I’ve been searching for a great new Sushi place after some of the other, more popular Sushi places started losing quality. This place is my new favorite. The place was quiet, enjoyable, and clean. The wait staff was attentive but not bothersome. Great balance! And their Sushi was to die for! My favorites were the Lemondrop and Ultimate Salmon. The problem I have with other places is either quality or the sushi tastes bland. The sushi was flavorful and not too powerful! The balance was amazing. I will never go anywhere else.

In addition to the exemplary food(which is by far the best sushi I’ve tried) the atmosphere at Sakana is truly unrivaled. Each and every time I eat there, I am met with excellent and friendly service and a fun, upbeat ambiance. With the food served fresh and expertly prepared and

This is my second time here, I’ve been here on a date night and business dinner and both times the sushi has been consistently very good. The atmosphere is chill and the service is really good. All of the ingredients in the sushi taste really fresh and put together well. One thing though is the first time we went my bf ordered the Philly cheese steak sushi roll and they said they were out. So the second time we visited he ordered it again and once again they were out. It’s not a big deal but if they don’t have it anymore maybe they should just take it off the menu. Again, it’s not really a big deal, overall the sushi is delicious and we will be going again.

Absolutely incredible sushi! So fresh and delicious. This location has a better beer selection than the one in North Towne(by WinCo) and they offer ramen, other than that the menus, rolls, prices, and service are all the same. So much the same, the girl that was our server on Monday the 4th at NorthTowne was at Somersett on Saturday. My husband doesn’t usually eat rolls only nigiri. These rolls are so good and not drenched in mayo, he’s a convert. Also, save room for a couple of the appetizers. The monkey, beach, and dragon balls are delicious! The have a fried baby calamari appetizer that is incredible! On to sushi… my new favorite is the Kanapai. Topped with a thin slice of jalapeño, sriracha, fresh fish and filled with a second fish and thin slice of lemon. We ate three of these rolls alone! Other favorites were the pacific, samurai, and shark bait. On a closing note, the rice to fish ratio in the nigiri was excellent. Large, fresh fish pieces atop a small amount of sticky rice. I haven’t craved sushi like this in years, this place is awesome!

Really disappointed recently. Seems the owner got too busy with a new restaurant and«out with the old and in with the new»…the rolls have become sub par without any charm. Service rushed and careless. We didn’t even see our favorite guys working the sushi bar there the last 3x, maybe they left to the new location. We used to be so excited to come out here and came at least weekly even tho it was out of town… now we are lost in Reno for good sushi again. Used to tell all the docs at work about this place… What happened Sakana!

They are still working out some kinks, obviously, but the food was amazing and everyone was very friendly! It got pretty busy halfway thru our meal, which slowed down the flow of sushi into my face… probably a good thing. We will definitely be going back again. J. B. was extremely friendly and made good sushi

To preface this, I am a very picky when it comes to my sushi. So I heard about this place from some friends saying it was the best in Reno and it had good reviews… So I had to try it for my self. All in all, it was decent. Nothing spectacular stood out to me. But with that being said the fish was fresh, rice was good. Everything tasted good. Though, The chefs special was very unimpressive. The roll sizes/cuts were much smaller than I’m used to, though nothing wrong with that but just felt like I was ordering a lot more than normal to satisfy my sushi craving. I’m still going to say that kokopellis and hiroba beat this place. Just my own opinion, even there I’ve had off days with different chefs. Still the top notch chef I would always go to is named Kevin at sushi pier2. Wherever he’s working is where I go… as long as he’s the chef, it’s the best! The service here was decent as well. Only 3 tables there and the server struggled to keep up but did her best with a a smile on her face. Great selection & great tasting homemade ice cream for dessert… if that’s your thing.

Given the buzz that has been about this location recently, I expected to be more impressed than I was. I drove out here with a friend who was eager to try this place out too. I expected there to be more of a crowd than there was, but we were seated promptly. We gave our drink orders, but over the course of the evening, had to ask two different servers for them before they eventually came out to us. Service with our assigned chef was slow and bumpy at first, but improved over the evening. Some of the rolls we shared were the Philly Cheese Steak(which was as gross at it sounds), Somersett, and Outback(my personal favorite of the evening). I thought that the décor was trying a little too hard to be trendy, and I wish that the service was more attentive.

This place is incredible! Best service I have had at a sushi place! We had a group of 20 tonight and they kept the place open an extra hour! I thank every single one of the workers tonight!!! Everything tasted delicious!!! My cup never ran out of water! Thank you so much for a great experience! Sushi is out of this world! Some rolls come with sake shots! We love the beach balls! Yummy appetizers! Everything is fresh. We ordered and minutes late we had our food. Service was incredibly fast!!! I tried this place a week ago! I brough back 19 other people to have a great first time experience like I had!!! I will come back over and over to this amazing business!

I’d honestly never heard of this restaurant until recently because, who goes to Somerset? Amiright?! But when my fellow Unilocalers heard of my Great Sushi Search, the recommendation that I got most often was to try Sakana. So, I packed Family into the truck and headed into the hills. After going in circles for a while(quite literally… it’s easy to get lost in Somerset’s maze of roundabouts on a dark and rainy night!), we finally found Sakana only to realize we’d parked in the back of the restaurant, and Holy Hell, where IS this place?! But finally we made it in the front door, slightly damp, and were greeted by many enthusiastic and friendly employees. Their warm attitude, along with some hot tea and miso, soon had us feeling happy and relaxed. The first thing we noticed were all of the interesting and unusual items on the menu! Although there were a lot of the traditional rolls we are used to seeing in Reno, there were also many that looked creative and appealing! Husband was happy to see the number of choices that didn’t include avocado… it’s not that he doesn’t like avocado, he just doesn’t understand the need to put it in EVERY roll. We skipped over our usual nigiri orders to start with a few of the long rolls that popped out at us. The Sakana Roll was delightful, but my real favorite was the Samurai! Another great choice was the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and although I was not a huge fan of the Wipe Out, Husband did enjoy it. We did eventually switch to nigiri, and my two favorites, hamachi and tai, were both excellent, made from beautiful cuts of fish. One thing that really struck me about all of the sushi we tried was the real distinction between each order. In flavor and in size each roll was very different, really challenging our palate with each dish. Eventually I started in on the extensive appetizer menu. There were lots of cool choices on there, and it was all included in the price! I was thrilled with the takoyaki… so flavorful! The mussels were also very tasty, with some sort of slightly BBQ-esque finish that I couldn’t quite identify. Because I was sitting right next to the server station, I got to see a lot of other dishes come out, too, and they all looked wonderful. And of course then there’s the ice cream. I don’t usually think of ice cream as a particularly Japanese dish, but when it’s homemade and included in the price, you can bet I’m excited about that! And it was worth being excited over. I had banana, Husband tried apple streusel, and Kid went with cinnamon. All were amazing, with fresh, bold flavors and perfect texture. We were really pleased to spend the first dark, wintry night of the season in this excellent sushi bar. Between the bright smiles of the servers and chefs, the excellent and inventive sushi, the selection of wonderful appetizers, and the super-fun ice cream finish, we felt good about spending more money here than at most sushi places in town. The price here is steep – $ 24.99 for dinner – but with ALL of the menu items included, it is actually pretty reasonable! I should also mention that not only does the kids’ menu go up to 11 years old, they have a special«little kids» price of only $ 6.99! That is a nice touch, which was really what struck me about Sakana… lots of nice little touches that together make for an overall wonderful experience.

We came in about an hour before closing and loved everything we had! We had the monkey ball(s) which were a delicious little treat and the Sierra mountain roll is my all time favorite!!! I can’t wait to come here again and participate in all you can eat!

The grilled mountain roll is by far my favorite long roll that I have ever eaten. Though this restaurant is far from town, it is worth the drive. The atmosphere is clean and modern with touches of Asia. The service is quick even when there are a lot of people. If you are looking for great sushi, this might be the place for you.

Great little place to enjoy the evening and great food in Somersett in the north west of Reno. We live close by so it is convenient for us to walk over for dinner, but it is worth the drive if you do not live in the north west. One of the things I like most about this restaurant is they sincerely care if you have a good experience when you eat there. Not sure if it is the owner or manager but he is always there and he always makes sure to check in on you and he corrects any issues if there is a problem. We eat here often and I try to at least go a few times before I review any business. I can say every time we go, the food is always served quickly, fresh, and flavorful. Our server was new when we stopped in the other night, so there were a few minor delays, mistakes but hey we were all once new at our professions, so it was no big deal. I love the décor at Sakana to me it is very contemporary and open which I love in a restaurant. You have the option to sit at their lovely sushi bar or tables inside and out. We went for the bento box as we are not huge sushi eaters. However they have an all you can eat sushi that is very popular and if you tell them what you like, they will make you custom orders. The bento box is one of my all time favorites from any sushi restaurant. The chicken(you have your choice between fish and chicken) is always fresh and delicious! Love the small sushi roll, rice, salad, and chef’s choice batter fried vegetables it is served with! It is an incredible price value. For an appetizer, we recommend the Monkey Balls. They are not on the menu but if you ask for them they will make them for you and you will not be sorry. Deep fried goodness of mushrooms, seafood blend and a tangy sauce. As a side note they have home made ice cream in several flavors that will melt on your tongue. They also have a decent wine menu.
