Food is good but not great, try the roasted duck it’s pretty good. The calamari appetizer was good, but it’s too expensive for the amount. The service was just okay, been here few times and seems like they all had a bad or busy day.

My elderly parents rave about this place and really wanted us to go here for dinner when we were up for a visit. When I saw that this was a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant, I was a little worried. Generally, when a restaurant tries to do more than one cuisine, they both end up sub par. That being said, while the vermicelli could’ve been better, the Chinese food was pretty good. The main reason for the 4 stars is the service. The waiters and the owner are outstanding. My dad is hard of hearing, and my mom has slowed down quite a bit. The waiters were exceptionally patient and kind, repeating questions and answers when my folks didn’t hear or understand. The owner always comes out to say hello and make sure that my folks are well treated, and the wait staff frequently checked if everything was fine. Kudos to the team here, and we’ll be back every time we come for a visit. Thank you for taking such good care of my parents!!!

This place had some good phở, what I really liked were the dumplings. The dumplings were thicker than what I’ve had but I really liked them, the flavor and stuffing inside was so tasty. We also ordered the egg rolls which were okay but nothing extraordinary. The service is what will get me there again. The servers were very friendly and attentive.

It was snowing, freezing, and the kids wanted phở but the husband and I wanted chinese. Enter Silver Chopsticks, a restaurant that serves both Chinese AND Phở cuisine! Well, we actually ended up NOT ordering Phở because SC is the Best Chinese restaurant in Reno! Great quick service, affordable prices, clean establishment, and food was served hot and arrived quickly! Their bathroom alone was immaculate. Not updated but it was so spotless you could probably eat off the floor if you wanted to although I advise against it, but cleanliness is clearly a good indicator, in my opinion. We ordered the family dinner combo because it seemed like the best deal, and we ordered some other items as well to supplement, because we love our soup, noodles and honey walnut shrimp wherever we go. We chose the family dinner and tried both the soup and salad. We ordered the mongolian beef which was delicious. The beef and onions were tender and I finished it all because there was just so much flavor and the correct level of spice without being too overpowering and without feeling too greasy. The sweet and sour shrimp was delicious. Freshly fried seasoned shrimp rings with a perfectly complementing sauce that was not overly sweet. The wonton soup was a bit weird though. The texture of the meat was so fine almost like a fish ball and I didnt know exactly what type of meat it was because it was not your typical pork wonton texture. Honey walnut shrimp entrée came with free steamed rice as stated on the menu. A lot of their entrees came with free steamed rice, and i am not talking about a rice plate or a small bowl. I am talking about a full order of steamed rice that arrives in the black plastic bowl with a lid. The honey walnut shrimp was freshly fried and coated with creamy sweet sauce. Walnuts were crunchy and sweet as well. House chow mein was delicious, not overloaded with vegetables like some place, and it did not have the overly greasy feel to it. Attentive service, our waters and tea’s were refilled frequently, all in all, was exceptionally pleased with the prices, quality, food, service, and would definitely be back here again…

I have been going to this restaurant for almost 2 years and my experience tonight alone has changed my opinion. I usually order a shrimp dish and the shrimp is always cooked very well. I am discouraged by the customer service that has been going downhill. Tonight Mike has succeeded in losing a customer for this business. If Mike has anything to do with the success of this restaurant they are definitely doomed. This could be a coaching experience and I will consider coming back once I understand Mike’s position. In the meantime he could learn how to be humble, how to deal with customer complaints appropriately and he could learn his menu.

I don’t like to blast negative things, but man… horrible service and food. The wontons in the wor wonton soup were dry and frozen, and the inside was still dry/frozen when the soup came out. The tangerine beef was dry/frozen tasting too, and the texture was more like rubbery beef jerky. I need to GTFO of this place and get over to 101 Taiwanese, the only legit Chinese restaurant I’ve tried in Reno. Ughh

This food was delicious as well as perfectly cooked. I had the beef phở and it was the best with jalapeños and cilantro mixed in the best part was they poured it right in front of you so you could see the thin meat getting boiled to perfection.

I hadn’t been since Phở 21 went out of this space and I had modest expectations(our favorite place was closed this evening, too). The décor of the place is still very pleasant, and no piles of junk on back tables as with the previous owners. Actually, of any of the Viet places I’ve been in town, this is probably the nicest-looking of the five or six I’ve visited. The server and manager/owner were also very friendly. Unfortunately, if the food in a Vietnamese places is mediocre, décor and service are ultimately less important. This was my experience. It may be just a strange coincidence, but the chicken broth in the phở has an uncanny resemblance to food-service-grade bulk chicken broth I remember getting at cafeterias as a kid. It was barely edible; a pale almost opaque yellow, sort of thick, very salty, and lacking any other seasoning that what you’d expect from a can of Swanson’s. I’ve been other places where one could get creative with a bland broth(e.g. adding hoisin, fish sauce, chili oil, etc.), but here I could only try to cut the salt and fat with the lime wedge and some basil. Other things ordered by my party were similarly iffy. The pork bun(over vermicelli and lettuce) was tasty(and large) enough, but again lacked much seasoning. The pork pieces were also too large and fatty. The egg roll on top was just blah. There was a fried rice fan in our party so we had the bbq pork rice, which was a good version of the standard American favorite. Unfortunately, it too was over salted(or soy-sauced). And, of course, there was no kids menu. Save yourself the disappointment and drive the 15 minutes down McCarran to SK Noodle in Sparks(except on a Wednesday). I’d place them overall at 2.5 stars, somewhere between okay and meh.

I often have a tough time trusting Asian food in Reno, but Silver Chopsticks was a pleasant surprise. I had their pork and egg roll on top of vermicelli and it was pretty good! I definitely will be going back and trying more dishes in the future. Compared to some of the Asian restaurants in more ethnic cities, Silver Chopsticks is nothing special. However, for Reno it was a nice find. The menu is well rounded with a lot of variety for Vietnamese and Chinese food options. The portion sizes are huge so plan to share or have some leftovers. The employees were kind and the service was pretty quick.

The phở here is amazing. That’s why I am giving it 4 stars. It’s close to my home and we come here every week. It’s always clean and nice inside. If you’re looking for friendly service then don’t come here. That’s why I don’t give them another star. But I come here for the food and it’s great!

I really enjoyed the original Phở place that was here, but the truth is I only continue returning out of convenience. The food is just okay now. The original place had an amazing broth and was almost exclusively a Phở restaurant. This changed hands, or names, or whatever a few years ago and branched out into a Chinese menu that also serves Phở. Since that time the menu has shrinked to nine Phở items; I would have loved to see a War Wonton soup but alas that was not the case. They also have a few traditional regular soup offerings one would expect at a similar place,(still not War Wonton). I had the seafood combination Phở, currently listing at the number 9 position on the Phở menu. The seafood was fresh and good, plentiful and abundant, I took no issues there, but the broth was just so ordinary. Mind you a few years ago, I probably would have never thought this could make such a big difference, but it does and did here; not a bad experience but ordinary. It was well presented but strangely enough even the timing there was off. Maybe, I’m off on this one but they served one of our meals(our sons) with the Phở accompaniments, which made it seem as though it were part of their meal. The remaining meals were brought out following this initial offering. An issue resolved easily enough but it was awkward with the timing and being placed on the other side of the table. The three stars is a reflection of the efforts of the staff, without such they would likely be a two. Though I hadn’t tasted them, the comments about the other dishes were less than stellar. When I commented on how ordinary mine was, I was offered similar observations about their own meals. I hope they will make some improvements, again the original place was great; I continue returning out of convenience, but without something better to offer, convenience will not be enough to justify the visit.

We came here for my son’s birthday. I ordered the rare beef and well done flank steak phở. Very generous portion, as phở generally is. Veggies were fresh. It was pretty good, I have no particular complaints about the broth, but I have had better(I miss Saigon 88 in Sparks! That was THE best.) It was nice that they had a large menu, with opinionated kids. One son had the chicken noodle phở, he liked it, and there were several other vegetables in the soup like broccoli. It must have been seasoned well because he ate it without a single complaint. The other son had lemon chicken. There was no kid’s menu or smaller portion, so it was quite huge for a kid, at least it reheats well. Overall the whole meal was reasonably priced and everyone was happy, we will be back.

Silver Chopsticks can be a hit or miss among me and my friends, but I still manage to personally enjoy their food. The key might be to find certain dishes that perform the best and make your tastebuds happy. One of my favorite dishes to get by far is their chow mein pan fried style. It costs a dollar extra to get it pan fried style, but the serving is rather generous for a meal under $ 10 and the crunchy texture along with the sauce doesn’t disappoint — kinda reminds me of how some of the other asian restaraunts in Las Vegas and SoCal make it! My friend also got the egg foo young once and we both enjoyed that, worth a try. However, I had a curry-based dish once and I was not pleased with the texture at all. Some of the meat dishes as well(like the Sesame Chicken) can be extremely hit/miss — I had a friend who loves it and swears by it everytime he comes here, but my tastebuds have had better. This place may not be open as late as Golden Flower, but their service is better. Some of their dishes are a little weaker, while others have consistently been my favorites. Give it a try!

We found Silver Chopsticks on accident, and what a great find!!! The food is delicious, and you will not leave hungry. Prices are also very reasonable. I always order the phở, specifically #1 — Combination beef noodle soup. Their broth is on point, and you get to add your fresh veggies, lime, chili paste, hoisin, jalapenos, or whatever you like to get it to your preference. The spring rolls are delicious as well(accompanied with a very tasty peanut sauce). If you like pork sandos, you must try theirs, full of flavor; we usually order 2 to-go, while we are enjoying our phở, so we can have them for dinner later. Sometimes, we won’t even eat in the restaurant, but will just swing by to grab a couple sandwiches before we head home to Truckee. Staff is friendly, and restaurant is clean. Enjoy!

Stormy days bring to mind a variety of comfort foods. Personally, I lean toward savory, broth-based soups as bolster against inclement weather. Thus on a rainy afternoon did I, my wife, and a friend find ourselves in the strip mall gem that is Silver Chopsticks. For starters I ordered Gi Cun(two Vietnamese spring rolls cut in half, $ 4.95) and Salt and Pepper Calamari($ 7.25). The rolls were served with room temperature peanut sauce spiked with chopped peanut and julienned carrot. The overall flavors of vegetable, noodle, herb and shrimp were present but the pork was a bit dry. Not terrible, but could definitely use improvement. I’ve eaten my share of fried squid, but this presentation was new to me. Lightly fried in tempura, the squid appeared to be mantle cuts similar to those used for«calamari fries», yet with nubby bits that reminded me of tentacles. Having previously enjoyed suckered appendages I’m fairly certain these weren’t squid legs, but I think they were clipped to evoke this notion. Interesting. Served on a bed of shredded cabbage and sliced scallion they were a little chewy, yet pretty tasty despite lacking much«salt and pepper» flavor. A light sweet and sour sauce – provided for our friend’s egg roll – was delivered just before the starters, so we used it on the seafood to good effect. My buddy and my wife each ordered from the menu of Chinese lunch specials, Curry Chicken with Egg Roll and Steamed Rice being his choice($ 6.95). The egg roll was gone before I could beg a nibble, but he reported, «It was an egg roll.» I think I enjoyed the flavor of the curry sauce more than he, finding it to be fairly creamy with just enough spice and possessing more of a Thai than Chinese character. He said, «Eh, It’s ok.» Alrighty then. In contrast, my wife declared her Beef Broccoli to be, «the best I’ve ever had.» It’s entirely possible, being the broccoli was perfectly stir-fried(al dente) with tender, well-seasoned meat. Nothing at all like the spongy, low-rent beef one often receives in this dish. Her choice of Pork Fried Rice was only notable for not being overcooked or greasy; not a star item but just fine as support for the entrée. Hot and Sour Soup rounded out her lunch special($ 7.25). We agreed the soup was pretty good, though it could have used a bit more vinegar tang. As noted, I was in search of a big bowl of soup to counter the storm. I goofed by ordering Ph Tái Nan(vermicelli noodle soup with rare steak and well done flank, $ 6.95) rather than my usual Ph Dc Bit(same thing, but with the addition of tendon, tripe, and meatball). Some may say, «Ewww,» but I really missed the tendon and tripe. The soup was served at the perfect temperature(just below scalding) with the usual plate of fresh Thai basil, jalapeño slices, bean sprouts and wedge of lime. The word«Ph» refers to the noodles, but this style of soup is best judged by the flavors of its broth. Some possess a strong, single flavor(too much ginger, onion, etc.), while others are so weak they’re akin to leftover vegetable rinse. The best Ph broths combine an involved preparation of herbs, spices, vegetables and meat stock simmered for hours, then combined with noodles, meats and other ingredients for each individual order of soup. This particular broth was more delicate than some but had a very satisfying finish. I added items from the side plate to complement the broth and otherwise left it alone; no sauces necessary. It was delicious and exactly what I was after. Mission accomplished.

Quite good, good enough to skip my usual, Goden Flower Restaurant. They have great phở and great Chinese options, so if your date prefers something different than the usual Vietnamese menu, it’s no problem. My take-out order was ready sooner than expected. I’d just mention to the owner that the wood area at the door is not so appealing. Maybe if it was winter and they needed it to block cold weather … But this is early September! Wait staff is very courteous. In the Save Mart shopping center next to the Flowing Tide pub.
