The one thing any service operation should get right, no matter what, is serving the customers. We sat at the bar for ten minutes before we were ever asked what we would like. Given that, we decided to get a full flight and see what all their beers had to offer. Of the beers they brewed and were on tap, the only beer I enjoyed was the Pipeline Pale Ale. My advice: focus more on the beer and less on the bar. I was a little confused when entering, seeing all of the liquor bottles behind the counter. Is this a brewery? Sure, if you want to have cocktail options, that makes sense, but calling yourself a brewery, the one thing you should get right is the beer… and the service. I wasn’t pleased with either. Best of luck, but I won’t be back any time soon.

This place is so chill and just overall awesome! The food is great! And the drinks are tasty. They have a flight of their craft beers you can get for $ 8 and its definitely worth it so you can taste them all! There is a large bar with inside seating and also a patio to sit on as well. The one bartender, her name is T, she is awesome and personable and had a wonderful attitude. I will ask for her next time I am here for sure :) I will definitely be back again as this place is only 3 blocks from my apartment. I highly recommend it!

So far, we tried the Stout and Blonde Ale and they were delicious. This place is very big for a brew pub, including an outdoor patio right on the canal. Like others noted, the menu is limited with a few salads, sandwiches, burgers and appetizers, so don’t expect a «dinner» menu. However, they did say the menu will evolve. Overall, I like the atmosphere, staff, and beer, which is good enough for me. We’ll be back!

Went into the brewery this weekend looking forward to trying another amazing brewery joining the Richmond scene. The only beer we enjoyed there was the Brown Ale, and the Stone Saison– which of course is not one of their own beers. The place looked great, and will like to give them another chance when they have been brewing longer. I was surprised that the staff were in black t-shirts and pants. Maybe– they will get uniforms later but it gave most of the staff a «just rolled out of bed look» and also, maybe a belt would be helpful as well. I would rather not see neon leopard print underwear while enjoying my pretzels. I wish the brewery well, and like i said, i will try it again later on when they have been opened longer in hopes that things will get better.

This guy Gregory is wrong. Place is great. Great atmosphere. Good beer. I got the fish and chips, was pretty great for a beer battered fish. The fries are great as well. Almost a curly fry and steak fry hybrid. If you’re impatient with entry, like Gregory down below, you’re simply that: impatient. A restaurant takes time to open, training takes time. I’d rather a place take their time and get it right then fail. Good place. Only downfall is the menu is a bit small, I’m sure they will expand after a while.

Loved the hand made burgers and hand breaded onions rings. Even the salad was so tasty. And the location right on the Canal Walk downtown in perfect for stopping by when cycling, hiking or strolling. Love it! Great location at 15th and Canal. Great bar that runs nearly the block-wide restaurant. In nice weather, the«loading dock» outaide is great patio space with roll up doors. Friendly staff with excellent service. So glad they are open. Great addition to the Canal Walk!
