Such a fun and yummy treat! Plenty of chocolate and deliciously covered apples! They cut the apple for you so it’s easier to eat. They also have sweet customer service ;)

Me: «Babe, I’m craving something sweet.» Babe: «Like Ice cream?» «No…like caramel apples! We should go to V. C!!» I’m reminded it’s late and the stores in Virginia City will probably be closed… Darn, he’s right! «Where should we go then?» «How about that chocolate store up on the hill?» We called Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory before leaving the house and asked when they closed and were excited to find that they were still open and we still had time to get up there! The store was very very simple for us to find but maybe that’s because we have eaten at the neighboring Wing Stop enough times to have driven by the chocolate store multiple times in our ventures. Walking into the store smelled like absolute heaven, and I wanted to buy everything! The first thing I noticed, strategically placed by the front door, was a huge display case of candy and caramel apples… and then I saw other staples like fudge and truffles too. The prices were to be expected with any good chocolate store. Good, homemade chocolates and sweets aren’t going to be in the dollar range, you just can’t find that anywhere and it was nice to see a peanut and caramel apple priced around 6 $ that were big and juicy looking too! I lived in Truckee CA for a while and there was a chocolate store up there that was WAY more pricey than this store. I give four stars only because I do still personally like the caramel at a long standing store in VC more, but these apples are really great when a trip up there just isn’t feasible. The young gal who got our apples offered to cut them for us which I’m glad she asked first because I really do enjoy mine uncut and she was very polite. All in all I will say this store is great and I will be a returning customer!

Awesome couple who own this store, the treats are a TREAT and everyone should go there and at least try it once. Their apples are to die for, especially the apple pie.

Mmmmmmmmm chocolate! While attempting to kill time while my better half got her hair cut I stumbled in here for some sweet treats. I’m always in the mood for a sweet treat, and I do mean ALWAYS! For once, I put my wife first and pick out the perfect caramel apple covered in peanuts before even deciding what I want. Aren’t I a good wife? It helps that she is so easy to please and so simple in her requests– no chocolate of any kind. She loves the fact that they will cut the apples for you so you don’t have to chew on them caveman style like you would with a turkey leg! For me, its always all about the chocolate. I decided on some truffles. This is where my mind becomes hazy because I basically went into a comatose state while pointing out the ones I wanted. They have all been delicious and if I remember correctly I got the semisweet, kahlua, orange, champagne, milk chocolate, and a double chocolate. I also got a chocolate dipped marshmallow. The employee was helpful, polite, and happy! I mean that’s almost mandatory in a place as sweet as this. We chatted while she boxed everything up. The customer service was fantastic. The prices are pretty close to what you would pay elsewhere if not a little lower. They have a wide variety of caramel apples, truffles, sweet confections, sugar free truffles, fudge, and preboxed sweets. Whenever I find myself over here I always stop in for a little something. It’s always well worth it!

I went here tonight with my Little from Big Brothers Big Sisters because we wanted to make a Halloween craft and eat a Carmel Apple. I chose this place because I’ve eaten their apples at fairs like the rib cook off and I’ve always enjoyed them. The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because of their awful map location«pins» on Unilocal and Google. I had no idea where I was going so I REALLY needed map apps to tell me. I tried THREE different apps to get me there and I finally had to call to determine where they were. I know it’s a smallish center but if you have no idea where you’re going you cannot rely on the apps to get you to this place.(It puts you by the McDonalds and then says«you have arrived»)I’m not sure if it’s their address wrong or if the three apps I used but if someone reading this handles it please fix it! We loved our Carmel Apple and enjoyed the setting– we were able to hang out there for an hour or so and the employee made us feel very welcome. It is a little pricy but worth it.

I would usually give the business a «5 star» rating but tonight we drove all the way across town only to find out they closed early(8:00 pm). It said on their web site close at 9:00.

Employees are kind of rude and distracted. You work in a chocolate shop… you should be happy. Chocolate covered apples are wayyyy over priced but still delicious. I think they should have samples. Its a candy shop. Yes… samples are a good idea.

The Apple Pie apples are the end of it all for me. Love these things. I’ve tried a few other apple selections and some are quite good too but it starts and stops with the Apple Pie apples. There you will will also find chocolates and other candy treats and they’ve all been quite good too if not a bit spendy(at least for the apples). I used to have to go to South Lake Tahoe to get these things before they opened up the Reno store. A trip I made more often than I care to admit for some candy apples.

i was having a bad day and decided to stop in after I went to wing Stop and I saw their candied apples… yes the place is pricy but almost everything right now is inflated. This place has great candy and it is definitely a treat. I will be back :)

Not a review if you have weak stomach. My wife and I love RMCF, but we were appalled to find two worms/leaches in a chocolate/nut treat. One was still alive! Thank goodness we waited unit we got home to eat the treats instead of the car where it was dark. The worst part is that we are still waiting for the manager to contact us for a refund on our money. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere!

It’s kind of expensive but there’s a great selection of chocolate treats! They do also offer sugar free options which can be hard to find for our diabetic friends. The interior is small only a couple of chairs, but I think most people order to-go or come in for gifts anyhow. I love their chocolate dipped frozen cheesescake on a stick. I remember other locations making it fresh and you got your choice of nuts or not nuts in the past, but they have these pre-made in a freezer ready to go. Takes away a little bit of the charm, but their still delicious.

I was driving around the Safeway/Kohl’s strip mall to investigate the businesses there when I spotted the RMCF. It was 8:45 pm and they were still open, and I was craving something sweet. I went inside and was greeted by fancy caramel apples for $ 5-$ 7 each. «Uh-huh, it’s one of those fancy schmancy chocolate places,» I thought. The bins were beautifully stocked with truffles($ 2.25EACH), and other things. I asked the only employee there, a woman who was sweeping the floor, «How much per pound?» Try about $ 19!!! Holy Crap! I was ready to leave without buying anything when I spotted the fudge. I asked the price and it was only $ 13 a pound. Compared to the other items here, that seemed like a steal. «Do you make everything here?» I asked. «Weeeell, we make about 60% of everything here,» she answered as her broom went whoosh whoosh whoosh. «Is the fudge one of them?» «Yes(whoosh whoosh whoosh!)» I love fudge and They had three kinds. «What flavors?» «Amaretto, apple pie, and chocolate.» «May I taste the Amaretto and apple pie please?» She looked a little peeved as she donned rubber gloves and grabbed the tiniest spoon you’ve ever seen — one just right for a barbie doll! The Amaretto and apple pie tasted phony to me, but then, many things that are«flavored» do. «I’ll take 3 oz of chocolate!» $ 4 later, I’m in my car drooling. I take two bites and am completely grossed out. 1. The fudge is far too wet 2. It’s much sweeter than homemade fudge 3. It isn’t chocolaty enough and that’s funny for a place with the words«chocolate factory» in its name. I pitched it out the car window and crossed yet another high-priced candy place off my list(I’ll be writing my review on another one soon). I can not begin to imagine that enough people patronize this place for them to make it. If a chocolate shop can’t make great fudge — so simple to make — I don’t see how it can make any chocolate candy well. Tip: if you’re a fudge lover like me, and don’t feel like making it yourself, The fudge in Raley’s bakery costs $ 7.50 or $ 8 per pound and actually tastes like fudge.
