VERYVERYDISAPPOINTED at JOSEF’s BAKERY!!! I go there to get some pastries as gifts and I always know they have great baked goods!!! Yesterday I went there in the afternoon to see what I can get and as I walked in I noticed their glass fridges are dark and have nothing in them and I asked why? The young lady said they were cleaning them… I said I will be back in the morning to get fresh baked goods… This morning I go there… The glass fridges are still dark and still have no fresh baked goods!!! I asked why again and another young lady said the fridges are broken!!! I asked if they have ANY pastries that I can get??? I told what I like to get(6 different type of pastries), I named off 4 and plus surprise me with two more. When I got the box all I see is 4 types of pastries! I guess she didn’t hear what I said!!! She wanted to add some cookies and I specifically wanted pastries! What the hell!!! I love their baked goods and delicious and pretty pastries for many years they make but looks like they don’t give crap about their business anymore! Looks like another great business at one time going to hell!!! too bad!!! Taking my business somewhere else now!!!

I have enjoyed every breakfast item that I have ever had here. I love that you get a cookie or dessert item with every entrée. I’ve never had to wait too long even when they are busy and I always get a bakery product to go when I leave

Best schnitzel in town. Also has amazing breakfast service and incredible cakes. Service is always friendly, efficient and helpful. Go here for breakfast on a regular basis and am never disappointed. Their food and service is always consistent and of high quality, no bakery in town can compete.

We had brunch there recently. After waiting to get menus and asked about drinks, we were finally served our waters in plastic tumblers reminiscent of the Gold and Silver Inn on 4th St. After placing our orders, we waited about 15 minutes to receive our respective eggs benedict. The eggs were(over) cooked in a poacher and there was just a smattering of hollandaise. Cutting the oddly textured«english muffins» prompted the uneven table to rock back and forth. This place used to be great. A good friend’s daughter had her wedding cake made by Josef’s but that was 26 years ago! If/when a dining companion suggests Josef’s in the future, I’m going to try to dissuade them and look for something else.

Beautiful little shop! I’m so happy we have a place in Reno to purchase gorgeous little homemade cakes, pastries, and even macarons! Absolutely delicious. I had a cup of coffee and Nutella crepes– amazing. Will definitely go back and tell everyone I know. Hidden gem!

I have been in the reno area since 1996, and I have never been to Josefs Vienna bakery and café. In fact I had no idea there was a café, I thought it was just a bakery. Well it is so much more than just a bakery, they do have a huge selection of pastries, but they have a sit down café area where you can order breakfast or lunch. When I entered the café I was amazed at how clean and welcoming it is. It is just not another diner. They go the extra mile to make your dining experience memorable. Fresh flowers adorn the table, soft smooth jazz music plays over the speaker, and your coffee is served on a saucer with a decorative paper to catch any spills. My first sip of coffee was greeted with, «The girl from Ipanema», on the speaker. If that does not send you daydreaming for a warmer climate, I do not know what will. I ordered my favorite, eggs Benedict. It comes with a homemade scone, and grilled potatoes. The Benedict was awesome, it comes on a homemade English muffin, a poached egg, homemade hollandaise sauce with a pinch of paprika sprinkled on top. Sandwiched in the middle is a slice of black forest ham. The flavor was so incredible. It easily was one of the best breakfasts I have had in reno. Not only is the food a five star but the atmosphere is a five star. I will most definitely be coming back.

I stood at the counter for 20 minutes waiting for service then I had to just leave. There was only one person working the counter and 10 people standing in line. 5 people walked out and left. Maybe hire some extra help.

Finally made it to Josef’s today. I’ve read mostly great things about it, including hubby, so excited to check it out. Today, especially, after logging in a short and crisp hike with the Truckee Meadows Trail Challenge group. I really like the space. It’s homey, it’s pretty(I’m all about the pretty), and smelled wonderfully of pastries and cakes and other yummy things. We went for brunch, and I was pleased to find that it’s not super packed, and that we could seat ourselves. Service was friendly and fast, a GREAT combo when one is starving and ready to eat the table. I ordered the breakfast scramble crêpe, and hubby had the chorizo omelette. I love crêpe, but I especially love this one. So delicate but tasty. The egg scramble with bacon was also delicious and filling. It was topped with a light hollandaise sauce that brought all the flavors together. It made me happy. My order came with 2 crepes and a small muffin. It was more than plenty. I took the other crêpe home, and I’ll be happy to have it again tomorrow. Hubby’s chorizo looked good, but I didn’t get to try it. One thing with him, if I don’t ask for a bite early on, I might as well forget about it. But when I asked him how it was, he said it was good! So, I’ll leave it at that. I also had a cup of cappuccino. They advertised it as the best in town. I don’t know if it actually is, but it was pretty good. The foam had a subtle sweetness to it. The coffee was strong(bold?), just the way I like it. Of course, a visit to Josef’s would not be complete without sampling the baked goods and pastries. I’m a fiend for carrot cake, so I took home a slice with me. I will have to make a separate review on those. Overall, I would highly recommend!

Stopped in on a quest for macaroons. You are greater with the enticing smell of fresh baked pastries. Oh my! In addition to a large selection of fresh baked goods they had a very nice selection of macaroons flavors. They had fruit flavors along with the more sweet desserty flavors. Score! We took 12 home, 2 of each salted caramel, chocolate, mocha, hazelnut, vanilla and pistachio. Additionally we couldn’t resist taking a fruit tart home as well. The macaroons were AWESOME! My favorite flavor was the mocha. They were just crispy enough on the outside but soft and airy when you bit into them. It was so hard to stop eating them. I will be coming back here for sure for more macaroons!

YUMMY has a name and it is Josef’s. I had a school event that I promised cookies for and did not realize until the morning of that my baking pans were buried in moving boxes. I had a mini panic because I did not want to show up at the school with sub-par cookies so I called Josef’s. I had no idea that this bakery café was even here and now I am going to become a regular. When you walk in the smells alone make you want to start eating. Cookies, pastries, lemon bars… I could go on and on! The cookies were a huge hit, can’t wait to come back and try the café!

I thought I would give it one more try, the good old days have gone. It went for the cake my sister likes for her birthday. Ordered and picked up, cut and served, dry, dry, dry and the deep rich flavor of yore is no longer evident. I also picked up a few Danish, served and two bites were all anyone took, they too were very dry and oddly textured. I honestly do not know what happened to this place but it simply does not have the product it once had.

We came in last minute for a custom birthday cake for our daughters first birthday. The staff was really fantastic. They were helpful and trying to get everything we wanted for the cake. We came back the next day when the baker was there to explain what we wanted. She so very professional and told us she was able to make the cake just how we wanted. She also was able to have it next day for us. The cake was a big hit and everyone loved it!!! I would definitely recommend this bakery to anyone buying a cake or other sweet treats cause everything looked so good there.

This is the first time that I’ve been here. Why? Well, they open kind of late in the morning for a café. They should open around 6, or 7; instead of 8 am. The food is good and not too pricey. The chai latte, crepes, and scrambles are delicious. I also like the location, which is convenient. The staff are friendly and attentive. I’d like to come back and try some of their bakery items.

Ever have a place that just can’t seem to impress? Josef’s is that place for me. The chai was ok. My Mediterranean Salad was ok. The bone hard chairs were ok. The service was ok. The wait length was ok. The atmosphere in general was ok. The cookie was«ok» according to my daughter. The prices were ok. Everything was just ok. I know I probably just caught them on an ok day. But man it seems like the last time we went in there it was just ok. So here they get three stars. No complaints, no «wows», just the perfect example of what A-OK means. Sadly I didn’t order the scrambled eggs because my daughter did and those were pretty darn good.
