This place is always my go to Ethiopian spot. The taste of Ethiopia platter is has veggies and meat. It’s a bit of everything. We had Sambusa as appetizers. We left fat, full and happy!

The décor and ambiance leaves much to be desired, but the food is fantastic as well as the service. We went on a Monday night, so it was no surprise it was empty at the time. We got two of the combination platters. There were definitely some additions/subtractions from what we requested like the mystery partially cooked ground meat that I think was supposed to be tibs? I’ve had better Doro Wat but everything else was fantastic. I was loving all of the vegetables! We also got a side dish of their cheese with collard greens. It was a bit on the funky side, but I assumed that’s how it was meant to be. My favorites were the collard greens, yellow lentils, and chunks of beef with jalapeño. If you like Ethiopian food, it’s definitely worth checking out.

A simplistic-looking restaurant with a bar and tv on the wall, situated right off of Central Expressway. Not exactly a place for a special night out, but for any other nights. But when it comes to food, they’re really large portions. I had the Taste of Ethiopia, which is a generous sampler of lamb or beef TIBS(cubed meat) with DOROWOT(chicken leg in berbere or red pepper sauce, spiced butter and honey wine, and seasoned with garlic, cinnamon and cardamom), YEBEGALITCHA(pieces of injera mixed with lamb, slow cooked with mild sauce and spiced butter, SHIRO(roasted and powdered chickpeas simmered in unique, hot and spicy berbere sauce) and GOMEN(spinach cooked with onions, garlic and cardamom). And this is according to the menu. But when I received my plate, it looked like there were so much more. I even believe that my plate came with KIFTO(seasoned lean ground beef, seasoned with kibbeh or spiced butter, cardamom and mitmita or hot pepper). It was a great«walk» around Ethiopia, and I have not had one complaint about anything, not even its spice level, which was perfectly modified to be mild tasting for me. I was warned that the only thing they could not modify was the doro wot, but I found the doro wot to be just perfect and balances itself nicely with the rest of the plate. The only thing I have to mention a heads up is that the lady taking orders the day I came for lunch had a thick accent and spoke haltingly English. She was a great and friendly server, and I enjoyed her service, but just be sure to give time to double check any request for accommodations. SHE: «How do you want this cooked?» ME: «How is this prepared traditionally?»(Hoping it’s raw since it’s traditional in Ethiopia to eat raw kifto, which is similar to raw kibbeh in Lebanon) SHE: «Little or no cook. No fire.» ME: Okay, I want it raw. :) — ordered, received plate, and got something that looks like the kifto was cooked, and confused, I asked her if this was cooked, thinking maybe it’s possible it got brown through a heavy hand of seasoning SHE: «Little cooked» ME: «Oh, I thought no cook, no fire. Raw. Red. But it’s ok!» SHE: «OH. You want red?»(Looking surprised) «I will fix!»(Must have been my face, since I wear emotions on my sleeve too easily — sorry) — runs into kitchen, and female owner/chef peeks out of the door, and confirms my order and happily makes it(seems like not a lot of people in Dallas eat it the traditional way) And soon, I get the perfectly seasoned raw kifto, and I quickly devoured it, much to everyone’s surprise. I was a bit too eager. But really, it was a lot of food, and only later did I find out that the Taste of Ethiopia sampler normally does not include kifto was it was not mentioned in the menu. Was it a faux pas, I do not know. But whatever I ate was one of the most enjoyable Ethiopian meal I’ve had in a long time and I’m already thinking of going back(a first, for me). I should add also that this is supposedly one of the few Ethiopian places in Dallas that also serves honey wine. ATMOSPHERE: Casual, simplistically decorated with TV and a bar on one wall PRICE: Regular(most dishes below $ 14, except for sampler plates) SERVICE: friendly, attentive, accommodating

I’d never had Ethiopian food before going here with some coworkers. Loved it. Will be going back soon for sure.

I’ve been to Addis Abeba twice now and I’m absolutely in love with their food. The first time we went we took a friend who had never had Ethiopian before. We ordered a combination of meat and veggies as well as my favorite, Shiro, and they were all absolutely delicious. Today I had a to-go order of a vegetarian combo and it was just as good to-go. I’ve eaten a lot of Ethiopian food in my day and this place is one of the bests. Vegetarian/vegan friendly

Great kitfo, injera and the hard cheese was delicious. Not too spicy, and it didn’t take long to be served. I will be back soon for more entrees!

This place is easy to miss if you aren’t looking for it, because it currently sits behind Krispy Kreme, McDonalds, and a recently build Starbucks. It is a small place, but the food is really good and has a homemade quality to it. My go to dishes are the: veggie platter, Doro wot, and the Kitfo. I can literally make a meal out of the kitfo, it is very delicious. If you order it be sure to let them know if you would like it rare(it’s traditionally served this way), medium or well done. It is a great place to meet up with friends or to have a casual date with that special someone. I hope you enjoy!

We love this wonderful little restaurant in Richardson. The food is fresh, flavorful and so tasty each time we’ve been. We’ve always gotten the vegetarian sample plate and then we’ve chosen a new meat dish each time. My 9 year old loves Ethiopian food and so do I. This is our special place to go eat when we want a girl’s night. It is never crowded so that worries me for it’s success but don’t be fooled by lack of patrons — this is EXCELLENT food and you should try it right away! The food and service is fantastic. Ethiopian food may be «scary» to try for the first time but rest assured it is approachable cuisine that is fun to try and such a treat! If you like food, you’ll love this restaurant.

The food here is absolutely fantastic. I ordered the Misto and the Kitfo(tar tar). This place does not skimp on the spice. It is very dress casual. It does have a bar, but not the most impressive ever. My only problem is that it was a little difficult to overcome the language barrier, but the staff was quite friendly.

Food tastes great but the serving amount is ridiculously small… My wife and I usually go to Star Burkh every Wednesday night but they closed at 8:00 so we tried a new place. We ordered the vegetarian combo for two(to go). TERRIBLEMISTAKE! The portion we received was ½ the size of what we would usually get for just ONEPORTION from Star Burkh. I’m sorely disappointed as I had very high hopes.

Fantastic food and very courteous wait staff. It can be difficult to find, the best way I’ve found to get in is to enter the shopping center from the north, at the stoplight the Quick Trip is on. Turn left at the donut shop and the restaurant is right there at the breezeway.

FAIRWARNING, this place is not easy to see from Belt Line and almost impossible to see from the I-75 access road. Keep looking, you’ll find it. I recommend ordering from the regular menu and I would favor dinner over lunch here. Great food, good ambiance. I have to go with four stars on this one because 1) when I tried their lunch specials, the lunch Beef Tibs was less than awesome and 2) I once went there to introduce someone to Ethiopian food and they were still not open 30 minutes after the time listed on their door, so we had to find another place. Aside from that one TIbs dish, though, the food has been as amazing as I have come to expect from Ethiopian restaurants.

Excellent place! The doro wot, tibs and kitfo are to DIE for, and the martinis are killer as well! A little more vermouth than I usually like, but goes perfectly with the spicy goodness. Sarah was our server and super nice and attentive, and the owner even came by to check on us! Will definitely come back whenever I’m in Dallas.

I’m a fan. This was my first time trying this type of cuisine so keep that in mind while reading my review. The food was flavorful and the service was sufficient. I thought I would hate injera because I’m not a huge fan of sour, but it was surprisingly not overpowering. I like injera, but don’t love it as I did get tired of eating it halfway through the meal and it was filling. I dragged my coworkers with me and they asked for forks so this restaurant does offer silverware. I wanted the most traditional experience possible so I forgoed the fork and scooped with the injera and ate with my right hand only. I ordered the Taste of Ethiopia dish with lamb for 1 so that I could get a good variety. The lamb tibs were yummy but a bit chewier/tougher than I like my lamb. The standouts of the dish was the doro wat with chicken and the greens and cabbage. I ordered the cinnamon tea to follow up the meal. I want to try other Ethiopian restaurants in the area now, but have no problem suggesting Addis Ababa to others at all. I’d go back here myself if the craving strikes.

First time eating Ethiopian food in Dallas. On par with some of the best I’ve had in DC and Boston! Hole in the wall restaurant but the food and service was great. We ordered the Siga Tibs– to die for, Lamb curry and Veggie platter. The injera was served on the side– 3 per person. The honey wine recommended by the waitress was sweet and smooth. The owner stopped by and was super friendly. Definitely recommend this authentic hole in the wall gem!

This was me and my husband first time ever eating Ethiopian food and we are in LOVE! The restaurant was really nice and clean my only disappointment was their enormous big screen tvs both playing sports and one had the volume turned way up. It had potential to be very classy, but the tvs made it have a run of the mill sports bar feel. Anyhow yes, the service is slow so do NOT come if you’re in a hurry, although I suppose you can place a call in. We got timatim fit fit for an appetizer– very good, then me and my husband got the sampler for two platter and our was amazing ! I can’t remember the names of the dishes it has but I believe it was called the taste of Ethiopia. We were very impressed. We both cleaned our plates despite the fact the plate took up almost or whole table! Collard greens not bitter but delicious, meat excellent cooked expertly, sauces had unique great flavor we’d never had before. And with the platter you get so much variety, such as 4 types of meat all cooked differently. We will definitely return soon!

In a darkened courtyard of a 1990’s shopping center the commercial brick became ancient, the crowd of men — amenable — pleasant and jovial like communal bees, a fancy theatre sized big screen TV aired a soccer game as I felt water patterned light glisten off Eritrean seas and young men thoughtfully kicking their soccer balls through said ancient alleys to find a hot home cooked meal. After opening the entrance door, an incredibly subtle 1 second pause quickly tapped then resparked the humming conversations of filled big tables with well dressed and well behaved happy mature adults, mostly Erhiopians. Proudly, I was the single only white person there — a cherished minority moment I haven’t felt since a Summer in Tortola BVI. Being on a casual date with my boyfriend further pressed the envelope, but we felt very accepted and respected, as we, in reciprocation, didn’t hold hands or speak to close, although our doting gazes surely betrayed us. We were treated warmly with only a soft lag in initial service that you would expect from this culture. «What time do you close?» We asked before ordering wine. «10:30pm» she noted casually«or 2am. it just depends. Take your time.» She said with a smile and a spirit of enjoyment. We hungrily chose the Ethiopian platter, $ 25, with your choice of lamb or beef, chicken, and 5 vegetables, served on a huge platter on top of enjera bread, with 3 enjera rolls each. The small dollops of dishes were rich in flavor as I expect from Ethiopian food. Our platter was way too much but we did our best to eat more than half. The environs here were cozy and dim that easily switched«casual diner» into«coastal tavern on a hill». The food will recharge you with love, but the spirit filled energy of the people might be the best thing on the menu.

I was in the mood for some Ethiopian food and found this had some good reviews on Unilocal.I was very pleased at the dish, Chicken Dur Wot. It was very flavorful and the cabbage and salad sides were perfect. Fortunately, there was a patio area so that I could take in the warm Dallas evening. Oh, I also had the Ginger Tea, for the first time. That was a good choice, if I do say so myself. In another review, a person mentioned that if you are behind the McDonald’s, then you are very close. That was a hugely helpful hint as the place was difficult to find.

I’ve been to several Ethiopian restaurants, and this one is decent but not great. The sauces were extremely bland, to the point that I wonder if they went to the extreme and didn’t spice the sauces at all when I asked about mild sauces and mentioned that I’m not a big fan of spicy food. That is true, but I do like SPICED food and can tolerate SOME heat. In general, I tend to be a fan of food that has flavor. Overall, not as good as Zeni’s in San Jose, CA(the best I’ve had to date) or Queen of Sheba in Addison. Also, super sketchy location — we got accosted by a panhandler right outside the front door. I’d eat there again if I had to and if someone else paid for it, but otherwise, I won’t be back.

Finding this place was a treasure hunt in itself. It is kind of stuck in an odd corner of a plaza not facing the road. If you are behind mc Donalds you are close by. Two nice ladies greeted me right away and had me pick a seat. After ordering a beer I asked for the veggie sampler meal and asked the waitress to pick the 5 dishes that I should try. I have never eaten ethiopian food before so we shall see how it goes. The food was great and very filling. It had just the right amount of heat and wang. It was a great experience. Love anyplace where you can eat the plate too. Lol. The food here is served on the bread that you eat the food with. If you are in the area, you must try it. I definitely will be back.
