Been here about 5 more times after our initial visit. Service here is still wonderful and attentive. They still make the nigiri and maki bite sizes, so you don’t get stuff eating one roll or set of nigiri which I like. You get more room to try everything else. My only complaint and still preventing me giving this places 5 stars is the randomness of the chefs. I would say 4 out of 5 chefs are great but we keep getting stuck with the«one.» Not rude but not personable and constantly forgetting our order. Sure I order 3 nigiris at a time… but it’s not that hard. He would forget at least 1 order every time. Then that makes me forget I ordered it lol. The owner and other chefs are nice to back him up and ask us if we need anything else. It’s just annoying sometimes to keep repeating our orders. I lowered it to 2 orders at a time so he wouldn’t forget. Anyways, I still recommend this place.

Damn! Unilocal is creepy. Just looked this place up and the Unilocal-bots wanted a review. That said… it was awesome! I think each sushi joint has a ‘style/flavor’ and it’s nice to change even if the usual place is tasty. Been going to Reef… good but each time something is annoying. Give Tokyo a shot! I’m not too much of a sake guy, but they offer free sake Monday through Thursday(I think). It’s the best thing in that location in ten years! Peace!

Great new environment. Atmosphere is simplistic yet lively with options. Try the oishi roll and various others as all were great to enjoy. The tempura calamari with the sauce is the best. The bar environment is great with TVs to watch the game.

Found this joint while driving to the Peppermill back in April so we decided to stop in. It was my boyfriends first time really trying sushi and we both fell in love with this place. We sat at the bar and received the best service. Orders came out quick and nothing disappointed. The deep fried sushi options were so yummy. They also have the best baked mussels EVER! Came back a second time this past weekend with some girlfriends and they all loved it as well. Honestly its one of the best AYCE sushi spots I’ve been too. And I can guarantee each time I’m in Reno, I will be here!

I am a cat who loves sushi, and I am also one who can eat a lot. And when I’m with my group of fellow fluffs who can really eat a lot, we go to places that have all you can eat sushi! We stopped in here for dinner on a Friday night and were happy to see that it wasn’t too busy that day. Giving a look at the all you can eat menu, I was very excited to sink my fangs into some really interesting sushi choices. We ordered numerous rolls and nigiri and awaited their arrival. The first of the rolls started coming out and they were absolutely beautiful. Giving them a taste proved that they were indeed wonderfully prepared and flavorful. Everything tastes quite fresh! We were a bit confused as to why these intricate rolls were being brought out when we had ordered the nigiris first, but that wasn’t too much of an issue. As much as the food was pretty good, I have one thing that reallyyyyyy set me off and gave me a very bad impression of this place. The music they were playing on the speakers overhead was very explicit, and it’s not like the speakers were turned down low either. If this was a bar or something that would be a non issue. But there were literally families with young kids, LITTLE kids here, and the workers thought it still be ok to blast profane music through the whole place? I have worked in a restaurant before, and I can tell you that this is something that is SO wrong to do, and it’s important to screen what kind of music you are playing so you can create the best full experience for your customers. Playing music full of profanity to little kids? I was frankly shocked at this, and this would be the kind of thing that would sway me from returning to a place if I was a parent. Perhaps my knocking down of stars is harsh, but again, there are just some things that restaurants just should never do, and when those things are done, it rubs me the wrong way. I hope that in the future this place can be more aware of what they are playing, because honestly their sushi and pricing is quite good. The workers seemed a bit slow and bored, but nothing was blatantly«bad» per say minus the music issue. I wish them the best. *growl*

Wonderful sushi here! It’s not all rice like other places. The service is friendly and pretty fast considering. This is my second visit of many more to come.

My first experience here was stellar. The service was prompt, the sushi was delicious, I thought I would become a regular. My second visit didn’t meet the same expectations. My third visit was the worst of them all and I won’t be back for a fourth. I decided to give Tokyo sushi another chance after Valentine’s Day. I figured the apathetic service was due to the volume of customers they had on that special day. WRONG. Today’s service was 10x worse than the last time. We arrived around 1:35 in the afternoon — the bar was full, but the tables were nearly empty. We were quickly seated and given menus. We wrote down a few appetizers and rolls on the sheet of paper and stuck it at the end of the table and waited… and waited some more… and our waitress finally grabbed it 10ish minutes later. Our mussels came out first(which never seem to disappoint), then our pot stickers a few minutes later. We started to receive our rolls one at a time in 10 minute increments. I have no idea why they serve sushi this way. Sharing one roll at a time with your starving 6 foot something boyfriend isn’t fun. We received our third roll and was told this was the last roll on our list which was a lie. My boyfriend and I looked at each other confused. We were missing our yakitan and two other rolls. The guy who delivered the sushi was gone before we could say anything. We didn’t get another sheet until another 15 minutes when the waitress walked by and we had to say«excuse me» to ask for a refill on our waters and a new order sheet. We filled out the order sheet and placed it at the front of the table. I swear it must have sat there for nearly 20 more minutes. This was turning into the longest sushi date I had ever been on. When the waitress took the sheet I had asked if she could add some regular mussels to our order. She nodded and walked away. We received our rolls again, one by one, but no mussels. We see our waitress go to the table next to ours with an order of mussels and they had said«oh, we already got our order a while ago.» And she turned around and took them back to the kitchen. I asked a different waitress if she could check on our mussels. She asked if I wanted«regular or baked» and I replied with regular. 10 minutes later she comes back with BAKED mussels. I just don’t get what’s so hard about your job. I have never had such slow, crappy service in my entire LIFE. We didn’t even get out of there until nearly 4PM. We spent maybe 30 minutes actually eating and probably two hours waiting for our rolls to be delivered. Big difference from my first visit to my last visit.

I’ll admit, after my first visit, I became biased, I found one of my old favorite chef’s(and his namesake roll) here when I sat down at the bar, so it made me a happy girl. The nigiri is smaller here, but the ball of rice correlates with the size of the slice of fish at least. The rolls are smaller too, so the cut pieces are smaller and bite sized. The mussels are big, but tender and absolutely drenched in decadence. In theory, this is run of the mill AYCE sushi for Reno, there is no fish collar’s on the AYCE menu, but is listed on the a la cart page. It is kept clean, the service was fantastic for my visits with plates being cleared and drinks being refilled. I had Chao, the chef I liked from Sushi Rose, both times, with assistance from others that were just as exceptional. The décor and atmosphere is fresh and modern as well. The rolls are good in my opinion and there is a lot of variety with lots of rolls featuring more than just salmon and tuna. If I survived only on nigiri, it isn’t my first choice, but it isn’t my last either. The flavors were good with the rolls and still seemed fresh, just Sushi 7 has the edge on anywhere I’ve been as far as nigiri goes. I’ll be back often between the cost, selection, quality and chefs… plus they have a stamp card here as well. PS: The Lion King is the Mariner from Sushi Rose

Tried this place out for the first time with my husband, brother in law & sister in law and honestly, this place is mediocre. Hands down, my favorite was the Hot Bae. The Black Angel was interesting. A lot of their rolls were interesting and new but they did still have the original rolls and like crystal shrimp and donald duck/mickey mouse. The place itself is pretty big. It’s great for groups. Good lighting, unlike a lot of dim sushi places where you dont even know what’s set on the table. The waitresses don’t speak good English so don’t expect to understand them. We had a very hard time understanding our waitress. For me, the most disappointing thing about Tokyo Sushi is that their fishes are warm. I dont like warm nigiri’s because warm means it’s not fresh and not fresh means you’re going to end up most likely getting sick which we all did. Overall, one star for the menu being different(this includes the desserts menu) and another one just because it wasnt a too bad experience.

Tried this place out for the very first time a few days ago, since we were looking for a new and delicious sushi place. Good: Their mussels were probably the best I’ve ever had, sushi rolls were fresh and all were very delicious! So good wise everything was great! Bad: service was VERY slow, especially considering there were only about two other tables taken(place wasnt too busy) but service was definitely far too slow. Also, rolls were very small, almost miniature size and you are only allowed to order two orders of mussels for the AYCE(which if you’re a mussel lover, that is definitely going to be a major issue) and probably one of the reasons why I would question whether to come back or not…

Good: Nice décor redo. Nice staff. Decent sushi. They have a lot of fresh new rolls to choose from. The rolls are appropriately sized. In other words, you don’t look like piglet when you cram a cookie-sized roll in your face and then can’t close your mouth to chew. And we all know how easy it is to bite through the seaweed wrap… Not so good: Their service is lacking a bit right now. I understand thy are newly opened, so am giving a pass on that for today. But if I were an alcoholic, I’d have gone into withdrawals waiting for my second glass of wine to be ordered… let alone delivered. The waitress was very apologetic, so sort of made up for it?

Yes! Omg yes! I have tried pretty much every sushi restaurant from South Reno to Northwest. This place blows any of my old favorites out of the water. The thing I like about Tokyo Sushi is that they bring your order out as its being made. So instead of waiting 15 – 20 minutes for all of your stuff to be prepared, you have a pretty much constant flow of food being delivered to your table. Also, the fish to rice ratio is PERFECT. Seriously, it doesn’t get any better than this. I’ve finally found a place where the spicy tuna is actually spicy. The closest I had found before this was at Kitzmo. All other places have been pretty bland. The pepper tuna OMG, the pepper tuna nigiri speaks to my soul. It’s a beautiful pink color and perfect melt in your mouth texture. I’ve honestly thought about it every day since my first visit! I’m a mostly nigiri person but I’ll try a roll here and there. The hot bae is damn good. Oh and the Tahoe handroll is so delicious that I ordered 2 the last time I was there. The scallops melt in your mouth. For appetizers I usually get mussels. I like their baked mussels better than their other ones.(Grilled? I don’t know) The crab ball things are also good but I don’t like to fill up too much on the fried stuff. The hamachi also melts in your mouth. Everything seems so fresh. The service is good. Its kind of weird that every time we have gone we start out with a woman server then a man takes over. But no complaints there. The only only only thing I can find wrong with Tokyo Sushi is the iced tea. It’s that super sweet artificial raspberry flavored stuff. They didn’t tell me that when I ordered it. Oh well. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice AYCE sushi experience. Oh and to all the people who pull out the«I’m from the Bay Area and all sushi in Reno is shit» card, I am from the Bay Area and have had sushi all over Oakland and SF and have had equally shitty and equally good sushi there too. Stop being so snobby! It’s annoying and you come off as a pretentious ass.

I set out today specifically looking to try a new sushi place. Based on the reviews, Tokyo won the challenge. I’d been here before, when it was the Sushi Boat place, and was impressed with the changes they’ve made to the atmosphere. What used to feel like a cheap mall sushi joint(don’t judge, I did my first-ever sake bomb in this restaurant) is now on-par with the vibe of the rest of the places in town. The price is comparable, but they do have a really excellent selection of appetizers that are included, with a little more variety than I’m used to. The sushi was fine, but forgettable. Well cut with rice that stuck together nicely, but the fish was occasionally chewy because it had been cut improperly. The nigiri I ordered(salmon, snapper, yellow tail, tuna, octopus) is my standard for everywhere I go, and Tokyo came in at about average. The wasabi that came with the plate seemed less potent than normal, and a little bit watery. They do have a nice selection of rolls, but I really felt that they were all different chapters in the same repetitive story. Crab mix, sriracha, cream cheese, lemon. Some of them had a slightly sweet flavor which I was unsure of the origin. However, very beautifully presented and I really appreciate them cutting the long rolls into 10 pieces instead of eight. I’m happy to shove a huge ball of sushi in my mouth but much prefer it to be a little smaller so I’m more focused on the flavor and not just chewing it. One unique thing they do is to layer spicy tuna mix on top of a roll, where you would normally find it inside. That was a bit of a twist that was nice to see. Overall, I thought the sushi was fine, but it’s not going to be my new go-to.

We stopped in for AYCE sushi dinner($ 23.95) and enjoyed a really great meal at the bar chatting with Chef Resty. The staff seemed very happy to work there and the sushi was very very fresh. Its hard to find a sushi place that doesn’t all taste the same, have the same rolls/ingredients under 3 different names, and it can be really easy to be underwhelmed from the experience… especially as a local. Therefore, restaurants must really choose what they want to be known for as far as their customer base is concerned. I will remember Tokyo sushi for a number of reasons: 1. Their sushi rolls are unique. Even their version of a rainbow roll has a slice of lemon on top, setting it apart from the rest. Their most expensive roll, the Black Angel, has a memorable name, its unique, and I can guarantee that you’ll want to order it multiple times. I never thought I’d do it in the same sitting(and I hadn’t before) but the Black Angel was so good I ordered it twice. 2. They have been open for 2 months now, which is approximately enough time for employee to realize if they are happy or not, paid enough or not, have a voice or not, want to work there or not… catch my drift? All I saw were smiles from the chefs, or that very intense face that sushi chefs make when they’re focusing on making their customers a brilliant roll. 3. The atmosphere. Its trendy, its stylish, and it maintains an Asian-theme throughout the restaurant, even to the bathrooms. They even have lotion in the bathrooms… which is going to bring me to an off topic subject. WHY don’t more/all restaurants put lotion in their bathroom??? We are in the desert, and I know that all of you reading this have experienced that feeling you get when you dry your hands after washing and just feel the moisture fly away. Okay, back to Tokyo Sushi. I loved the mural that they have on the back wall, I’ve seen one just like it at a Chinese take-out place that I like. The first step you will take into the restaurant pay attention to the detail in the floor tiling. This owner(s) succeeded in making this place trendy. 4. Along with your AYCE sushi, their special(for this month and probably more in the future) is FREEAYCDSAKE! I mean, I’m not a big fan of warm liquor, and my feeling is that most people aren’t because restaurants wouldn’t be offering a free shot of Sake at all of the other sushi locations in Reno. But here, FREESAKE?! That’s just another way customer’s will remember your sushi joint over the others which now seem«stingy» for only offering 1 free shot. Take a look at my pictures. I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of most of the rolls that we tried: Black Angel(x2) Crazy Monkey — Resty’s favorite and a great choice that I would order again 3 colors — their version of a rainbow + lemon Lion King — don’t worry, it says spicy but if I could take it on it’s not a fireball in your mouth FBI — another«spicy» but not too spicy for me roll that I would order again. Spicy Tuna — nothing crazy here Double Tiger — an interesting roll. see pic I also ordered a seaweed salad for an appetizer which was very fresh. Also tried a few pot stickers, and they were yummy. Next time I will be asking for a side of teriyaki for those. For dessert, I ordered coffee mochi, which was my first time seeing coffee mochi on a menu(maybe another thing that make’s them unique? Number 5!) and a huckleberry celebration(ice cream) which was AMAZING(Number 6! I haven’t seen this option before, and it was delish). My one complaint is that it took us a while to get out of there. Tokyo Sushi got a little heavy traffic right as we were trying to make our way out of there. We had to flag down a waitress and it wasn’t the fastest service. I will tell you that I ROLLED myself out of the joint and ROLLED myself into the car and ROLLED into the house because I was sooo stuffed.

AYCE sushi restaurants in Reno are like koi in a small pond. They are everywhere. Once upon a time I think this spot was Sushi Boat. Since I have never been to the previous restaurant I don’t know if the spot has been remodeled. The dining area was well lit, clean and has simple décor. The only sushi bar in the restaurant seats about 14 people. I ate here on a Tuesday night with a friend who knows sushi very well. There were a couple of employees from sushi rose that now work here. The rolls are nice size with minimal rice and cut into easy single bite pieces. We worked our way through several menu items. Trying both the regular mussels and baked mussels, a order of Yakiton, the Choa, M3, Black Angel, Sierra, Bewitched(a special roll) and a Polar Bear. As well as some seared ahi and salmon. All the food was good, but nothing really wowed me. Maybe all our AYCE spots are beginning to jade me. Our chef, Chao, was wonderful at making recommendations and even custom creating a roll twice. It was nice not to be hurried, the place was busy without being swamped. $ 24 for dinner is about the going rate in town.

I’ve been twice now within 30 days. Yum!!! I am a big sushi lover. I like to find sushi places where the quality is on point and I don’t have to dip the pieces in soy sauce. I have found a new home here at Tokyo. They are creating some beautiful and flavorful rolls. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They offer all you can drink sake at different times as a special. Sometimes it is the monthly deal and other times it’s a Mon-Thur deal. Their all you can eat sushi is definitely the way to go. We’ve enjoyed many items on the menu. A few recommendations include, sake nigiri, pepper tuna nigiri, black angel, Hawaiian, the mussels are delicious too. We loved all the rolls we got. Normally we go for raw rolls or nigiri that doesn’t have cream cheese. If you have a similar pallet, I’d highly recommend Tokyo sushi.

Relishing in singlehood is hungry work. Naturally, Valentine’s Day 2k16 called for some hardcore AYCE grubbin’. Anticipating a lunch rush of lovey-dovey hungry couples, I called ahead about 20 minutes before coming in and luckily scored an open table for me and three buds(PALentine’s!) for zero wait time. This quickness unfortunately was not a running trend during my two-hour stay here. Part of this was expected: a full house of AYCE diners was bound to overwhelm the chefs. This sushi chaos was only exasperated by the staff’s floating server system; as the orders came out, available servers would rush them to their designated tables. While this may sound efficient, the lack of designated service to specific tables made for spotty wait service, wrong or missing orders, and general inconsistency in attention given to tables — parties near the back getting especially shafted. Organizational issues aside, major kudos to the wait staff for their noticeable extra hustle in the wake of this holiday frenzy. The food quality ranged from decent to good. Steering clear of the rolls to maximize on nigiri, I was a little disappointed to see the volume of the day’s business take a toll on presentation. Almost all of the cuts looked rushed and rough. The freshness on some of the fish wasn’t inspiring but passable. The tai(snapper) and hamachi(yellowtail) were the fresher of the bunch that day. The seared tuna nigiri was probably be the best of the batch, with the dust of pepper really making for a tasty bite. The handrolls were also among the highlights of my meal; salmon skin was well-fried. They also seemed to be the only things immune to the longer wait times. Save room for dessert as there’s a solid spread of mochi options and a fantastic huckleberry ice cream. AYCE’s only covenantal promise is to fill you up. For all intents and purposes, this place is very successful in that regard: I left stuffed and happy. Even so, I couldn’t help but leave just a bit hungry for more solid service from this budding business. In the midst of these noticeable growing pains, Tokyo Sushi has the chance to learn from these starting months and get even better. Here’s to hoping it does.

Baked mussels were cooked to perfection. Not rubbery, served with a sauce made of saki, a light citrus sauce, and Japanese mayo, topped off with just a dash of sahracha sauce. Seaweed salad fresh made so it was crisp and not slimy like have had at so many other sushi places in town. Potstickers were thin skin and fried crispy. A little over done for my taste I prefer steamed but the were very tasty and not doughy and of course the sushi was freshest I’ve had here in Reno. I usually base this on the mackerel. It was not fishy. The pieces were not large but well proportioned to the rice. Eric was our sushi chef and everything he served was beautifully presented. The restaurant is new and very clean. You can always tell by the rest rooms. If they take pride in that space and keep it clean you can count on the more space to be well kept. The all you can eat menu included everything on the sushi menu. I sampled some of the rolls from my dinning partners. Also well proportioned rice and fish, the pieces are not so big that your cheeks puff out trying to eat one piece. Of course if you want some regular Japanese food the did cook some. I didn’t pay to much attention to that part of the menu. I’m a sushi junky and it’s hard going to a really good sushi place and eat cooked food. It did look good as I saw some plates go by.

Tokyo Sushi knows how to do AYCE sushi right. They went to #1 spot and believe the reviews/hype. The wait staff, chefs, and overall atmosphere makes me forget the terrible sushi place this place was before. The major restaurant renovation alone is a great place for large groups and plenty of cocktails/beers on stock. The menu has a lot of variety for everyone’s taste buds. The appetizer section has more than just your average miso soup, cream cheese wontons, and tempura. The baked mussels here are done right, it’s actually baked, not just steamed and spicy mayo and sirracha plopped on top. Not sure what sauce it is, but it’s damn good on everything. So if you are a baked sushi fan or torched sushi, they have those kind of rolls here. It’s a distinct flavor that adds, let’s say charred flavor that you may love or hate. Either way, I dig it! Warning though, there is a wait for the baked rolls, maybe even 15 minutes, but the Oishi roll was a «where have you been all my life» kinda taste for me. The black angel, Sakura, mt Fuji, double tiger, and polar bear hand roll were rolls that would make me come back here. Looking at the bar and drinks, they have a great list of Japanese beers if that fancies you. I came in on a work week night, so I had to pass on that. Everyone was just so friendly here and really personable and attentive and kind. I do AYCE sushi at least twice a month, and I can’t even fathom to think of going to their neighboring places, tha joint or pier. Leave room for dessert, that huckleberry heaven ice cream says it in its name, it’s pretty heavenly. :) I heard through the grapevine that it’s homemade. Where else can you find huckleberry?! Oh andddd they have a stamp card, I am a sucker for stamp cards. I mean, I went last night and I already am thinking about going there again!

My first trip to Tokyo Sushi and it won’t be my last. Went in for lunch today, place is new and clean and there lots of space. Today we sat at the Sushi Bar… Eric was our Chef. Chefs and staff were very friendly. Sushi was really good. Rolls were not so full of rice that they get too big to put in your mouth. They were just the right size. We had a Sierra Roll, Sun Rise, Sakura(my personal best — in had tempura onion rings on top — yum!) and another that I can’t remember. Started with Upside down shrimp and some nigiri. Ended with Strawberry Mochi for desert. And, I never heard of Mochi until I went to 2 Tha Joint a month or two ago. Although Eric suggested the Huckleberry Ice Cream(which I will try next time). Also have other Japanese food options… Bento Boxes and more. If I had to complain, it would be that the appetizer portions were really small and they chopped the cucumber too small… I’m not great with chopped sticks, so I had to pick them up one at time. Plenty of parking … just turn the corner and there’s a strip mall right behind the restaurant and there is an entrance in the parking lot.
