Great little restaurant… the baby back ribs were great! I would absolutely suggest it for anyone. Only drawback was I think the owner was the only cook as well. So go there when you have time to spare.

The real deal — at least as close as you can find in Reno. My 17 year-old has tried most of the places in Reno and proclaimed this the best. I had the brisket sandwich — which was excellent. I’d never tried Sweet Potato Pie — definitely a winner, although I can’t compare. Modest surroundings and excellent BBQ.

One of the best BBQ places in town. Although no where close to the BBQ you can find in the south. Reasonable prices. The owner is really nice and provides excellent service. It is very thoughtful of them to provide«Finger Bowls», which I think is a must for all BBQ places.

This place had good BBQ but it is sort of hard to find and the neighborhood is rough. Good place to take a cop to lunch to.

I was quite pleased to try both the bbq wings and the beef ribs here. The wings were lightly sauced after a nice deep crisp frying. The beef ribs were more lollipop style, with a big chunk of meat hanging off half the rib. Very savory and very satiating. I’d definitely come back again for those. The fiancée had a pulled pork sandwich which she liked and then also a slice of the sweet potato pie which she said was very good.

Wow why haven’t I been to Texas Soul? I pass by this place from time to time and think to myself«Yeah I’ll go there another time.» I am glad I came in finally today to grab a bite to eat. It was very good. The quality of the food reminds me of the Rib Cook Off that we have here in Sparks by the Nugget. I always love going to the Rib Cook Off. Now that I found this place I will be going to Texas Soul to get my BBQ fix. This place is in my part of town. Let me explain what I mean by my part of town. I grew up in a poor family and did not live in the nicest neighborhood. As a matter of fact I have live in pretty rough neighborhoods like Stockton, CA. This place makes me feel like home. Now most people won’t be comfortable around a place as colorful as my neighborhood but I’m okay with that. You have to have thick skin here. There is parking in the back of this complex. You can access it by turning onto Neil Road towards the airport. Once you get to the back parking lot there is enough parking. The owner was very nice and serving time was very good. We didn’t now have to wait very long to get served and get our food. The quality of the food rivals the stuff you get at the Rib Cook Off as I explained earlier. It makes me wonder why this places isn’t getting more people to come here. It might have something to do with the location but it is only a guess. I was pleasantly surprised at my experience at Texas Soul. I would definitely come back for more. As a matter of fact I actually bought some ribs to go because I knew I was going to want more for tomorrow. The owner actually gave us a big discount because we bought so much ribs. I recommend eating the brisket that was delicious and so where the ribs. The hot links are spicy and you will be able to feel that heat. But not so spicy it will burn your tongue off. Also I got the cold slaw and I usually hate cold slaw but I did this to see if it was good. So my thoughts are if they can get something like cold slaw right then everything else on the menu, usually, will be pretty good as well. And it turns out that it is a pretty good place to eat BBQ. Thanks for reading my review.

Got the sample plate and it was one of the best BBQ I’ve ever had. Hot links was off the chain. If you like spicy make sure you ask for the extra hot on the side. Sweet potato pie was a happy ending to the meal.

Great, great food. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is because there’s no beer/alcohol. Foods amazing tho. Service is excellent!

Thank you Unilocal for helping us find this little gem! They have great specials and the bbq sauce is amaze balls! The prices are ridiculously low. The sweet potato pie served warm was out of this world yummy! If I could give it ten stars I would my fiancé said. My other friend said this was the best bbq he’s had this far. The pulled pork has a Yummy smoked flavor and I’m buying the bbq sauce.

This is awesome slow cook BBQ. This is the best we found it in the Reno area. The beef ribs are to die for and the homemade sweet potato pie is heavenly.

Brought my starving poor college student son here for lunch. He had the half pound pulled pork and almost licked the plate clean. I had the beef brisket and beans. Also, had a fresh cup of coffee that was freshly brewed. We’re now bona fide regulars every time I’m in Reno. Best BBQ north of Texas(even better than anything I’ve had in Vegas). Still clean, friendly service and delicious food.

This is by far, the best BBQ I’ve ever had. I’ve traveled all over the country, to include Texas and the south and this place takes the prize. I had the brisket sandwich with the wings. The bbq sauce is not too sweet, just the right amount of tangy, bitter and sweet. Give this place a try and you’ll see. The owner is friendly, is very attentive and a very nice guy. I’ll be back.

Delicious food, clean and quiet. The owner was great. Very pleasant and attentive yet not overbearing. We had ribs, brisket, and hot links. All great. Our 2 year old twins enjoyed the ribs, french fries, and salad. Then we had a piece of sweet potato pie to finish us off. Great place for BBQ.

Stopped on the way to Tahoe for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed the brisket sandwich with home made slaw. Really worth a visit:

The owner was pretty nice. It’s a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I’m a huge brisket fan and so I order it every time I’m in TX. True brisket is wood smoked for 12+ hours, or at least gas smoked with wood chips. I believe the brisket here is cooked in a CrockPot. The sauce seems to be a mix of chili sauce and grape jelly.(similar to a glazed meatball recipe). Texas this is not.

So far, so good. My first visit to Texas Soul BBQ was a positive experience. Brisket is the crown jewel here, although their BBQ chicken and pulled pork are also winners. The menu is built around what you want in a meal, with decent portions and price. The location is central to Reno, yet still surprisingly hidden, making Texas Soul a bit of a secret destination. The restaurant itself is pleasant and unassuming, with comfortable chairs and bright atmosphere that’s great for lunch. I’d gladly return for either dine-in lunch or take-out dinner. Open Monday-Saturday 11am-7:30pm. Updates to come as follow-up visits are made.

Somewhere in Texas a soul quietly weeps. My wife and I decided that as part of Memorial Day celebration, we should indulge in BBQ. After all, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, and summer is the unofficial season of barbeque. We headed off to Brothers Barbecue on Wells Avenue, but they were closed for the holiday. Our second was Texas Soul BBQ on E. Moana. The joint is located in a small strip mall just off Neil Road. It is unassuming, and sparsely decorated. It is populated with lunchroom tables and comfy chairs. We ordered the brisket, with coleslaw, and cornbread to go, because be planned to have it at home for dinner. The meal was prepared quickly and boxed up in individual styrofoam boxes. After reheating and plating the brisket and cornbread, which came in a commendable size, we cracked the box of coleslaw and were surprised to find less than a single serving. The slaw barely covered the bottom of the container, but since the real focus was the brisket, we gave it no second thought. I dug into the brisket, and my first impression was that I just put a salt lick into my mouth. The brisket was so heavily salted that it burned my taste buds, but not before I noticed a second taste — artificial smoke. It was my succinct impression that this brisket had never seen the inside of a smoker, which would also explain the lack of a smokey smell in the restaurant. The coleslaw was tasty and fresh, there just wasn’t a lot to enjoy. The cornbread was sweet and crumbly and very good, but it did not make up for the disappointment of the brisket, which was donated to the circular inhabitant of the cabinet under the sink. Hopefully, next time I crave barbecue, Brothers will be open.

This is a hole in the wall back street location. The owner helped us with our occasion as he was the only person working. The place is clean and pleasant. The important part is the meat. I sampled all the meat they offer. They have a sampler plate to give you that chance. The pork entries rib and pulled pork we very flavorful. The sauce is sweet but not too much. The beef rib and brisket both had a rich dark flavor as expected. The chicken was easy to pull from the bone. All the meats were very tender and the coon was perfect. All meat had good moisture. The overall was a very nice place to get barbecue.

1+3+5+5+3+1. As I sit down to share my review with the immense world of Unilocal… I find myself being drawn and quartered by my own thoughts. One minute I am thinking that this place rocks! The next minute I am thinking it’s on the rocks. Then I toss back and forth so I guess I will just give them an average of A-OK and share my little story and let you decide just where the review may lead you. My daughter and I had been given an opportunity to have a little daddy daughter time and as many of you know… if «daughter» and«food» meet in the same place… it’s usually not an adventurous experience of culinary delights. This time was no exception. We went in to Texas Soul and found nothing on the menu for her to eat. Nothing. Not because they don’t have the standards of childrens items, but she just has her things she eats and those things weren’t what she eats. So what is a good dad to do? I have no idea because I’m not a good dad. Instead I just said…“I’m here. I’m eating.” So when the owner/waiter/cook came to take our order… it was all for me, and nothing for my daughter. I think the guy felt bad, so he offered my daughter a piece of pie on him. Pretty cool! I would never expect this kind of offer when I go in, but it was such a nice gesture. I had ordered up the huge meat combo of most of what they offer. Sadly this is definitely not my style of BBQ. Sauce laden and super duper sweet. I’m more of a dry BBQ type of guy so my food didn’t hit any sort of happy point on my palate. I did order up a side of the house made potato salad. Man that saved my meal from being a total loss. The atmosphere is more«budget» than anything else. For now I think this wont be a place you go for atmosphere but for the BBQ if you like the style. So for me the food and the atmosphere would have left this at a solid two stars… but the service and the friendliness of the hardworking guy who helped us was 5 stars easy. So an average of three stars is totally justifiable.

Tried it today, I had a Dragonic Appetite, so I ordered brisket($ 11.95) that comes w/1 side for ToGo. The side choices are limited, but I was thinking coleslaw, asked the owner, and he said it was his best side, so that’s what I ordered. He saw the RNR in my hand, and asked me if I read the article. I mentioned I did and lived down the street, and LOVEBRISKET, so thought I would give it a go. As soon as I said that some guy said he was addicted to the brisket. The diners tonight were sparse, only a 1 couple besides the Addict. I thought this wasn’t a good sign, but I watch Bar Rescue, DDD, and the other Taffer show. I knew they did it a bit different in Texas, so I was still eager to try, and this place seems like it delivers on that style(I am not expert). The brisket had a crust to it, and was good, different for me. I didn’t like the sauce to much, but I did see on the ToGo menu they have hot sauce, so I would get that next time. Overall it was different, but didn’t wow me. I also didn’t find it filling there was a decent amount of thin sliced meat, but it wasn’t enough for my appetite. The coleslaw was good, different again, but looked really small, and wasn’t enough. There were two trays in the bins and both were about ½ full. I am not sure if they were almost out, but seemed sparse. Last I got an apple pie hookup, when I looked at it, I could have swore it looked like sweet potato, but it was apple. This was something different and unique. I probably enjoyed this the most, but I always find pie and such a bad value unless it’s a giant slice. Overall, it didn’t really meet my value equation. When spend $ 12 for a meal I expect to be satisfied with the quality and quantity of food, and I am still hungry right now, that was with a free slice of pie. If you read my reviews, you know I compare how many different places I can eat for that same money, so if it doesn’t wow me and make me addict like the aforementioned, I don’t see a fast return. I would probably need double the meat, hot sauce, and 2 sides that were generous helpings for me to quickly return for that price. I would recommend trying this place, as it nice to be able to try something you like that(Brisket, Apple Pie, Coleslaw) is different and unique. It’s definitely delivers on that. Last they have Carne Asada and a few other meats for tacos($ 1.25). I think 10 asada taco’s for me might have delivered better value, maybe I will try that next time.
