Brutal. I write this as I stand in the third fairway. Nearly an hour into our round. Pace of play is terrible. No oversight on the course. Two groups ahead of us waiting on the tee at the par 3 fourth hole. Not fun.

Sierra Sage is a great course for the area! I live right beside it and go normally each Friday… The course is kept in a lot better condition than it used to be! Never had any issues booking tee times and for the price it can’t be beat! Doesn’t compare to Arrow Creek or Lake Ridge but unless you want to pay around $ 30 – 40 more then no complaints!

Sierra Sage is a great bargain in the Reno area. It is an older desert links style course with lots of elevations changes with corresponding great views of the desert. You need to play it a couple of times in order to know where to hit your tee shots. The greens are slow, but help those run up shots that you have to hit on links style courses. The conditions are not pristine, but for the price it is a great bargain. It can be windy, but this also is part of the links experience. I have played the course over 30 times over the past 20 years and have never been disappointed.

Just played this course today and it’s in rough shape. The grass is patchy and many of the greens are unrecognizable. The upshot is, it’s an affordable full-size course that you can walk. Normally they would be charging summer rates, but perhaps because of the condition of the course, we were charged their winter rates. $ 17 for 18 holes of golf and a pull cart. The course has strips of desert separating the holes(similar to the wetland areas at Rosewood), but it’s still fairly forgiving. I’m a terrible golfer and I managed to lose only 3 or 4 balls all day. The course has a pretty good variety in hole lengths and difficulty levels as well, meaning you aren’t stuck hitting your short irons all day. Some of par 4s seemed exceptionally long, meaning you have to hit two great approach shots to have a chance at par. Hopefully they’re able to get some water on the course and it’ll bounce back in a few weeks. Unfortunately, I think the weather(or lack thereof) this winter has created some serious difficulties for golf courses trying to get into summer condition.
