The Flying Scotsman Mobile Auto Repair and Service

I had Steve come out this morning to fix my truck, which wouldn’t start. I called at 7:15 this morning and he was there by 9:30, diagnosed the truck by 10, picked up parts by 10:30, and my truck was running by 11:00. Charged for parts, diagnosis and 1 hour labor. Excellent service… he was very pleasant and professional. I’ll be calling again next time I need repairs! Very impressed!

I had hired this repair guy on two occasions. I have an older car and it does require repairs more than I’d like. At the first appointment [which was fine, albeit expensive but he was very up front about his $ 100 service call charge + the charge for the actual repair of my serpentine belt] we talked about the many electrical issues that my type of vehicle may have and could I schedule time to have him look at potential ground fault errors that might solve some of the electrical and to help the car start better.
When he made the visit to look at the electrical he pointed out the corrosion at the terminals and then made a 1.5 — 2″ slice along each of the rubber housing at the cables to see if the corrosion had traveled. I hire a professional because car repair is not my department but it didn’t seem right that he would slice that housing and expose the cable. He then cleaned the terminals, took the battery out and checked the two common ground fault areas that I had researched online. 40 minutes later he was done and I paid him $ 200 cash.
On April the 15^th, 2 – 3 weeks after his visit for the battery, my car would barely start. I took it to an O’Reilly’s and the manager there tested the battery and said it was well over due to be replaced and that another indicator of a battery needing to be replaced is all of the corrosion that had reformed. I texted the repair guy to as why when I had paid so much for the check of the battery would be have not simply tested the battery? He did not answer that question but instead said that he was no longer in business. And at this this point I now have to take the car to a shop to get the damage that he did to the cables repaired. Really a very poor experience with this business.
I contacted him again on April the 23^rd and still no response. Unless you know a fair amount about your vehicle avoid this business. 1. I feel completely ripped off and 2. that he intentionally damaged those cables to create more work for himself. Pretty despicable business model.

I am REALLY sad that I am having to write this review. Really. I had The Flying Scotsman bookmarked on my Unilocal for a long time. I know I wanted to get some work done on my car and the idea of a mobile repair man was really appealing to me because who wants to get a ride to and from work and hassle with a shop? No one.
I called him on a Thursday morning and got his voicemail. No big deal. I left a message and waited to hear back. He did call back on Friday afternoon and we spoke briefly and I was really excited to get a call back later that day from him with an estimate and to schedule. He never called. I didn‘t think too much of it and decided I would give him until mid the following week. I think he is really busy and I‘m pretty patient so I stuck with my plan. No call. Two weeks later? No call. Sad face. He was really nice on the phone (hence the 2 stars), though, and I‘m sure if he does work on your car you will be happy.

I left a voicemail and the guy never called me back.

I live in Las Vegas and my daughter goes to UNR. She has had to call the Flying Scotsman a couple of times when her Jeep left her stranded. He got her back up and running both times at a fair price and I appreciate it.

I don’t know if he’s a good, honest mechanic, but his customer service is lacking. My vehicle broke down and I called him on a Friday afternoon, during regular business hours. It went to voicemail, stating that he would return the call within 10 – 15 minutes. I didn’t receive a call back. I called back on Monday, and left another message. Still no return call. If his reviews weren’t so good, I would have given up there, but I tried one more time on a Tuesday. He answered, discussed my problem and said that he would call me back later that day to schedule an appointment to meet me at my house on Thursday or Friday. He never called back to schedule the appointment.
Basically, I wasted a week trying to get a return phone call, and ended up just towing my vehicle to a shop. In the future, I won’t waste my time.

I hate to give a bad review seeing that Steve seems to be a generally nice guy all around and seems to do a good job with the work that he does, but I am going to have to give him 1 star. My car broke down so I decided to give him a call Thursday evening after work (around 6 – 6:30pm). It went to his voicemail, so I left a message (of course) since his voicemail states that he would give a call back within 10 – 15 minutes. That time went and passed and I never got a call back. I decided to call him again a little after 10am the next day and I did get a hold of him. I discussed my situation with him and he had told me that he was going to give me a call back later that afternoon to set up an appointment for my car. I thought, ‘Awesome! I’m going to get the ball rolling on my car finally!’ Anyway, I get off of work at 5pm and I still did not receive a call from him. I decided to call him back around 5:45pm and I left a message again thinking ‘maybe he forgot and/​or is busy working on another car.’ Anyway, he never called me back. So my thoughts are Steve is probably an awesome mechanic, but possibly super busy. I only wish that if he didn’t have the time to look at my car in the time that I was hoping for that he could have at least told me that so that I may look elsewhere with my search.

Steve did a great job diagnosing and fixing my ’99 Jeep Grand Cherokee… and Jeep owner knows that you never know what’s wrong with your Jeep and any given moment. Steve came out, identified the problem, told me how much it would be to fix it, and then did it. Honest in his pricing and service. Thanks!

Steve is a great guy, does quality work, and does the work promptly. He changed my water pump and my clutch for a reasonable price, and my truck runs like a dream! I recommend him to anyone looking for a trustworthy and reliable service.

I called at 9 am and by noon i was back on the road! Very professional and honest. They replaced both my belts on my landcruiser.

I was in a pickle and called Steve at The Flying Scotsman. He answered the phone and was so helpful. He will be out tomorrow morning to look at the problem and just from my initial conversation my mind was at ease. Very professional.

My car started to misfire around Reno when I was on my way to Burning Man. Since it was a Sunday, all mechanics were closed EXCEPT the flying scotsman. Steve came to the parking where I was and did everything that was possible to get my car back on the street again. He actually had to come twice for me, but charged me only once. My car is basically falling apart since I have never taken care of it, but he could make it that I could reach Black Rock City and even made it back home to SF! Thank you so much! :-)

I had a serpentine belt shred on my truck in my driveway. This happened on a very hot, humid day. Checked Unilocal and everyone loved the work that Steve does. I called, he came out in a few hours and fixed my problem. This guy is incredible!

Fast service and better prices than a garage with the typical overhead. He Works on all makes and models, and he «fixes then where they break». So convenient having someone come to your car not having to tow the car to a shop. It was my first time using a mobile mechanic, and I’ll certainly use and recommend The Flying Scotsman.
I had a spark plug eject from the engine block. Called The flying Scotsman, and he was there within the hour. It Took about 1 hour to install the heli-​coil. Cost $ 150.00 would be 300.00 at a shop.

This guy came straight to my house. He gave me a time and stuck to it. When he showed up he got it fixed in under half an hour and charged me a third of what it would have cost me in a shop. I HIGHLY recommend this guy!

My car sat for six months because we didn’t have money to fix it. We knew that any auto mechanic would have charged hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to get our car running again. So our car sat. It was our gas saver, so when fuel prices when up, we knew it was time to eat the cost of repairs.
I found the Flying Scotsman through Google. I gave him a call and he came to do an estimate. He got the car running and told us to call if the car dies again. We only paid for the estimate at that point. We were happy that our car was running again and it didn’t cost us an arm and a leg.
Our car eventually died again in a week or so. We called Steve and he came back to replace a part. We spent less than $ 200 in parts and labor all together. Our car has been running like a champ ever since.
I highly recommend The Flying Scotsman Mobile Auto Repair. He’s not your average auto mechanic who will suck every penny out of you. He’s very honest and truly wants to help you.

I was having some intermittent issues with my vehicle. I took it to a shop and paid a diagnostic fee of $ 89.95. The estimate came out to over $ 1,100. I was slightly put off by this because prior to this estimate, I had the same facility do $ 1,900 worth of work… to solve the same issue. I am by no means an expert when it comes to automobiles, but I certainly wasn’t going to give another penny to these clowns.
I found the Flying Scotsman, A.K.A. Steve Paylor on Craigslist. I was having a hard time finding a decent review of any place in town, so I took a chance and called him up.
I can get into the details of what was wrong, or I can just tell you that after it was all said and done, I owed Steve only $ 340. You can get out your calculator or I can just tell you that I saved $ 760 by having Steve do the work. I was so happy to find a guy I could trust, I wanted to give him every penny of what I just saved. What’s even better is that I didn’t have to set up arrangements for towing or anything. He came to me and did all the work in my garage!
Steve is a really nice and respectable person. He will not only tell you, but will also show you what’s wrong with a vehicle. He’ll also answer your questions too! Just ask. The whole time he was working on my car, I was hanging out in my garage chatting with him about anything and everything.
I’ll never go to a garage again as long as the Flying Scotsman is around. If my review isn’t enough to convince you that he’s honest and reliable, trying calling and making an appointment. I’m sure he’s booked for at least the next 5 days because word is spreading about him quickly. He gave me a few business cards when I asked for them and I can’t wait for people I know to mention they need a mechanic. I’ll have a card ready!
